I don’t know why caused such self harm to myself by watching her awful speech.

Anti growth coalition? There won’t even need to be a coalition looking at the polls.

Oh god. Has Liz Truss been speaking again?

How long until the mortgage rate goes up again?

Within 2 hours the pound had dropped 2% against the dollar.

She really doesn't manage to just crash the market by opening her mouth.

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 18:41

Braverman would be very popular with many people around where I live :(

Me too.

But she's my MP!

She's also falling foul of favour though.

FB has started getting negative towards her and her % of votes dropped 9% this time round on a 5% increased turnout.

Nobody is perfect but as long as there are no serious issues in someone's character/the way they are doing their job then I think we really need to pull together now as nothing is getting done. We can't have a revolving door style leadership in the conservative party it's not a popularity contest or at least it's not supposed to be. Would you rather have a leader like Putin? Let her get on with the job unless she does something terrible.

‘Not as bad as Putin’…if that’s the most positive thing to say about her then tories really have hit a new low on acceptable standards for leadership.

We need a general election. Enough is enough. They are truly incompetent and putting the country at risk.

I agree for the sake of the whole Country we need a general election asap. Its insane to allow this lot to carry on destroying everything.

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/10/2022 18:53

I'm just watching it. She wants to remove the pesky rules (like employment rights), stop the echr from intervening, allow building rules and safety rules to be scrapped.

They won't be happy until most of the population is working 14 hours a day seven days a week so that the few can live in luxury.

She is lying through her teeth through most of it, slagging off the other leaders in the country as though she is so much better.

She thinks her chancellor is dynamic for fucks sake. Did she see the way he walked onto the stage? She is full of shit and spewing it out of every orifice.

And so fucking smug.

Dave20 · 05/10/2022 18:53

I agree we need a GE but the government are hardly going to call one are they?
They think they can convince the electorate to vote them in again in two years.

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 18:56

I feel we are stuck with them now.
Can't see a way out of any of it tbh

Dave20 · 05/10/2022 18:57

Truss wants to take away workers rights and stop trade unions.

Worrying lots of people it seems support her.

The Tories are getting dangerous. Fuck knows what they’ll do next.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/10/2022 18:57

If she wants growth then join the EEA! I can pretty much guarantee her double digit growth within 18 months!!!

Lonelycrab · 05/10/2022 18:59

They think they can convince the electorate to vote them in again in two years

I don’t think they do as it goes. They know they’re toast, and are in the mode of getting away with as much as they can get over the next two years. Smash and grab in other words.

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 19:02

They are dangerous.
Lots of people believe in them though
Especially the immigration points and the ECHR
It's not a given they would lose an election.
We would go even further right then , even with a tiny majority.

Elodie09 · 05/10/2022 19:09

I read that they are expecting to have a GE in early 2025.
We'll be living in a Fascist society by then if that is the case.
So sick of the lot of them and heaven help anyone who is dependant on
benefit help with Smith at the helm of the DWP and Coffey at Health.

How do we get a GE , surely Truss cannot be the only person in the UK to call it?

Why can't the media and CEO's of companies who want us to buy stuff from them add their voices to the very angry working people of the UK who want this embarrassment to end.
What is the rest of the world thinking when they look at us?
Mhairi Black for PM now ( well except that I don't want beautiful Scotland to leave but she might work something out !! )

We might as well have Putin. Truss is pushing policies that no one voted for. They were not in the conservative manifesto at the last electron. She's doing whatever she likes and sticking her fingers up at everyone.

JugglingJanuary · 05/10/2022 17:06

Weirdly it wasn't anywhere near as dire as I was expecting! In fact I'd go as far as to say it was fine!

she does need someone to tell her though, that she can't pull off that 'putting my foot down' style of speech though. but the rest was perfectly ok.

Tory voters still cant see anything wrong, sad very sad

purplethings · 05/10/2022 19:11

Why is Growth seen as good ? Surely we should all get used to consuming less if we want to try to delay the total destruction of our environment that this obsession with growth has led us to.

😂 I'm just saying it could be a lot worse. We should be grateful we live in the UK..to a certain extent.

There is going to be a debate about having a GE thanks to this petition. I doubt it will lead to anything though - half a million signatures just isn't enough to prove the strength of feeling is there in favour of a GE.

basilmint · 05/10/2022 19:18

I read that they are expecting to have a GE in early 2025.

Surely they can't go past December 2024 as that is 5 years after the last election? I had heard May 2024 suggested.

theworldhas · 05/10/2022 19:21

In terms of being an electoral liability, Penny Morduant was the least bad. Sunak would have been merely diabolical. Truss was the nuclear option.
I can only assume the Tory voters chose her on purpose to throw the next election - so as to leave the wrecked country at Labour’s door for a term or two ASAP. It’s like the Tories are on a mission to achieve single figures in the polls.

AMindNeedsBooks · 05/10/2022 19:24

miceonabranch · 05/10/2022 18:32

Came to say the same. It is beyond a joke. Tories wouldn't be still in power if Bojo hadn't strategically did the last one immediately before Brexit.

I am genuinely frightened of what lays ahead if they stay in power. I also have no idea why anyone thought she'd make a good PM.

BluesDad · 05/10/2022 19:26

A general election would only swap one shower of shite for another similar or worse shower of shite. The two party political system in this country is ludicrous. We need much more choice to call ourselves a democracy!

Elodie09 · 05/10/2022 19:33

I looked it up, January 2025 is the latest they can have a General election . 5 years and 25 days after the dec 2019 one apparantly and if I'm correct, Johnson changed some rules about calling elections so that the HoC lost some power to do this.
Over to you Truss, you know what you need to do. Do the right thing for the country before any more lives are ruined.

Wonnle · 05/10/2022 19:34

She's really only PM by default isn't she , happened to be voted in as leader of the party with the most seats .

Totally out of her depth me thinks , someone somewhere is telling her what to do , say and think .

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2022 19:49

Truss isn't really into saving the planet is she though ? Ripping up the rules means less regs over flood plains etc
I can't get on board with that argument really

BirmaBrite · 05/10/2022 19:51

What I don't understand is that the reduction in the tax rate for the highest earners was described as a way of encouraging growth. Then it allegedly became a 'distraction' and so they U-turned on it. So does that make them the anti-growth coalition too ?
