I don’t know why caused such self harm to myself by watching her awful speech.

Anti growth coalition? There won’t even need to be a coalition looking at the polls.

Yanbu. Everytime I watch her speak, it’s worse.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so serious 🙈

SkirridHill · 05/10/2022 17:02

I missed it, thank God. Every time she's on screen my blood pressure rises.

JugglingJanuary · 05/10/2022 17:06

Weirdly it wasn't anywhere near as dire as I was expecting! In fact I'd go as far as to say it was fine!

she does need someone to tell her though, that she can't pull off that 'putting my foot down' style of speech though. but the rest was perfectly ok.

JugglingJanuary · 05/10/2022 17:07

I thought she did really well with the two Greenpeace idiots

how the hell did they get in? Grinning Idiots!

And they were idiots because? They protested peacefully. Actually I think they were idiotic because it gave Truss a chance to look vaguely statesman-like.

YANBU

And how did they get in? They bought a ticket to attend. Unlike most Tory MPs who couldn't be bothered.

LondonWolf · 05/10/2022 17:22

So once everyone moans about Liz enough and forces her to resign...

Who's next? Genuine question.

User98866 · 05/10/2022 17:23

I’ll be fair and say I didn’t think the speech was as bad as it could have been but she is very far removed from reality, and my expectations were very very low (think Boris peppa pig). There was nothing in it really, apart from lots of contradictions. And more importantly no plan on how they would achieve such growth. I think she needs to include the global markets in her ‘anti growth coalition’. And lord knows what will happen to any environmental policy. Also watch them try to tear up workers rights.

1dayatatime · 05/10/2022 17:28

YABU - rather than out of her mind ,Liz Truss is simply out of her depth.

She had no deep intellect to be "out of". Instead she has a bunch of simplistic sound bites like "let's lower taxes" (I mean who wants higher taxes) or "growth, growth, growth ( I mean who wants recession, recession, recession).

The problem is that there is no thought through plan to achieve these simplistic sound bites and she fails to see or accept any downside secondary effects.

I just watched a video of it. The only person grinning was her.

aniamana · 05/10/2022 17:36

quite simply, she is a dodo. A gormless grinning idiot.

TimBoothseyes · 05/10/2022 17:37

The only reason the speech was "Meh" rather than "WT actual F" is the fact that she didn't write it. If left to her own devices it's been shown many times that she hasn't got a clue what she's doing and doesn't understand the first thing about "what people want".

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 17:39

Did she mention the NHS apart from imply that Theresa Coffey would be doing most of it and getting the GPS to see people within two weeks.
How will she achieve these aims ?
They are not interested in the NHS really
It's all just sound bites
Why are the other parties anti growth?
That is a shocking thing to say when they've been in for 12 years and only getting round to it

witchesbubblebath · 05/10/2022 17:39

I think she thinks the entire country is stupid. That's the only fragment I can gather from what she says.
Like all tories, they haven't spent a minute thinking about how the average Joe might live and what their needs might be.
It's excruciating.
The tax break would obviously include her. She just sees pound signs.

verdantverdure · 05/10/2022 17:39

Oh god. Has Liz Truss been speaking again?

How long until the mortgage rate goes up again?

heldinadream · 05/10/2022 17:39

She thinks she's Thatcher, like Boz thinks he's Churchill. We live in an age of political midgets who think they're giants.

witchesbubblebath · 05/10/2022 17:41

I come from a privileged background but have lived in poverty as an adult and still recieve disability benefits, so have seen both sides of the coin.
It makes me embarrassed to come from a privileged background and a family that vote tory.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 05/10/2022 17:47

Spot on @heldinadream

Lonelycrab · 05/10/2022 17:54

She doesn’t really have a mind. It’s a blank slate that the ERG can fill with whatever they want and then she trots out infront of the cameras, smiles like a Elon Musk droid prototype and reels off whatever programming they’ve given her.

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 18:01

Got chatting to someone in the supermarket today. They think we need to ' give Ms Truss a chance ' ' some of the press are out to get her '
Mrs thatcher was the best thing that ever happened to this country
I just nodded and smiled.
Anyone who thinks Labour has an easy ride coming up is deluded. Many people I know or meet are still in awe of the conservatives party and their past glories despite everything.

witchesbubblebath · 05/10/2022 18:01

I'm not looking forward to seeing the NHS going up in smoke nor seeing schools grind to a halt or any vital services, esp when it concerns children or..... any vulnerable person.

God knows how this country is supposed to limp through another two years of this mad government. What a mess they will leave for the next lot.

LexMitior · 05/10/2022 18:04

She is finished. Nobody wants what she offering, and it won't matter how much she bangs on about growth. Like Brexit, there is no proper plan to deliver it that you can see.

Even her fellow Tories think she's disconnected- they still know they have to win votes.

Fortboyard · 05/10/2022 18:05

Truss has literally zero political nouse. The only reason the speech went off ok was cos she actually said nothing of any substance. Just hot air with no plan whatsoever. What an absolute shower of shot dye is making of this.
I loved the bit about protesters who “stick themselves to things” being a problem to society. Does she include suffragettes who chained themselves to railings in order to get Women the vote and enable Truss to become an MP and PM in the first place. Bet they’re turning in their graves now!
