To think Molton Brown is horrible

Molton Brown appears to be a luxury brand? But I think the products smell and feel cheap and synthetic. Do people actually like their products or is it just a status thing?

I agree that it smells synthetic, like old fashioned bubble baths from the 80s. I'm not at all fussy with smellies- I love them all- but MB has a really weird background scent that's harsh and chemically.

Katyy · 12/10/2022 20:51

I used to love them around 20 year ago, they were really strong and you didn’t need much but now their awful, they must be watered down. Their really cheap now too on QVC so definitely not the same quality.

I find the heavy scents over powering. I prefer Faith in Nature. It smells nicer with the added bonus of being cheaper, plus you can get refills.

Another vote for Faith in Nature, their wild rose body wash is lovely. The shampoos are good too.

Wouldn't say no to MB or Bayliss and Harding though, bath stuff is always welcome in my house whatever the brand

AriettyHomily · 12/10/2022 20:59

They were very trendy when I was 20 - a long time ago! Bayliss & Harding hasn't helped the brand and I wouldn't pay for it now.

Moonshine5 · 12/10/2022 21:00

OP @Stickystitch yes 100% agree

FelicityFlops · 12/10/2022 21:08

I have been going to Sri Lanka every year since 1998. The M&B Templetree shower gel reminds me of my visits every time I use it (which is daily at present).
Yes, it is expensive, but cheaper than flights and hotels :-)

Yes the temple tree one is lush

Erictheavocado · 12/10/2022 21:10

Not a fan myself - haven't found a scent I like and, as pps have said, it dries my skin terribly. I much prefer L'Occitane and Elemis. I don't get the snobbery about MB, myself.

Floweryflora · 12/10/2022 21:11

Wow you must have really really experience tastes. I use their hand soaps and they are gorgeous.

CeriseRibbon · 12/10/2022 21:14

YABU! I like them because they’re so strongly scented a little drop of the shower gel seems to last for hours on my skin

Floweryflora · 12/10/2022 21:14

ReneBumsWombats · 12/10/2022 20:00

It always seems nice enough. I doubt I could tell it from Bayliss & Harding in a blind test.

You’d need to have serious smelling issues not to be able to, Baylis is cheap shite and smells like it.

laloue · 12/10/2022 21:22

One bottle of shower gel lasts me the best part of six months, smells lovely and doesn’t make me itch. Each to their own.

CustardySergeant · 12/10/2022 21:23

I hate them so much. I bought myself some Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot shower gel once (online) because I love citrus smells and was so disappointed when it arrived. I thought it was absolutely revolting and could detect neither orange nor bergamot. I've tried some other Molton Brown products when they've been in hotels and not liked any of them. They smell so artificial, cheap and nasty.

I now use Fragonard products in Fleur d'oranger fragrance:- reed diffuser, eau de toilette and shower gel and the quality is out of this world. Well worth every penny.

catgirl1976 · 12/10/2022 21:24

I really like the firey pink peppercorn perfume

But I think its over priced

HTH1 · 12/10/2022 21:24

Yes to bubble bath, no to their perfumes (which all smell like nail polish remover).

whumpthereitis · 12/10/2022 21:25

I like Russian Leather, not so much the other scents. I’m using Skandinavisk’s Skog at the moment, which I really like.

Not according to their website:

Cruelty free since 1971
Pioneers in sustainability, we’ve never tested on animals, remaining entirely cruelty free. Molton Brown are proud to be Leaping Bunny approved since 2012. The Leaping Bunny is the globally recognisable gold standard for cruelty free cosmetics and household products, and demonstrates that a brand is genuinely committed to removing animal testing from its supply chain.

Also, a Google search brings up several independent organisations saying they are cruelty-free.

Where is your source for saying they're not?

MB is owned by Kao, a Japanese company which tests on animals. If you buy MB your money is going to Kao for them to spend on torturing bunny rabbits.

user53852098 · 12/10/2022 21:29

it isn't really that expensive, you can usually buy it for about £14, it's only this time of the year it's expensive for the unwanted gift market, I would never buy soap for a gift as you need to check you like the smell

Arnaquer · 12/10/2022 21:30

I prefer L'Occitaine as more natural. MB are very synthetic smelling to me.

luckylavender · 12/10/2022 21:31

I like Molton Brown

tested on animals 😂

why would ANYONE test bubble bath on animals?

It isn't

Whataplanker · 12/10/2022 21:34

I love it and it lasts ages.

sandytooth · 12/10/2022 21:35

I wonder if they'll have to change their packaging after the death of the queen.

I know this isn't how they do it and actually animal testing is cruel and involves putting in eyes and stuff but I am getting a mental image of them giving a chimpanzee a bubble bath or something and asking its opinion.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 12/10/2022 21:37

I just treat myself to some to see if it’s as good as all the hype. I got a taster travel set and £30 box of hand creams 😬 I’m not that fussed on the hand creams, my hands still feel dry after using them quite a lot. The shower gels I like 3 out of the 4 scent wise. I don’t think I will bother buying more, maybe a shower gel for a change of scent once a year, until then I will stick to my radox and nivia.
