To feed partner bagel that’s been on the floor?

Chloefairydust · 29/09/2022 16:35

So I was making some cream cheese and bacon bagels for me and my boyfriend today, and one accidentally dropped on the floor…

It was the last one so I couldn’t just toast another, and boyfriend had been looking forward to it so didn’t want to admit to being an idiot and dropping it on the floor as he would be really disappointed.

The floor is cleaned daily, and I thought what he doesn’t know can’t hurt him, so I quickly picked it up and put it on the plate and served him the bagel. But I did feel guilty watching him eat the floor bagel. 😖

Am I being unreasonable to serve boyfriend the floor bagel? Ease my guilt and tell me I’m not the only one to do something like this…

But equally I would eat it in a heartbeat too

Mariposista · 30/09/2022 22:14

Come on, 5 second rule. It's not like you dropped it in dog poo.

Sunnytwobridges · 30/09/2022 22:16

I would have DEFINITELY given the floor bagel to my ex cause he's an arse and I couldn't stand him.

skedaddler · 30/09/2022 22:17

To be fair, I once served a birthday cake at a kids party that my cat had licked the icing of. No one got ill. What on earth do people think would happen! If someone feeds me something lovely I'd rather not know if it's been on the floor.

spirit20 · 30/09/2022 22:23

Tbh I'd have no problem eating a bagel that had been on the floor as long as I knew that the floor was clean etc. But I do think you're quite selfish if you gave it to him when you wouldn't be willing to eat it yourself.

skedaddler · 30/09/2022 22:27

This reminds me of Theresa may's story about the dropped cheese and the Queen !

That's shocking.

You clean your kitchen floor every day Shock

Why?

So she can feed the bf off it, obviously 😂😂😂

@JMKid ''It was barely on the floor, people need to get a grip. He is hardly going to get ill for it, nor would you have if you had eaten it yourself.''

How would you feel if you went to a restaurant and the kitchen staff was routinely playing around with your food, dropping it on the floor (where it would pick any bit of hair/fluff/bacteria and whatever else they brought in via the soles of their shoes) and then putting it back on your plate and serving it to you?

Would you think that's OK? Because I think the majority of people would be horrified and the restaurant would probably be closed down pretty quickly for putting their customers at risk.

Well, that's exactly the same thing.

Especially If you have pets around the house, if you wear shoes indoor that you used outside that bagel the OP dropped could have come in contact with some nasty stuff.

So I will say it again this is simply revolting behaviour.

No one needs to ''get a grip'' but a few people need to seriously raise their hygiene standards.

My kitchen floor is cleaner than a restaurant floor, and outdoor shoes are not worn in the house.

We have a cat but she is wormed/ flead and up to date with vaccines, and she is very clean. So clean I don’t mind sharing my cereal bowl milk with her 🤣

The floor is mopped daily with a disinfectant zoflora or fabulousa. So I think there is very little bacteria on the floor.

Well if it’s good enough for the cat, it’s good enough for us 😂

If it had fallen cream cheese side down then it would arguably be cruel to serve it to a loved one, but just the nude bagel - totally fine.

And I'm impressed that you clean your floor every day...

Me too...

WingingItSince1973 · 30/09/2022 23:13

Ah the men in our family wouldn't think twice about eating floor bagel. I've seen my fil eat floor lasagne that slipped from its tray in our center parcs Lodge. He's still alive and well 🤣

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/09/2022 23:23

I am amazed you even gave this a thought

Are you germ phobic or something? You need germs around or your immune system packs up from boredom.

I might draw the line at floor lasagna 🤣

So why can't you bring yourself to eat a bagel that has been dropped on your super clean floor then?

I think it’s just psychological , like I know logically the floor is clean…

But the thought of the bagel being on the floor for those 2.5 seconds …🤔

Dear Lord, I've been married for over 30 years, and between DH and me, we must have eaten a good number of dropped on the kitchen floor foods...and we are both as healthy as they come!
And I don't mop every day!
OK I wouldn't eat meat that hits the floor (cos I'm veggie) ..and the dog would get there first, but a crusty roll? . Pick up, brush off, carry on! WHo hasn't had a long french stick break in half carrying in the shopping? I'm not binning it!

Yep.. low standards but never ill, unless you count eating raw runner beans stright from the garden... I'll concede that WAS an error of judgement 😳

BetsyFredandJolly · 30/09/2022 23:58

I would have done the same OP. I'm not proud of it but ignorance is bliss and all that. And I've seen him eating stuff he dropped on the floor so no guilt. Take it to the grave though! This is the sort of thing people bring up five years down the line "YOU GAVE ME THE DROPPED BAGEL!". Yeah....

hiyaqwerty · 01/10/2022 10:02

Well your floor isn't that clean if you use those spray mops, those things just move dirt around and unless your changing the pad between every clean, it's not really cleaning your floors.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 01/10/2022 10:10

Yep, I would! I mop the kitchen floor daily too so it's pretty clean.

Comtesse · 01/10/2022 10:13

What harm exactly will befall you if you eat something that has been in a reasonably clean floor for 2.5 seconds? Will it make you sick? Will it kill you? Logically, thinking about the risks, the answer is that NOTHING will happen. You might eat a few extra microbes or some extra dust/ dirt but so what? Your body is capable of dealing with all that and worse.

In fact if you read someone like Tim Spector he would argue that underexposure to microbes etc is having a bad impact on human health.

YABVU for not eating it yourself - get a grip! And if your boyfriend would feel funny about eating it he should get a grip as well!
