Cost of living faux confusion - is this the new non-binary?

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 03/10/2022 14:49

A couple of years back there was a whole spate of threads from people claiming they “didn’t understand” the concept of being non-binary and, while they absolutely weren’t being judgemental in any way (heaven forbid!), they were terribly confused what it all meant and wanted to be educated. “I just want to understand, explain it to me” ad infinitum.

Those seem to have died out a bit now - but faux confusion over cost of living threads seems to be the replacement. More and more threads are going down the route of “But I don’t understand, I went to the shops on Thursday and people were actually buying things, so how can there be a cost of living crisis?! Who is spending all this money? And I don’t mean shitholes full of common people discount shops like Aldi and Poundland - I mean NICE shops like M&S Foodhall and Waitrose! So where is this cost of living crisis? I’m sooooo confuuuused!!!”

I can’t be the only one thinking that this basically translates to “If there was a REAL cost of living crisis people would be rummaging in the gutters for bruised apples instead of spending actual money in nice shops and rubbing shoulders with the likes of me - therefore they should all stop moaning and go and chew on an Asda Essential”?

Nah I still think non binary is a load of cobblers.

Northernsoullover · 03/10/2022 14:52

What is non binary?

W0tnow · 03/10/2022 14:52

It’s kind of an odd parallel to draw.

meditrina · 03/10/2022 14:52

It's confirmation bias. You're theory is supported by the threads you choose to open and then remember.

And yes, MN has always had lots of repetitive threads, because it's OK to start another no matter how many others are in Active on a similar theme

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2022 14:52
Confused
Creepybookworm · 03/10/2022 14:53

No because non-binary doesn't make any sense at all. It's completely illogical. The cost of living crises is completely logical.

b8tes7sw · 03/10/2022 14:53

What??

JohnsShirt · 03/10/2022 14:53

I still don't understand non binary and no one has ever been able to explain it in a way that makes the slightest bit of sense

ChilliBandit · 03/10/2022 14:53

There are a lot of dense people around. Sometimes I am one of them and other times I am thinking god that person is thick.

Sunnyqueen · 03/10/2022 14:54

As someone who is on uc and hasn't stepped foot in an M&S or waitrose in years there is so much cringe in this op I can't even even 🤢just no, try again.

MorrisZapp · 03/10/2022 14:55

Non binary is bonkers, if you can explain it to me in a clear way I will cease to be confused, faux or otherwise.

I think perhaps the 'loads of people were in the pubs and restaurants near me' type posts are in answer to those claiming that the entire country is on its knees and nobody has had a fiver to spare for entertainment since the brexit vote.

As usual, balance is everything.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2022 14:56

Bit like algorithms confusing as fuck Grin

Cwcwbird · 03/10/2022 14:59

Seriously? Have you not seen the million threads on heating and drying clothes?? They far outnumber any threads like you mention in your op.

AryaStarkWolf · 03/10/2022 15:00

😂 Same

DrManhattan · 03/10/2022 15:01

Is this just designed to stir sh*t up?

Absolutely this.

The comparison makes no sense whatsoever.

Faux shit stirring post about faux shit stirring?

It's like goady inception.

pattihews · 03/10/2022 15:03

I think you don't hear much about non-binary now because everyone knows it's a load of bollocks adopted by spicy straights and sad teens to make themselves seem more interesting. What that has to do with people struggling to get their heads around cost of living rises I don't know.

If anything's faux it's this thread.

Teenyliving · 03/10/2022 15:04

the cost of living crisis TOTALLY confirms that there are not two material biological sexes.

you’ve persuaded me OP.

WallaceinAnderland · 03/10/2022 15:05

I still don't understand non binary as it's made up bollocks, nothing faux about it.

Completely agree but we’re not allowed to say it out loud apparently! I think I’m just going to start saying I identify as a unicorn and get really offended when no1 understands. It’s all the same head fuck nonsense.

Grin Perfection.

lifeturnsonadime · 03/10/2022 15:08

Well non binary is a load of made up nonsense but the cost of living crisis is real.

Odd post.

phishy · 03/10/2022 15:11

Non-binary my arse.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/10/2022 15:13

Well I don’t see the correlation between this and people being non binary - which is a very different sort of discussion- but I do find it annoying when people claim there’s no cost of living crisis. And put up ridiculous arguments as to why.

So voted YANBU for that bit.
