To feed partner bagel that’s been on the floor?

So I was making some cream cheese and bacon bagels for me and my boyfriend today, and one accidentally dropped on the floor…

It was the last one so I couldn’t just toast another, and boyfriend had been looking forward to it so didn’t want to admit to being an idiot and dropping it on the floor as he would be really disappointed.

The floor is cleaned daily, and I thought what he doesn’t know can’t hurt him, so I quickly picked it up and put it on the plate and served him the bagel. But I did feel guilty watching him eat the floor bagel. 😖

Am I being unreasonable to serve boyfriend the floor bagel? Ease my guilt and tell me I’m not the only one to do something like this…

Sounds fine. You clean your floor every day .. it must be pretty clean!

Namechanged454 · 29/09/2022 16:36

Id have done the same!

shivawn · 29/09/2022 16:36

I wouldn't worry about it, 5 second rule and all that.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 29/09/2022 16:36

Wouldn't bother me as long as it had been brushed off!

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 29/09/2022 16:37

10 second rule, it's absolutely fine.

ParentallyUnprepared · 29/09/2022 16:38

My friend took her boyfriend a bacon sandwich which she'd dropped on a cafe floor and let him eat it rather than buy a new one.

SpaghettiSquash · 29/09/2022 16:38

YABU - that's awful. Why didn't you give yourself the one that had been on the floor?

properdoughnut · 29/09/2022 16:38

Why didn't you eat it and give him yours? Or were you making his after you'd eaten yours?

That's what I don't get. Seems cruel to feed someone floor bagel when it was your own fault.

candycaneframe · 29/09/2022 16:39

Why did you have the floor bagel?

If you had already eaten yours then YANBU

Whatsthestorytomorrow · 29/09/2022 16:39

I once saw a customer drop a French stick on the floor in front of the customer service desk in Tesco.
The staff told her to go and get herself another one.
she replied laughing “it’s alright, I’m just going to give it to my husband” 😳

Your own, regularly cleaned, floor (esp if you don’t wear shoes in the house) is fine. A store floor that lots of people have tramped all over is disgusting!

StandingInTheMoment · 29/09/2022 16:40

I would have told my partner and he wouldn’t have been bothered.

DarkAndDusty · 29/09/2022 16:40

If it had fallen cream cheese side down then it would arguably be cruel to serve it to a loved one, but just the nude bagel - totally fine.

And I'm impressed that you clean your floor every day...

wackamole · 29/09/2022 16:40

Generally think it's fine, especially now that we know The Queen was OK with Theresa May serving the dropped cheese. But if you were making bagels for both of you, why give him the dropped bagel instead of having it yourself and giving him the other one?

Ooohyeah · 29/09/2022 16:41

I would’ve eaten that one myself but no harm done.

skedaddler · 29/09/2022 16:41

I'd eat that if it happened on my rarely cleaned floor that the dog eats biscuits off ! Love a bagel

Chloefairydust · 29/09/2022 16:41

I gave him the floor bagel as I couldn’t bring myself to eat a bagel I know has been on the floor…

Im a terrible girlfriend aren’t I? 🫣

Of course then you're being unreasonable

Ooohyeah · 29/09/2022 16:42

Then yes, YABU.

Michellexxx · 29/09/2022 16:43

I’d do the same..I’m sure he’ll survive 😂

Yes and tbh I'd leave him. He should be able to trust you to treat him as you'd want to be treated. I know it's "only a bagel" but you've decided it's not good enough for you but he can just eat it. You don't see him as equal.

That makes it even worse! If you weren't prepared to eat the one that had been on the floor you should have told him what had happened and let him decide if he wanted to eat it or not.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 29/09/2022 16:48

The floor bagel? meh.. . but cream cheese and bacon? Spectacularly unreasonable.
