I'll start.
I've told no one this but my partner. I'm 24 and think Snt Nicholas/santa is real. Why? Because I distinctly remember hearing him. I was at my family members house and it was Christmas eve. I don't know why but my eyes shot open and it must of been around 2am. I could hear the soft chime of bells and it got louder and louder until it was audibly clear what it was. Then I heard a bang on the roof and I kid you not hooves! Loads of hooves and bells. The odd thing was that I wasn't excited as you would expect to be seeing Santa. I suddenly became paralyzed with this weird sense of fear.

I remember hiding in my bed and pulling the blanket over my eyes. I thought if I pretended to sleep he would go away. I then heard heavy sounds of footsteps around the house and a man's voice grunting. After what seemed like forever the noises of the man stopped and the hooves took off. After I was sure the coast was clear I ran to my bedroom window to see if I could catch a glimpse but I saw nothing. That morning I didn't tell anyone but simply asked all my male family members if anyone had gotten up over night. They hadn't (all are quite elderly). I know what I experienced. My partner thinks it was a delusion or one of those realistic dreams. But the experience was so vivid and unusual that I know it was real. No one would believe me so I don't bother saying it!

Okay your turn

I have lots of ghost and 'glitch in the matrix' events, but two truly inexplicable things are I once heard a 'whooshing' sound and looked up to see an absolutely massive craft disappearing from the edges in - and the sound stopped also.

That was fairly recently. About 10 years ago I looked out of my window and saw something that looked like Godzilla but made out of clouds, walking down the road.

I've told my friends, and of course they think it's rubbish. But myths and legends don't come out of nowhere. As humans, we can't even perceive all the wavelengths of light that other animals do. Is it really so outside of the realms of possibility that maybe, just maybe, some of us can percieve things others can't?

I've seen one too. Along and through a hedge line in Cornwall. Proportionally incredibly large in comparison to the hedge. I've convinced myself it was a large black dog but the way it moved was not dog like and it was in the middle of nowhere, no owner about. I pointed it out to my boyfriend of the time and he didn't think it was a dog either but I also think if big cats were roaming about areas of the UK someone would have something definitive and real traces of them by now.

I saw something out hacking one day. Large and black, with a long thin tail like a cat. Crossed the wooded lane in front of us. The horse I was riding loved dogs but she took one look at it and noped right out of there!

I’d love to say I think you’re a nut case and you need to lay off the wacky backy but I don’t think I can talk as although I do not believe in Father Christmas, I genuinely believe I have seen fairies at least twice in my life.

As a scientist who does not believe in the paranormal (I tell myself) I would say that the ‘fairies’ I saw were dragon flies or something and my brain made me see fairies.
I would say that you heard one of your parents (or even someone breaking in) and your child brain thought it was Santa.

However, there was a thread on here back along about people believing they could fly down the stairs.
I was also one of those children and was shocked that other people also had memories of this.

Posters were saying it was a dream and that we were being carried upstairs by our parents to bed but this didn’t make sense as for me it was very real and it was always me flying downstairs.

I have been looking into it a bit since that thread and there is a belief by some experts that children are telepathic and more sensitive to paranormal activity than adults as they use a different part of their brain.

I am on the fence about these things still but there are scientific studies into these things.

I was also one of those "flying down the stairs" kids, had no idea this was a thing?

@Itstarts i think that's what made me feel disturbed about it all. It wasn't a yay santa is here moment. It was like something isn't right and this isn't exciting it's terrifying

Perhaps it was Krampus?

Laiste · 25/10/2022 19:33

I have a couple. No.2 and 3. aren't strictly ''no one would believe me'' as i wasn't alone.

  1. In my last work place i walked past a lot of things on the floor of a specific area, noted the mess mentally, and as i went back past about 10 seconds later the things were all arranged on top of one another in size order in a precarious tower. No one else in building.
  2. DH and i both saw a couple walking through a field close to us - but they vanished into thin air. There was literally no where for them to have gone, no hedges or trees nearby or any vegetation above ankle height.

Lastly - another workplace one - street level of old building. Early morning. No one upstairs as i hadn't unlocked the stair door. Sudden madly heavy footsteps stamping across the ceiling from corner to another diagonally. Physically impossible to do so up there because of shelving units. My colleague stood with me as it went on. We wouldn't unlock the stair door until rest of the staff were in we were so scared. Was the icing on the cake of things that went on in that place!

Letsbekindplease · 25/10/2022 19:34

I love the original post. I know Santa isn’t real, but I like to believe that he is. I had a magical dream once, almost real that I think about often and it fills me with such Christmas spirit and wonder. My family think I’m crazy, but it’s a nice feeling to have.

I'm pretty near you geographically then, so you never know?

I love this thread!

I don't haveva Santa thread but I do have the Argy Man. One night, when I was three or so, a man came into my room and said, "Ar-gee! Ar-gee!" I told my Mum about it the next day and she said it was the wind!

What?

Laiste · 25/10/2022 19:43

Re: flying down the stairs; i can remember as a young kid being able to get all the way down the stairs of the house i grew up in having left the top and only touching the stairs once on the way down somewhere in the middle. I'd grab the hand rail half way down as well.

It wasn't jumping, it was sort of ... whooshing through the air 🤔😳

I know this wasn't dreaming as my dad saw me one time and asked what the hell did i just do. It was awkward. And my dad was never awkward!

Cyshion · 25/10/2022 19:58

I completely believe there are big cats about.

CT095 · 25/10/2022 20:12

@Laiste I've read your story a few times about seeing the couple and find it fascinating because it's rare for two people to see a ghost at the same time, especially two of them! Did the couple acknowledge you and your DH or not as I wonder if it was a timelapse sort of thing, like a recording loop.

PicturesOfDogs · 25/10/2022 20:15

Apparently there is a documentary being released on Friday about big cats in the UK.
I’m not sure where it can be viewed though.

I remember reading that the most likely cause is people used to have them as pets years ago, and then released them when it became illegal

What is something you have experienced that no one would believe?
BettyPaws · 25/10/2022 20:37

@Pancakestoday I can remember stuff from when I was a young toddler too, lying on the floor getting my nappy changed, seeing my sister for the first time ( she’s 14 months younger than me) and I really clearly remember getting carried downstairs, seeing a Christmas tree and being given a doll. My mum says I got the doll the Christmas I was 15 months old. Have other random memories of sitting in a highchair etc too.

Mummadeze · 25/10/2022 20:43

When I was a child, I had a genuine sign from God. I lost something precious to me and prayed for it to be returned. I promised God I would always believe in him if he gave it back to me, and then it just floated down from the sky. I don’t think many people would believe me, but it was a genuine miracle. There is definitely not a scientific explanation for what happened.

ArcaneWireless · 25/10/2022 20:43

Big Cat programme is on Blaze (freeview 064) 28th at 2100 and 30th at 1615.

Will be watching with interest.

cunningartificer · 25/10/2022 20:50

I often think that we're so imbued with ideas of scientific rationalism that we just reason away a lot of weird things that happen. On a woodland walk once I saw a small tiny person shaped brown being looking as though it was dressed in leaves rush across the path--I nearly stepped on it. I did a huge double take and stopped to look after it as I knew what I'd seen but after a few paces I was thinking well it was probably something else or an optical illusion of a blowing leaf (though there was no wind). If it was normal to see such things or they were accepted as existing I would have just thought oh how lucky, I saw a fairy! But that's impossible so of course I didn't...

lljkk · 25/10/2022 20:55

I used to secretly sincerely believe I could fly, but I had to keep it secret because ... reasons. I can remember how that very fervent belief felt. Couldn't say when I tended to disbelieve instead. I think I've had some great flying dreams, is why it seems so real.

Beancounter1 · 25/10/2022 21:00

Not quite something that no-one would believe, but something so strange I could hardly believe my eyes.
We were travelling along a road near Stonehenge in 1996 and saw a makeshift road sign advertising a crop circle in the field, so we went to see it. you can google 'crop circle 1996 Stonehenge' to see a picture.
Now I know the official story is that crop formations are made with planks of wood and rope, but I just don't believe it. The thing was just so incredibly intricate.
What was really amazing is this: if you want to make a circle with a bit of rope you have to put a pole or something in the ground in the centre to pivot the rope around, but in each one of the circles of this formation, in the dead centre, a few stalks of corn stood upright and completely undisturbed, whilst all around them the corn was beautifully laid down in swirls with not a piece missed or messy.

I don't believe it was aliens - just why would they? The best explanation I have is humans (again - why?) using some kind of 'microwave' or similar military thing, coming from or bounced off satellites. The designs could be pre-programmed and executed within moments.
I brought a few of the laid-down stalks home - each one was not bent or broken at random, but instead bent at an angle exactly at a 'node' or natural little lump on the stalk that all grasses have. It looked like the node had been singed.

Wishuponastar5 · 25/10/2022 21:04

Okay few things I'd like to say and most likely should of said....

I was not a kid when this event took place! My memory as a child is rubbish (non existent). This was actually when I was a young teenager. I was the only young person in the house so it wouldn't of been my elderly uncle and aunt, who's house it was, getting up at that time to go around ringing bells. Also the area is pretty isolated so no one around to do that. I know it wasn't my parents as they were asleep and I saw the present "santa" had given me in their bedroom before it was morning.

It really wasn't a dream. The thing is I know it wasn't really the santa of your standard coca cola advert. It all felt really mystical and honestly the fear I felt made it feel more like a spirit/supernatural experience. Who's to say santa didn't start based of a similar experience but people was told he was friendly and gifted them to ease their fear.

I understand all this sounds outlandish to many but honestly I am completely open minded to everyone's experiences on here and will not debunk them based of refusal to just accept people's truths. Who am I to say what is or isn't possible. Why must we always try to rationalise something with science or the dream excuse. Things can happen that don't make sense. That is 100 percent possible.

As for the flying down the stairs post this is really intriguing especially considering how many overs have experienced it. Reminds me abit of that man that loads of people have dreamt of and know his face.

To the poster that said about the dreaming out of body experience, astro projecting? I believe that it is seen almost like lucid dreaming. Some people practice to do it so maybe some people are a natural at it?

The poster who said they saw a godzilla moment, that also sounds extraordinary. If its worth anything I believe you as I have no reason not to. You are completely right that as humans are eyes can't even perceive everything. We may be living along side things we can see or understand. How very self centred we must be as a species to believe the world begins and ends with us!

Sorry for the no tags I had 6 pages to catch up with so couldn't remember all the names and tales.

A saw a UFO as a child. My mum insisted it was a cloud, but it wasn't.

I've "experienced" God.

Dunnoburt · 25/10/2022 21:12

I once saw something that was round and looked like a glowing ember going over my friends house travelling very steadily and most definitely in our orbit..... It was 1998, I was 15, it was winter, cold, a clear night at about 9pm.....can still picture it in my head as clear as if it was yesterday...... could never explain it.... too close for a meteorite and too quick for a lantern etc. Will never forget it......

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 25/10/2022 21:20

Does anyone else think that some possible sightings of UFO,s could be military aircraft that had been newly designed and were being tested ? For instance if you’d seen one of the current fighter planes 30 years ago it would have looked very strange. I’m not totally dismissing what people have seem as some of them don’t fit into this idea, but just wondered what others thought.
I remember having flying dreams regularly when I was a child and my husband had said he did too, I find that very interesting that it seems to stop at adulthood.

DanceForMeColin · 25/10/2022 21:27

@cunningartificer oh wow, how extraordinary. Whereabouts in the UK was this (assuming you are in the UK)? I believe in fairies but I'd never say that out loud!

chipsarnie · 25/10/2022 21:27

Saw a group of three men who looked like WW2 GIs suddenly appear on a forest track about 10 feet in front of me, mid stride, take a few steps towards me and then sort of shimmer and vanish into thin air. One detail I remember is that 2 were smoking cigarettes and one was puffing on a pipe and they looked like they were relaxed and sharing a joke. Near Lake Wolfgang in Austria. It was a very hot day and I might have been a bit dehydrated - but not to the point where I was hallucinating.

Cookingutensil · 25/10/2022 21:32

When I was around six years old there were lots of children on our street and we played regularly in the back lane. A few doors up there were sisters, Julie and Susan. They didn't play with me as much as some of the other children but I knew them well and I hugely admired Julie who would have been about 10, so much older than me and beautiful, so I thought at the time, especially her long, straight hair which I was very envious of.

One summer afternoon, Susan and another girl came round to play in the garden with lots of other kids. I wanted to know where Julie was and who this other girl with Susan was. My parents insisted that the unattractive girl with short, curly hair was Julie. I knew it wasn't so I asked another parent and they too insisted that it was Julie. I became really upset because I knew in my heart it wasn't her - not just the hair - her face and body shape was completely different. It wasn't the girl I had known for years as Julie. Eventually I was sent indoors for causing a scene, yet to this day I swear it was a different girl and I imagine some sinister goings on. In recent years, I've even googled the town searching for answers. Logically I must have misunderstood something, but it's one of those things I just can't accept.
