I'll start.
I've told no one this but my partner. I'm 24 and think Snt Nicholas/santa is real. Why? Because I distinctly remember hearing him. I was at my family members house and it was Christmas eve. I don't know why but my eyes shot open and it must of been around 2am. I could hear the soft chime of bells and it got louder and louder until it was audibly clear what it was. Then I heard a bang on the roof and I kid you not hooves! Loads of hooves and bells. The odd thing was that I wasn't excited as you would expect to be seeing Santa. I suddenly became paralyzed with this weird sense of fear.

I remember hiding in my bed and pulling the blanket over my eyes. I thought if I pretended to sleep he would go away. I then heard heavy sounds of footsteps around the house and a man's voice grunting. After what seemed like forever the noises of the man stopped and the hooves took off. After I was sure the coast was clear I ran to my bedroom window to see if I could catch a glimpse but I saw nothing. That morning I didn't tell anyone but simply asked all my male family members if anyone had gotten up over night. They hadn't (all are quite elderly). I know what I experienced. My partner thinks it was a delusion or one of those realistic dreams. But the experience was so vivid and unusual that I know it was real. No one would believe me so I don't bother saying it!

Okay your turn

  1. I was cyber blackmailed by Russians at my previous company. It sounds very Spooks like to anyone hearing it, and obviously the whole thing was treated with the utmost confidentiality. Watching shows about cyber attacks, even my husband is surprised about how much I know about the process and management of the situation, and I have to remind him that I actually went through it.

  2. More woo. I had an incredibly realistic dream about a man pleading for his life before being beheaded. Woke up, and came down to the news about the murder of Kenneth Bigley. Disturbingly accurate in details. I don't care about the rational explanations - I understand them all, but the key thing to understand is that nothing can take away the existential horror of feeling that you have witnessed a despicable murder in your sleep.

pinkpotatoez · 25/10/2022 11:50

I vividly remember hearing bells on Christmas night and thinking it was Santa. But I know I conjured it up in my head because of excitement as a child - surely you know this too?

I was once late for work because I got stuck behind a pigeon flying at windscreen height down a windy lane. Couldn't overtake it due to bends in the road so just had to follow at pigeon speed until it finally decided to fly over the hedge. Was about 4-5 minutes at 10 mph and I was already in a rush. Didn't beep my horn because I hate things making me jump and I didn't want to scare it.

Sneery and poor spelling.

You win on sneery with this I’m afraid.

What poor spelling?

If anyone said that to me in rl I would be seriously worried about their mental health

Would you? I'd laugh and ask a few more questions to get some details and then use that to determine what kind of person I was dealing with. I wouldn't be seriously worried about the mental health because of one lighthearted tale. You sound like a bit of a misery tbh.

Agreed! No need for the indignation

I have a friend who genuinely believes in angels. I have never thought to ask if she was delusional!

faunaandfun · 25/10/2022 12:05

fun!

Karmagoat · 25/10/2022 12:19

My first thought was Krampus too @Wishuponastar5 especially as he didn't leave any presents the tight fucker 😁
Ok mine. A few months before 9/11 happened i kept having horrible reoccurring dreams of planes crashing into buildings (i was going through a shitty time in my life and was mentally not in a good place so put the dreams down to that and the fact I was on anti depressants).
Anyway I only told one other person about these dreams I was having at the time, so when 9/11 happened she was like wtf?! Thats what you've been dreaming about!
I still don't know if it was some sort of premonition or what but it was weird.
Haven't ever told anyone else about it in real life except that one friend who knew beforehand, we were both a bit creeped out by it tbh.

When I was about 6 or 7 I saw a woman / female child being bundled into the boot of a car by a man, he then got in and drove off. I was in the back of a car being driven by my auntie (my mum was in the front seat) at the time. It was winter I guess because I remember it as early evening, dark. I know the city we were in but not where. I got really excited and told my mum and auntie and they. would. NOT. believe me. We were on our way home back from somewhere and they were in a rush I remmeber that. I was basically told to stop making it up.

brought it up a few times with my mum over the next few years.

I'm now only about 80% sure I saw it. I mean, I definitely saw a man stuffing what I thought was a female person into his boot. I remember seeing her wellington booted feet kicking, and she was wearing a dark coloured thick jacket with a hood. But it could have been a dummy I guess. My mum suggested it was a Christmas tree as she remembers the incident taking place just before Christmas, I was very upset and excited about it apparently.

I don't know. I still feel sure in myself I saw what I saw, but I'm also willing to believe that at age 7 I was wrong or misinterpreted what I saw.

Oh, and one time I was swimming in Lake Washington and a seal swam next to me! Playing like a puppy. No one believed me afterwards!

as an outdoor swimmer I believe you. I've not swam with seals just swans and kingfishers but been told similar first hand many times

Tube driver let me and my friend have a go at driving a tube train when were about 11 years' old.

HuzzahIndeed · 25/10/2022 13:07

My uncle had a pet goat for a while. He used his outdoor toilet as a sort of stable.
We talked about keeping the bread wrappers away from it because it would eat them.
My uncle died many, many years ago but no one believes me. But I am certain it is true.

I once saw a bichon frisé dog walk a good ten yards on its front legs in the Jardins de Tuileries.

My Maltese can do this! Not quite 10 yards, but 2 or 3 metres easy!

Bartholin cyst disappeared after 'taking the waters' as in sitting in a stone trough. in Lourdes.
Now I'm a fairly good Catholic but somewhat sceptical of miracles. In 1996 whilst waiting for removal of said cyst, I was on a previously arranged pilgrimage to Lourdes when this occurred. I couldn't tell my fellow pilgrims as they consisted mainly of elderly Priests and Nuns and I really didn't want to discuss my fanjo with them.
When home, the gynae surgeon had a look and stated that it was definitely gone. I think I heard him mutter 'fucking miracle'' but I may have been mistaken. 😇

Gloryofthe80s · 25/10/2022 13:54

You ok hun?

WhatareEggos · 25/10/2022 13:54

I came very close to being shot when I was about 7 or 8. We lived rurally and I was walking our dog up the hill behind our house, she was in a small gully between two sets of undergrowth and I was just about to enter the clearing, about five meters away. A massive shot rang out right over my dog’s head and I froze, absolutely petrified. After a few moments I ran down towards the dog and turned to
my left to see a man with a massive shotgun turning and walking away. He hadn’t seen me but could easily have blown my head off.

I don’t know what the hell was wrong with me as a kid but I just couldn’t find the words or comprehension to tell anyone. I still haven’t until just now! It’s even more horrific as it was only a few hundred metres from my back door.

Patchoomi · 25/10/2022 14:01

That a boy thumped me and knocked me out at primary school.

Thatsplentyjack · 25/10/2022 14:18

@Coffeetree which bit of that post is spelt wrong?

Thatsplentyjack · 25/10/2022 14:29

I saw the Merseyside goblins. I didn't know what they were until reading about them as an adI saw the Merseyside goblins. I didn't know what they were until reading about them as an adult.

What are they? Never heard of them and can't find anything on Google.

@Sparklesocks he didn't deliver any presents. He just visited

Sounds like a dream, OP. Sorry to say.

Fifiellz · 25/10/2022 14:37

I worked lone nights in a care home and had a soft spot for one of the ladies. She was very difficult and the day staff wouldn't give her the time of day but I would go in for a chat every night.

One night I went in and was told she had died. I did my work and settled down in the lounge about 2am for a break.

Suddenly the 4 portraits of the residents on the wall all flew off towards me, they didn't just fall down, they flew off across the room diagonally to lay at my feet. I just sat there and stared at them for ages. There is no rational reason for them to fall and land as they did.

I feel like she was saying goodbye. Nobody believes me.

auntiemabelisveryable · 25/10/2022 14:38

MRSE20 · 25/10/2022 10:28

Does anyone else swear they remember being able to fly when they were a child? Obviously lucid dreams but I’ve spoken to a few people who agree they used to believe they flied too.

So I have hypnagogic hallucinations and one evening had one where I saw lots of jumbled up numbers… googled them the next day and found out they are all angel numbers. Never heard of it or seen it in my life. I don’t know, something about it still makes me wonder.

Me!

And another thing is that I'm sometimes sure that I can walk in water too!

auntiemabelisveryable · 25/10/2022 14:39

Oops ... "on water"

Thatsplentyjack · 25/10/2022 14:43

@Coffeetree that's not how they spelt it, 🤣 think it's poor reading on your part, and if it was spelt like that in a later post (which i cant find), it was a typo because it's correct in the initial post.
