I don’t know why caused such self harm to myself by watching her awful speech.

Anti growth coalition? There won’t even need to be a coalition looking at the polls.

I’m convinced she’s been programmed. There is simply nothing there! The confused and vacant look when she’s forced to go off script of her stock phrases!

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 18:10

I had to look it up , but James Callaghan was also state educated. He was a Labour leader which is why her history was out there! She isn't the first PM to go to a state school
She should have known this

Mummysgogetter · 05/10/2022 18:10

What people don’t realise is that inflation happened seven or eight months ago, so it’s not just Liz truss’ fault is it? And we have one of the best inflation rates in Europe.

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 18:11

Some rates for mortgages have gone beyond 6percent. They are to blame for this

newstart1234 · 05/10/2022 18:12

Her voice sounded puny trying to pull off the tough guy look. Also even tory voters will think its a bit far fetched to suggest that literally anyone who disagrees with them is actively opposed to economic growth. Plus, they've fully ditched the green revolution haven't they - absurd when that is quite clearly the future.

JudithHarper · 05/10/2022 18:14

She is making Boris look good.

BluesDad · 05/10/2022 18:16

We now have a political party that thinks the way to grow the economy is to reduce taxes, increase state borrowing, freeze benefits, raise interest rates and make fuel bills unaffordable for everyone. When in fact the way to grow the economy is to obtain orders from other countries to manufacture things for them using our own industries employing our own workers which we then sell to them whilst keeping borrowing down, paying off existing debt, maintaining a base rate of no more than three percent and ensuring that everyone has a decent standard of living by increasing pensions and benefits to a minimum of 2/3 of the living wage whilst keeping fuel costs affordable for everyone right across the board regardless of income. What do I know though I’ve only lived, worked and struggled in this country for half a century since I was born here. Most politicians are neither use nor ornament and quite simply not worth voting for imo.

She’s not even the 1st Tory PM to go to a state school. Unless I’m mistaken Grammar schools are state schools, Major, Thatcher. She’s just trying so hard to make herself sound remarkable.

Ladywiddio48 · 05/10/2022 18:17

She has a personality disorder, needs a Psychiatric assessment.

Dave20 · 05/10/2022 18:17

Get rid of the ‘militant unions’ didn’t she say?

The Tories want to take away the power from unions. They want to take away your workers rights.

Apparently people wantning to fight for better pay and working conditions makes you ‘militant’.

When can we vote this lot out?..Is it May 2024?

Thanks Kwasi to fucking up my mortgage rates too. I’m supposed to find £300 a month out of somewhere. I understand rates would go up but not so quickly .

She doesn’t really have a mind. It’s a blank slate that the ERG can fill with whatever they want and then she trots out infront of the cameras, smiles like a Elon Musk droid prototype and reels off whatever programming they’ve given her.

I wish Mumsnet had a like button.

Nobody is perfect but as long as there are no serious issues in someone's character/the way they are doing their job then I think we really need to pull together now as nothing is getting done. We can't have a revolving door style leadership in the conservative party it's not a popularity contest or at least it's not supposed to be. Would you rather have a leader like Putin? Let her get on with the job unless she does something terrible.

Something terrible like cost the country £65billion with absolutely nothing to show for it?

Apparently childcare will be cheaper childminders will be forced to join agencies that instead of charging a one off annual ofsted fee of £35 will charge an upfront joining fee currently more than £100 then take 10% off parents monthly charge so childminders will charge less. Childcare who are already short staffed and have no breaks can also take on more children per adult so they will cut individual fees....but the businesses are already closing becouse they can't pay bills.

I foresee that childminders will be the next government policy caused staff shortage after care workers, nurses, teachers etc

I thought she did really well with the two Greenpeace idiots

how the hell did they get in? Grinning Idiots!

What did she actually do? I think they did do her a favour though by getting a rather thinly-filled room on her side, oh and she made little spontaneous joke. But, you know, ‘who voted for this?’ is a pertinent question clearly in a lot of peoples’ mind.

So once everyone moans about Liz enough and forces her to resign...

Who's next? Genuine question.

We need a general election. Enough is enough. They are truly incompetent and putting the country at risk.

basilmint · 05/10/2022 18:34

I'm not sure that her obsession with growth is a vote-winner (even assuming she manages to actually grow the economy). We've had economic growth for most of the past decade but if you are poor, or public sector, you haven't seen the benefits of that growth.

aniamana · 05/10/2022 17:36

quite simply, she is a dodo. A gormless grinning idiot.

overdue her "extinction" recall then...

In her defence (never thought I'd say that!) she didn't say she was the first prime minister to be state educated, she said she was the first to go to a comprehensive. She would be massively wrong to say she's the first state educated one. Lots have been state educated - Brown, Callaghan, May, Thatcher. They were just under the grammar school system - so really all Truss was saying is that she was born after a certain point when comprehensive schools started to exist.

Theresa May's school became a comprehensive while she was there though (it was a grammar when she joined) so arguably Truss is still slightly wrong. I'm not sure how long May spent there after it changed though.

verdantverdure · 05/10/2022 17:39

Oh god. Has Liz Truss been speaking again?

How long until the mortgage rate goes up again?

The pound fell again after her speech 😭

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 18:39

Oh yes, I forgot the grammar school PMs
So wrong not to get that correct

Who's next? Genuine question.

Hopefully someone decent.

Johnson and Truss can't be the best the Tory's have to offer?

We just have to hope it's not someone worse like Badenoch or Braverman.

They'd make Truss look like a highly intelligent pussy cat!

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 18:41

Braverman would be very popular with many people around where I live :(
