To feed partner bagel that’s been on the floor?

Chloefairydust · 29/09/2022 16:35

So I was making some cream cheese and bacon bagels for me and my boyfriend today, and one accidentally dropped on the floor…

It was the last one so I couldn’t just toast another, and boyfriend had been looking forward to it so didn’t want to admit to being an idiot and dropping it on the floor as he would be really disappointed.

The floor is cleaned daily, and I thought what he doesn’t know can’t hurt him, so I quickly picked it up and put it on the plate and served him the bagel. But I did feel guilty watching him eat the floor bagel. 😖

Am I being unreasonable to serve boyfriend the floor bagel? Ease my guilt and tell me I’m not the only one to do something like this…

I’d 100% eat it myself off my own floor (which is not cleaned daily and may require fluff picking off it) so I’d have no issues serving it to DH, and I know he wouldn’t really care either.

I might have a slight moral dilemma over whether to give DH the dropped one or take it myself. Would probably depend how much he was annoying me that day.

I really hope the people commenting here are not involved in preparing food in a restaurant or cafe. Because the lack of basic food hygiene is rather worrying...

Yeah it's gross.

YABU. Not for thinking a bagel off the floor might be ok to eat but for thinking it's not good enough for you but good enough for him. Do you think he's lesser than you? Why are you with him if you think he deserves worse than you do?

andtheweedonkey · 30/09/2022 19:03

If I dropped a bagel on the floor I wouldn't eat it...

My cat...yeah, he would. 😻

Artesia · 30/09/2022 19:11

The thing that upsets me most is that you buttered the bagel before putting cream cheese on it. I love a good slathering of butter or cream cheese, but the thought of both together makes me feel most uncomfortable. Was the bagel still warm, so the butter melted under the cream cheese? I need further clarification

JMKid · 30/09/2022 19:20

It was barely on the floor, people need to get a grip. He is hardly going to get ill for it, nor would you have if you had eaten it yourself.

Aww no… Have I been making bagels wrong my whole life?? 😱

I always butter the bagel before the cream cheese haha… I always wonder how other people make their bagels?

Savoury it’s usually cream cheese with smoked bacon (I really like smoked salmon too but DH hates it and think I would struggle to eat a whole pack of the stuff myself).

I really like the sweet cinnamon bagels but just toast them with butter, I have no idea what else to put on them 🤔

And the bagel was warm still so the butter melted into it 😋

It’s not that I think less of my boyfriend, I just thought because he didn’t know he was eating the floor bagel it wouldn’t take away from the whole bagel experience for him. And he did seem to enjoy eating the bagel… I did feel guilty after though, but then the floor is kept clean so I don’t think he would be unwell from eating it, and he doesn’t seem to have had any ill effects from eating it … 🤷🏼‍♀️

What now?? Why is she with him?

I’d die for any of my kids (but not for my husband) But they’d all get the sullied bagel 🥯

Justme10 · 30/09/2022 20:43

I cook all the meals so I pick the nicest looking bits for myself and I wouldn't take the floor food either, even though the floor is clean.

If someone finally cooks a meal for me then they are more than welcome to give me the floor food as long as the floor was clean and they don't tell me about it.

"Yes and tbh I'd leave him. He should be able to trust you to treat him as you'd want to be treated. I know it's "only a bagel" but you've decided it's not good enough for you but he can just eat it. You don't see him as equal."

🤣Jesus Christ that's a bit harsh 🤣

Crying at this... Grin

That's shocking.

You clean your kitchen floor every day Shock

Why?

This!!!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 29/09/2022 19:38

I'd give my husband the floor bagel all day long.

I once put a slice of cake on the sofa arm for him and before he came into the room to eat it, the dog licked it. I said nothing 🤐

Brilliant. I'd do that.

Oysterbabe · 30/09/2022 21:04

I'd have eaten the floor bagel and not given it a seconds thought.

xsquared · 30/09/2022 21:07

It's not the giving him a "dirtied" bagel that's the problem. It's treating her DP in the way she wouldn't want to be treated herself. The bagel wasn't good enough for her so she gives it her dp without telling him it's been dropped.

I'm sure he wouldn't have minded and my own dh insisted on having it himself rather than starting again with a new one. You should have just told him and let him decide.

Redqueenheart · 30/09/2022 21:15

@JMKid ''It was barely on the floor, people need to get a grip. He is hardly going to get ill for it, nor would you have if you had eaten it yourself.''

How would you feel if you went to a restaurant and the kitchen staff was routinely playing around with your food, dropping it on the floor (where it would pick any bit of hair/fluff/bacteria and whatever else they brought in via the soles of their shoes) and then putting it back on your plate and serving it to you?

Would you think that's OK? Because I think the majority of people would be horrified and the restaurant would probably be closed down pretty quickly for putting their customers at risk.

Well, that's exactly the same thing.

Especially If you have pets around the house, if you wear shoes indoor that you used outside that bagel the OP dropped could have come in contact with some nasty stuff.

So I will say it again this is simply revolting behaviour.

No one needs to ''get a grip'' but a few people need to seriously raise their hygiene standards.

billy1966 · 30/09/2022 21:18

Wouldn't dream of not picking it up and carrying on eating it.
No animals in this house so maybe that is why.

I have one of those mops and a mixture of lemon smelly floor cleaner with vinegar does the job.
That and a Dyson and floors are so easy to keep.

I love a cinnamon raisin bagel and like to top it with Red currant jelly.
Tesco do a nice own label jar, stocked where they keep horseradish and other condiments.
It has a fruity tartness to it that is superb over lashings of butter.

I've lost count of the number of things I've fed to my partner that have been on the floor. He's still alive and well.

Im a terrible girlfriend aren’t I? 🫣

I'd do the same..
