To think Molton Brown is horrible

Molton Brown appears to be a luxury brand? But I think the products smell and feel cheap and synthetic. Do people actually like their products or is it just a status thing?

Aesop is nicer

I agree, it's the same as Bayliss and Harding but about 5x the price. Not keen on either of them. I love Neals Yard and L'Occitane stuff though.

There's something wrong with your sense of smell if you think this.

Some Molton Brown fragrances are lovely and none smell cheap.

You’ll just get a queue of people on here trying to sound nonchalant about a product which is established as being rather good for many people.

but go on then, for all those who think MB is a bit rubbish. What’s a good luxury alternative scented shower gel or body wash then?

L’Occitane.

woodhill · 12/10/2022 20:12

I really like the shower gels

StridTheKiller · 12/10/2022 20:15

It is poor quality shite. I gave away the set i was gifted. No idea why it costs so much.

user53852098 · 12/10/2022 20:15

I might pop into L'Occitane tomorrow and have a sniff of some one of the hand washes

eastsheener · 12/10/2022 20:15

Ooh yes Aesop is lovely (but v expensive), I do like MB shower gels and perfume though...

dudsville · 12/10/2022 20:18

We've been using original source hand soaps, usually on offer for £2 a bottle, only two scents in our local shop but we like them both.

I got a gift set one year and quite liked the products. Too expensive for me to buy for myself. But I'm one of the few on here who doesn't turn her nose up at Baylis and Harding! 😃

I can't tell the difference, MB or B&H I don't understand why one is great and one isn't. I've had a few MB as gifts and they are OK but not worth the money in my opinion.

It’s tested on animals. So I suppose it’s ok if you feel comfortable using stuff that has been squirted in rabbits eyes.

Link to that?

L’Occitane.

I agree I much prefer L'Occitane. I'm still too tight to buy it though.

willstarttomorrow · 12/10/2022 20:23

I think it is one of those labels that started out as quite a small niche concern that managed to become aspirational and then were eventually bought out? I do not personally like them but I suspect they are better quality than some of the very cheap, obvious imitations (Bayliss and Harding). There are probably cheaper, as good alternatives but you are paying for the name, a bit like Jo Malone. Some snobbery as well as loyalty is involved and A LOT of what people buy is down to brand perception/loyalty. I am pretty sure there is quite a market for people like to have it in the downstairs loo on display (for guests), higher end hotels/holiday rentals or to gift.

user53852098 · 12/10/2022 20:23

I only buy stuff like that in the sale, I wouldn't buy it now with Christmas coming up

DenholmElliot1 · 12/10/2022 20:24

tested on animals 😂

why would ANYONE test bubble bath on animals?

willstarttomorrow · 12/10/2022 20:24

L'Occitane is bloody lovely as mentioned by a previous poster.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/10/2022 20:25

I've loved the Molton Brown stuff I've been given or used in hotels. I could never bring myself to pay that much, but I've been tempted.

sandytooth · 12/10/2022 20:25

Depends on the smell.

h78 · 12/10/2022 20:27

Never tried the shower stuff but I've got a gorgeous perfume from there. It's definitely luxury prices but I much prefer it to Jo malone scents, whose prices are on par.

I only use the Orange and Bergamot one. It was used in the hotel when i got married so the fragrance of it always evokes good memories. It is very expensive though soi tend to ask for it as a Christmas or birthday gift.

My absolute favourite too. I have the reeds too.

MB comes in smaller bottles!

TroublesComing32 · 12/10/2022 20:38

I really love the Molton Brown shower gels and the perfumes, there is an outlet near us where you can get them for a good price and I think it’s worth it. I do like lots of different shower gels though including the radox ones, Baylis and Harding and body shop. My theory is as a working mum I haven’t loads of time for pampering but a shower everyday is a must so a nice shower gel is a nice luxury. Wouldn’t mind trying some of the ones people have mentioned on this thread.

Yes, I went on holiday and this was used and it always reminds me of being on holiday

Lots of toiletries are tested on animals they either were tested on animals or are sold in Countries where they have to be tested on animals

www.independent.co.uk/infact/animal-testing-cruelty-free-cosmetics-toiletries-household-products-a8877221.html

Its not just toiletries but also paint, cleaning products and god knows what else.
