I don’t know why caused such self harm to myself by watching her awful speech.

Anti growth coalition? There won’t even need to be a coalition looking at the polls.

The ones supporting them have money.
They really don't care

TheHateIsNotGood · 05/10/2022 20:46

What the UK has is the English version of wee Nicki Sturgeon, not Mags of The Bag. Now The Sturge has remained in Charge for far longer than expected, yet still there's nae Indy Scoterland, so dinnae hold yer breath thinkin wee Trussy will be going soon.

Posting from SW England - apols in advance to Scots speakers.

EnglishRose1320 · 05/10/2022 20:47

The obsession with growth is totally ridiculous. The world has a finite amount of resources and gdp can't go up endlessly. We need to look at other ways of success, we need to be a stable country with environmental growth, sustainability growth, happiness growth. Yes we need to be financially stable, but being stable is very different from gdp growth being the only focus for a whole government.

YANBU. She is waaaay out of her depth, the cronies she has put into the top positions ain't got a clue what they're doing either, and there needs to be a General Election to get the Tories out.

Bring back BORIS - or Theresa May. Or anyone really other than this little grinning and smirking 'Maggie Thatcher Wannabe!'

Honestly, people wanted Boris out, (and Theresa,) but I think this is a case of 'be careful what you wish for!'

I thought this when the opposition parties were pushing for BoJo to go, it was always likely that he would be replaced by someone worse. It’s hardly a surprise.

Here she is being an idiot in one minute. Truss scares me in a way that no other politician has in my lifetime as we have never had this level of incompetence coupled with an overarching sense of her own ability before.

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 20:55

Money fascinates me, not in the having it category , but if
the civilized world hadn't invented it , we may have been a happier world !
I blame the romans. Who whoever invented it.
It's a curse.

Yes, so right wing now :(
Never in my lifetime either

Up to a point, Lady Copper bartering is only good up to a point. Probably the finest unit of human happiness is epitomised by the village and anything bigger than this leads to disconnection and misery. 150 years ago 99% of folk in the UK would live and die within 5 miles of where we were born and that would be our world. We would all be horrendous judgemental gossips though.... and end up fantasizing about the vicar or the squire...

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 18:10

I had to look it up , but James Callaghan was also state educated. He was a Labour leader which is why her history was out there! She isn't the first PM to go to a state school
She should have known this

I believe Theresa May also went to state schools, with the exception of a few years of primary school. So Truss didn't need to know history, just have a vague knowledge of her current colleagues...

Apparently London could be heading for a housing price crash… mainly thanks to the chancellor’s fuck up.

There is hope that even the rich will turn on them.Daily mail online comments are not complimentary..

juggleit · 05/10/2022 21:10

Liz Truss is not the greatest speaker that is for sure!
kemi Bachonach is the one to watch - such an intelligent speaker and on a completely different level to Liz.. Sadly it wasn’t her time for leader but one for the future-just amazing charisma and ability to convey her thoughts. I can’t see the conservatives pulling this back now so time for labour to enter stage. They have to get a grip on inflation ffs!

Bacibaci · 05/10/2022 21:12

Truss and Kharteng work closely with v right wing think tanks who believe in low taxes, small state, extreme deregulation (many protections would be taken away, employment rights, environment protections etc). This is their ideology, an ideology I find grim.

Apparently childcare will be cheaper childminders will be forced to join agencies that instead of charging a one off annual ofsted fee of £35 will charge an upfront joining fee currently more than £100 then take 10% off parents monthly charge so childminders will charge less. Childcare who are already short staffed and have no breaks can also take on more children per adult so they will cut individual fees....but the businesses are already closing becouse they can't pay bills.

So we’d be paying the childminder less because they’ll be earning 10% less?

I already wonder how our CM got by with having to deduct toys, food etc from their fees.

I thought she did really well with the two Greenpeace idiots

how the hell did they get in? Grinning Idiots!

This govt want to start fracking, which will increase carbon emissions and risk polluting the water supply. I stand fully behind Greenpeace.

LexMitior · 05/10/2022 21:22

@juggleit - really? KB is okay. Compare here to a generation before of politicians before and she looks mediocre.

I accept, btw, that this goes for most of the cabinet.

KB will have do something rather extraordinary to change the international trajectory of the country, which needs all the help we can get. If KB gets a decent trade deal with India, for example.

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/10/2022 21:25

"So, I'm not going to tell you what to do, or what to think or how to live your life. I'm not interested in how many two-for-one offers you buy at the supermarket, how you spend your spare time, or in virtue signalling".

"I'm not interested in just talking about things, but actually in doing things. What I'm interested in is your hopes and fears that you feel every day".

Liz Truss, a few minutes before 2 people were ejected from the conference for doing something, other than talking or virtue signalling, about something they fear.

Hypocrisy at it's best.

And so unbearably smug. Even when I agree with left-wing people, I can’t bear them. Too often, they behave as if they are heroes in some cheesy, mawkish Hollywood film. I honestly think that’s how half of them see the world - everything neatly divided into goodies and baddies. Uggh, and that sanctimonious martyr look on their faces!!

And you'd never divide people into two camps at all @Suetwo.🤣🤣🤣

vera99 · 05/10/2022 22:07

NEVER EVER trust a Tory - they will always give you the square root of fuck all and blame someone else for it. Whatever crap Coffey talked about today the NHS was the product of a Labour socialist government not some fucking parasitical hedge fund bunging millions to the Tories to game the system. Listen to Nye Bevan one of the founders and creators of the NHS that was implemented with fierce opposition from Churchill land the post-war Tories.

ddl1 · 05/10/2022 22:34

To be out of her God damn mind, she would have to have a God damn mind!

Elodie09 · 05/10/2022 22:35

@L1ttledrummergirl I am really worried as to how we achieve change through a fair and honest, non-interfered with GE but I take your point, a fascist ruling party not society.
Hopefully.

Imagine being reduced to trawling through the failed ideas you had a decade ago in your first Government job!

She tried to force through childminder agencies when she was Early Years minister: she did the minimum research work, despite all those "fact-finding" trips abroad and then ignored every single voice telling her why it wouldn't work.

We know it will increase costs for parents and decrease quality.

She's totally out of her depth, just as she has been in every Government position she's ever held.

Elodie09 · 05/10/2022 22:39

Hopefully not a fascist ruling party either!

Maggiethecat · 05/10/2022 22:56

Grinning like a bloody lunatic

@Dave20 ah interesting about the house price crash - where did you read that?
