To think publishing the video of King Charles getting annoyed when signing a visitors book today is very unkind?

He has lost both parents in a short time frame, had a disagreement with his own son and taken on a very stressful job at the height of grief. AIBU to think this should not have been made public? Most people would lose their temper at a time like that in their own lives. Why publish this?

Why post about it?

YABU. Censoring bad behaviour is a step towards dictatorship.

I think it is unkind to publish it and wondered what others think. Why not? Hmm

Grief is not 'bad behaviour', he's human!

All part of the goldfish bowl. Or the Truman Show.

Unless you want to see an edited perfect version of Royalty?

No, they could have shown photos of him signing the book, just not the video. I felt very sorry for him Sad

I think he was well prepared both for his mothers death and also for his new role. She (the queen) also stepped up to the throne at a very young age having lost her own father in a much more untimely fashion and as far as I know she has always kept a very unruffled demeanour. I think he should be able to rise above petty annoyances when in public. It doesn’t show him in a good light.

bellinisurge · 13/09/2022 21:02

He's just sacked a load of staff during this period of mourning when we're not supposed to ride bikes or catch buses or whatever other nonsensical bullshit they've come out with. I was all for being respectful until people were losing their jobs and getting arrested for wrongthink.

1000yellowdaisies · 13/09/2022 21:04

Just watched the clip.....i can't even see the issue, he barely says anything. The way the papers are reporting you'd think he threw the pen across the room and upended the desk

Drivebye · 13/09/2022 21:04

Yes he's lost his mother and it must be stressful but he seems unable to control his temper. He has been raised to do role and whilst it must be difficult these outbursts unfortunately confirm what is generally thought of him.

Ladybug14 · 13/09/2022 21:06

Hes had 73 years training for this job. If he can't act with grace and dignity when the minutiae isn't to his liking.......shame on him

EntertainingandFactual · 13/09/2022 21:06

He was really snappy a few days ago when signing something else. Lots of impatient hand gestures for someone to move the inkwell out of his way. Other people just moved it themselves when they signed.

He’s a bad tempered so and so but I think the good outweighs the bad. He seems generally decent.

XelaM · 13/09/2022 21:06

Here's the video for anyone who hasn't seen it 🤓

amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/13/oh-god-i-hate-this-king-charles-expresses-frustration-over-leaking-pen

Surely at over 70 he has been well-prepared for his life of extreme privilege and paper-signings, as well as the death of his parents in their late 90's

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 13/09/2022 21:07

I must be U then. I just think when people who didn't even know her are weeping in public and people don't seem to understand that as well as being King, he and the rest of the RF were her family members and are devastated.

Exactly. It's very unkind and hyperbolic at a sensitive time for KC

He's 73 years old. In the limelight. His mother has just died. Lots meetings, public grieving. That bloody pen would be the tip of an iceberg. I don't blame him for feeling frustrated. I wouldn't be able to bear that stupid pen either after the week he has had.

carefullycourageous · 13/09/2022 21:10

I guess that he is who he is, we may as well start getting used to it.

I was also shocked by the redundancy notices Shock

ShowTime80 · 13/09/2022 21:11

At the end of the day, we never ever saw the Queen behaving in that manner, and she had her fair share of grief.

That's because the media was far, far less intrusive and more reverent for a large proportion of the Queen's reign.

I did some work with him a couple of times, I liked him and think he’s sincere, but he can be petulant so I don’t think it’s grief especially.

Anyway, it wasn’t a big thing.

The staff redundancy on the other hand… obviously it might be necessarily, but the speed is cruel and unseemly, so I’d save your pity for them.

CathyorClaire · 13/09/2022 21:13

Not surprised after the regal hissing over inconveniently placed pens a few days ago.

He's served the longest apprenticeship in history and still can't be gracious now the job's his.

Quite.
His sons were in public when they lost their mother but kept their composure.
He seems petulant and spoiled in the clip, exactly as he did before his mother died.

WeepingSomnambulist · 13/09/2022 21:14

There are loads of videos of charles making nasty comments and being short tempered. It's who he is. He is a spoilt boy who surrounded himself with yes men from young age. He just doesn't have the grace he should for this role. We might as well get used to it. It has nothing to do with his grief.
