For wanting to do a Ouija board for a laugh?

Next year DH and I are staying in a castle thought to be the most haunted in Britain. DH says he doesn’t believe in stuff like that, I’m on the fence really but more towards not believing. I think the most likely scenario if ghosts ARE real is that they’re historical residue and not intelligent entities. But even that is a stretch.

So, I’d like to do a ouija board when we’re there for a laugh. The castle is in the middle of nowhere so there isn’t much else to do on an evening other than drink (which I don’t do) and watch Netflix!

DH is point blank refusing saying he isn’t messing about with stuff like that. But he’s a non believer??! So what’s the harm?

If he doesn’t believe in it, am I being unreasonable to ask him to do it?

Don't! One of my friends went to a dinner party with three other couples...all fit in their 40s. Someone suggested their used a Ouija board....my friend wasn't happy to do it so made excuses and left with her husband. Six months later the three couples who did are all dead. This isn't a made up story but true and my friend won't talk about it. Don't ever muddle with this.

That's a terrible tragedy. Their families should sue Hasbro to make sure it never happens again. Why wouldn't you, to save lives?

I categorically am a scientist, and believe in facts and what can be proven.

still wouldn’t tempt any of that creepy shit just in case!! 😱

Oh yes, definitely dead because of a piece of wood.

Me my DH and 8 of our friends did one.

6 months later we had all won the Euromillions Jackpot. Not not as a syndicate but individually.

Maybe your mates one was made of polonium?

I don't think dabbling in the Occult is that funny & I don't even agree with it. So stop.

I think I’ve seen that film on the horror channel.

It is just a board game so its fine to do if you fancy it, but if he doesn't want to don't push it.

@DragonsQuest I believe you. In fact I'd never have a rocking chair for this very reason as if it moved by itself I would shit myself. I guess you could call me a bit woo. Your tale of the hissing cat did give me a giggle though. Thanks for sharing 🐱

I like to think of myself as an atheist but after seeing the play " woman in black " I had to stick my rocking chair outside in the garden incase it started rocking on its own. I really am pathetic 🤣

It was headline news for months.

Oh.

Wait.

IncompleteSenten · 25/09/2022 17:36

Oh, or is londonrach joking?
I can't even tell any more.

I kind of want to go say candy man and bloody Mary in front of the mirror and see if they fight each other.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 25/09/2022 17:37

I got married at Chillingham. The ' torture chamber' is actually the old wine cellar, and he owner told us this himself. It's all bollocks (obvs)

If it stored prosecco, I can see how the confusion arose.

Choconut · 25/09/2022 17:48

I used to do this with my best mate when we were teens. I can confirm we're both still alive.

Chinny reckon aye?

ReneBumsWombats · 25/09/2022 17:54

There are so many horror films about Ouija boards that it could be a reference to any one of them. They all have scenes where the players are killed by an evil spirit right after the contact the spirit and just as they're about to make a significant revelation. It's a formula.

In fact, I played with an Ouija board right before I came on to post this comment. It's such bollocks. All it spelled out was - AAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!

Are you? Or are you being controlled by a demon to convince more people to do Ouija boards? 😱

Flapjacker48 · 25/09/2022 18:07

Using an ouija board is vulgar.

EbbyEbs · 24/09/2022 08:41

Well, what would YOU do?

I do like going for walks in the woods but last time a giant stag came running out in front of us and we were charged by an angry badger so I’ve been a bit put off!

Take a big bag of peanuts & get to know the badgers. A bowl of water for them & a night-time camera & you're set.

I suppose describing it as a “working class pursuit” would be the best way to discourage mumsnetters from trying it.

No it isn't making flapjacks is vulgar, there is no reason it is just because someone says it is.
