I don’t know why caused such self harm to myself by watching her awful speech.

Anti growth coalition? There won’t even need to be a coalition looking at the polls.

Is it wrong that I was thinking that at least she was advantaged enough to go on a plane. My dc and thousands of us will not have that opportunity during childhood as she's fucked the economy so much it's a pipe dream

She has to find something to boast about.

I doubt the story is even true. The Tories lie as easily as they breathe

paintitallover · 06/10/2022 19:08

I'm confused about why other countries refused to pay extra for energy but aren't expecting power cuts, but we coughed up (like fools) and now face possible power cuts? Is that a Truss special?

the80sweregreat · 06/10/2022 19:59

France has more nuclear energy apparently. Not sure about other countries tbh
The cuts might be on a three hour rota , ( Guardian just now )
I hope that Downing Street get some too!
They might have their own generator ?

Dave20 · 06/10/2022 20:46

The energy bills beats me. I’m confused why ours went up like 300% whilst Frances was just 4%. Were still paying these high bills , the government are just borrowing the money.

Shell is a global company. Truss isn’t going to give them windfall taxes here in this country.
So do France and other EU countries tax the big energy companies?

It just seems to me that little Britain is footing the bills for all this. Poor Joe Bloggs has to work til he’s in his 70s just to survive whilst France again, still retire at 62 or something like that and don’t have the astronomical bills.

It just seems to be us that’s always getting shafted..

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/10/2022 00:43

Throughout the summer other countries have been honest with citizens, asking them to cut back and increasing their energy stores. The message in Germany was "Better a cold shower in summer than a cold home in winter".

By contrast, Liz Truss assured us all that there would be no energy rationing this winter.🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

So is PM Truss Stupid? In denial? Or a habitual liar?

HesterAndPearlInBrightSunshine · 07/10/2022 02:53

Just saw this. If true, I despair:

Nat6999 · 07/10/2022 03:22

She is Margaret Thatcher 2.0 crossed with the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, she hasn't a brain. If she lasts a year it will be a miracle or she will have greased the right Tory palms. Fingers crossed for a General Election, it's like watching a toddler trying to walk in mum's high heels.

Great programme this week on Radio 4 about the energy crisis this winter. The problem is gas supply. We make 40% of our electricity from gas ( I think from Norway not Russia).
As a country we need to use less electricity in order that what we can buy can last us all through the winter - 15% less they think. One alternative is we have planned electricity black outs for 3 hours a day in the winter.
So yes the government really should be telling people to use less. Maybe they think the cost is now enough to reduce usage? Problem is only see people worried about money lowering usage. If you can afford the bills, using the washing machine and tumble dryer several times a day or the heating on high because the house is draughty is acceptable.

follyfeet · 07/10/2022 03:38

I'll say it.
The red wall are thick as pigshit. The tories have modelled themselves as apologists for every dumb, uneducated toe-head in the country. And every dumb, toe-head in the country holds a bitter loathing of anyone and everyone who isn't as dumb or as embittered as themselves.
The rags say jump and the proles obey.
I think Labour (not a fan particularly) and the LD's are a bit too woke and progressive for the majority.
So long as the hard working proles can get the boot in an immigrant or the disabled, we're rolling!

BeserkGiraffe · 07/10/2022 04:31

Yeah, she first let the public know she was bonkers in 2010 and hasn't faltered since then. So the question mjght rather be, what us wrong with our political system that such an extreme and untalented nutter becomes PM?

BeserkGiraffe · 07/10/2022 04:36

Clearly some people were not listening, or applying any rational thought.

But we know this because in the interim they voted for Brexit. 🤣

A country with a majority that wants to shoot itself not just in the foot but in the face too.

Truss as PM is a direct result if those decisions, she'd have got nowhere near this office otherwise. They knew what they were voting for apparently and don't you dare tell them otherwise! Long winter ahead. Enjoy the Brexit benefits.

bevelino · 07/10/2022 04:42

Alltheholidays · 05/10/2022 18:05

I’m convinced she’s been programmed. There is simply nothing there! The confused and vacant look when she’s forced to go off script of her stock phrases!

This

Truss has a very fixed and repetitive speech pattern, lacks empathy and is unable to provide an honest straightforward answer to any question. Her interview with Beth Rigby was beyond weird.

Nat6999 · 07/10/2022 04:54

Hester&PearlinBrightSunshine If she does what is discussed in that article for taxation of married couples she will be taking us back to the 1980's, I worked for HMRC when Independent Taxation was brought in, it took us nearly a year to amend all the records & set up files for all the married women (pre computer records) We will be going back to women being a man's possession, will women lose their right to get a bank account in their own name or a mortgage, serve them right if every married woman applied to get divorced. Women would have no privacy over what they earned, think of women in abusive relationships. We need to get the Tories out before Liz Truss goes for the full Margaret Thatcher perm.

the80sweregreat · 07/10/2022 05:11

Apparently changing the tax laws is ok because the conservatives know what a woman is.

User98866 · 07/10/2022 06:57

For the poster that was wondering, yes the EU are imposing a windfall tax on energy companies to fund their subsidy. Rishi followed the pack as times are unprecedented. We would be much better off if he were still chancellor and Boris was PM. I can’t quite believe it’s come to that.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63089222

I don’t know what Truss think the U.K. will gain from not taxing, but then she used to work for Shell so who knows, maybe a nice little backhander for her? Investment into the U.K. (yea right)? I think it’s simply against her ideology. She can’t seem to understand the times she’s governing in at all.

Dave20 · 07/10/2022 09:59

It’s just totally bonkers. She’s avoided windfall taxes and opted to borrow a hundred odd billion pounds , that will
take literally decades to pay back.

Tax cuts means you can’t spend on the public sector. So I fail to see how’s schools, the NHS, The Police etc will improve.

Were heading back for austerity. I can’t see any other solution.

If Labour win the next GE, can they windfall tax the energy companies and save us from massive government borrowing? Would Labour still do that ?

Dave20 · 07/10/2022 10:04

Nothing has improved since 2010 though has it? I really don’t understand why anyone who isn’t rich would vote for the Tories in future elections.

Nobody voted for Truss or her policies. She has no mandate for the carnage she’s causing.

Our only hope is a vote of no confidence, but the Tories won’t do. We need other political parties to put pressure on to call for a snap
GE. I find that unlikely though because Truss won’t want the embarrassment of leaving office after a few months and being the worst PM in history. She’ll hang on until
shes pushed out.
Even then she’ll have her heels clung to the door of number 10, kicking and screaming.

the80sweregreat · 07/10/2022 10:39

I've a feeling it might be a lot harder to dig up any wrong doing or dirt on her as they did with Boris Johnson. Which finally went towards his downfall.
We know she is wealthy , but probably because she worked for Shell before for years and MPs salaries are not low paid.
Not sure what Hugh does
They won't call a Vote of no confidence.
I feel we 're stuck with her for a while.

In office but not in power as Norman Lamont aptly put it decades ago. She's even annoyed JRM now who had signed off on an energy-saving campaign only to have it vetoed by No 10. The backbenchers who don't have jobs will be in a state of almost permanent rebellion many knowing they are toast at the next election and have nothing to lose except to lobby for their constituencies and projects within it, virtually unwhippable and with the uber snake Michael Gove slithering around sowing dissension at every turn. Toast doesn't do that justice - more like burnt - stale mouldy bread that has fallen under the kitchen cabinets.

I think people who are ideologically blinded are a bit stupid because of it.

And Liz Truss certainly thinks so too. I think she's pretty confident that if she keeps saying the right slogans and buzz phrases a sizeable section of Conservatives will get behind her.

Reality and facts don't impinge on the matter.

This is a Prime Minister who says she is committed to "Sound Money" after having done this:

To think Liz Truss is out of her God damn mind

verdantverdure · 06/10/2022 10:08

What difference does it make if she went to a comprehensive school?

Less entitled background? More similar experience to the majority of families?

Given the criticism of the privately educated elite I think it should make a difference. She will have mixed with a much wider range of people than her colleagues who went to public school.

the80sweregreat · 07/10/2022 11:51

The argument is that Labour installed G Brown and didn't go to the country.
I guess they will argue this!

yetanothercleverusername · 07/10/2022 11:56

She apparently used to be a Lib Dem, she is now clearly a deep cover agent for them, designed to infiltrate and bring down the Tories.
Playing the long game obviously, but nearly there now.

Gordon Brown and Theresa May went to state schools didn't they? So she's not the first, as she claimed? @Seymour5

derxa · 07/10/2022 13:41

Gordon Brown and Theresa May went to state schools didn't they? So she's not the first, as she claimed? @Seymour5 She said comprehensive school not state school. May went to a grammar and Brown went to a selective school and was also fast tracked. Not that it matters but those are the facts.
