To think Molton Brown is horrible

Molton Brown appears to be a luxury brand? But I think the products smell and feel cheap and synthetic. Do people actually like their products or is it just a status thing?

@ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS Loving the username.
Yes I go for a similar approach, get a fancy one then stick to the cheapest stuff I can find

TattiePants · 12/10/2022 21:40

I'm another one that loves their orange and bergamot shower gel. I use that, L'Occitane's Almond shower oil and cherry blossom shower gel and Neal's Yard Bee Lovely all the time.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 12/10/2022 21:42

They used to be a luxury brand but they’re a bit cheap and synthetic now. They trade on their past reputation IMO and now are not much better than the ubiquitous and naff Bayliss & Harding.

As for brands I’d buy, Neal’s Yard, L’Occitaine, Aveda, Cowshed…

Xmasbaby11 · 12/10/2022 21:43

I really like it, though not as much as L'occitane. Sadly I can't afford either so it's only an occasional gift.

For affordable luxury in hand-wash, bubble bath etc I love Champneys. I love the smell and it stays on my skin.

I only like the Christmas one, we use it all year round, it's called Festive Frankincense or something like that, I buy it in the sale after Christmas, a couple of bottles seems to last all year as you don't use much.

Oh I love this, only in December though

listsandbudgets · 12/10/2022 21:45

@Ambertonix if you only like the orange and bergamot for the scent take a trip to lidl. Their luxury range rips of Molton Brown and you can get a nice big bottle of o & b for under £2. I think its very close to the orginal smell although I think you need to use more of it but given the bottle is half a litre I reckon I'll stretch to that!

If you're feeling a bit more extravagant I think M&S also does a similar sort of range.

Moon22 · 12/10/2022 21:46

I don't mind it but don't race to get it (I'd still take the mini bottles home if they were in a hotel I was staying in though!)
I wouldn't object to a candle.
My favourite at the minute is Rituals for shower gels etc and Neom for candles- when I'm feeling flush that is!

Subbaxeo · 12/10/2022 21:50

I’ve tried to like it but found the scent and bottles a bit cheap looking-apart from the bergamot one. I love Rituals-especially the orange and cedar wood and the Eucalyptus body scrub makes your bathroom smell heavenly.

Floweryflora · 12/10/2022 21:14

You’d need to have serious smelling issues not to be able to, Baylis is cheap shite and smells like it.

Ah, it's true I don't have a very good sense of smell, so maybe that's it.

ThreeblackCats · 12/10/2022 21:55

It’s subjective.
im sorry you don’t understand that.
ask a grown up or your carer to explain!

I agree OP. I find the smell really repelling.

pocketvenuss · 12/10/2022 22:00

I think it looks cheap and smells cheap. It's like detergent with chemical fruit scent. It looks like something you'd buy in a garden centre shop

sqirrelfriends · 12/10/2022 22:00

They do smell nice enough but give me a headache as they’re so strong.

prefer Aesop, La Labo or Ortigia for showing off and putting swiftly away.

thesurrealist · 12/10/2022 22:02

The M&S fragrance society range is pretty good, but comes no where near MB. I've got incredibly sensitive skin (sometimes I can't even wear cashmere next to it!) and MB is the only product I can tolerate. It also last so much longer than anything.

I've tried B&H and I could basically feel the water leaching from my skin. It also smells cheap and nasty. I don't understand why anyone can't tell the difference and also why Lidl and Aldi shit is always suggested as alternatives. But hey, personal choice ams so on 🤷🏻‍♀️

NumptiesIncorporated · 12/10/2022 22:03

Full of chemicals!

Of course it is. Everything is. Chemicals are the building blocks for absolutely everything. The only thing that isn't full of chemicals is a vacuum.

allboysherebutme · 12/10/2022 22:07

I like them, it wouldn't do for us to all like the same thing. X

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 12/10/2022 22:07

Who?

Asparagoose · 12/10/2022 21:28

MB is owned by Kao, a Japanese company which tests on animals. If you buy MB your money is going to Kao for them to spend on torturing bunny rabbits.

Well, as I said, it's out of my price range so not something I buy.

FabFitFifties · 12/10/2022 22:13

My friend bought me Vintage with elderflower. It's a really strong smell - I like the body lotion smell, as I'm falling asleep, but the lotion itself is nothing special. Same with the bubble bath - love the strong smell, but the actual bathingvexperience is nothing special.

Stickystitch · 12/10/2022 22:14

SavoirFlair · 12/10/2022 19:41

You’ll just get a queue of people on here trying to sound nonchalant about a product which is established as being rather good for many people.

but go on then, for all those who think MB is a bit rubbish. What’s a good luxury alternative scented shower gel or body wash then?

Yeah I'd love some recommendations. I personally love the smell, feel and results of most Aesop products. I just feel wonderful after simply washing my hands!

Another vote for L'Occitaine Almond Shower oil

ChaToilLeam · 12/10/2022 22:26
