To think publishing the video of King Charles getting annoyed when signing a visitors book today is very unkind?

He has lost both parents in a short time frame, had a disagreement with his own son and taken on a very stressful job at the height of grief. AIBU to think this should not have been made public? Most people would lose their temper at a time like that in their own lives. Why publish this?

Speaking of compassion, do you have any for the staff members whom he behaved this way towards? How do you imagine it felt for them? Charles unfortunately does not seem to have the graciousness of his mother.

They probably found it quite human. Or thought oh shit that was my job to sort the pen.

No biggie.

YABU. Censoring bad behaviour is a step towards dictatorship.

Yes, I agree. Censoring behaviour - similar to what happened to Caroline Flack - is the way to go 🙄
I mean, why should people be kind and accept that they may well behave in a similar way if they were in the same situation? Let’s just stick the knife in eh?

Horcruxe · 13/09/2022 21:23

I cant believe hes had problems with pens twice in a week.

Why cant they just give him a pen that works?

Seems to be a recurring issue.

Also at his age he might be starting with symptoms of dementia. Some of which could be irritability and aggression. Maybe he cant help himself because of his age.

elizaregina · 13/09/2022 21:23

Has prince Charles personally decided to sack load's of staff who won't be needed now?.

That was his personal idea as he rushed from a to be these past few days?

Re the pen, I'm more aghast that people can't understand his frustration!

I find it amusing.

"I bloody hate this"

Well I expect he does. The fact he doesn't even know what date it is should tell anyone with even only one empathy brain cell how much pressure he is under.

That was so clearly someone under pressure who's signed umpteen hundred documents endlessly for days whilst travelling thousands of miles and who really didn't want a leaking pen.

The straw that broke the camels back.

Well said. I can't believe anyone here would deal that well with what he's had to do over the last few days. Absolutely brutal schedule while dealing with grief. Give him a break.

Tbh if a pen leaked all over me while I was in fancy clothes I'd be annoyed

EntertainingandFactual · 13/09/2022 21:24

TBF, if someone gave me a leaky pen I’d be pretty pissed off 😡

itsgettingweird · 13/09/2022 21:24

Dactyl nacho. All whilst the national who never even met her weeps and wails.

I'm quite embarrassed to be British when they are this unempathetic.

I can't believe we are meant to be proud of everyone's reaction to her death and yet can't even allow her own son to grieve unperfectly.

beechie12 · 13/09/2022 21:25

It's the second time in a few days. He got upset at an underlying who didn't remove something quick enough during a previous signing too.

EllaBn22 · 13/09/2022 21:25

I watch Camilla in both videos and find that telling.

I had much affection for the Queen - no similar videos of her exist and she has had her share of difficult times under the lens.

Flack was facing trial for being an abuser. If she had been a man, no one would be saying "be kind". They'd be saying good riddance.

Flack'a behaviour and subsequent suicide has nothing to do with Prince Charles being filmed behaving in a manner he always behaves in.

toomuchlaundry · 13/09/2022 21:26

How can anyone be prepared for your parent’s death. My DM is slightly younger than the Queen was. I hope people won’t be expecting me to not be upset when anything happens to her as I should be prepared for her death

It must be so hard to grieve whilst having your every move examined

Give him a break he probably hasn't slept for days

This

He is a man in his seventies - he's like a cross between prince Philip and victor meldrew in this clip.

Mmhmm. Which is their job. That they get paid for. And now, more than any other time, you’d think they might not need reminding.

Snoozer11 · 13/09/2022 21:27

He hasn't stopped for almost a week, he's approaching his mid-70s, he's just lost his mother, he's being filmed almost every waking hour, it's a hugely emotional time of great pressure and now he's gone and gotten ink everywhere.

I think it says more about the people criticising him than it does about him.

amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/13/oh-god-i-hate-this-king-charles-expresses-frustration-over-leaking-pen

Surely at over 70 he has been well-prepared for his life of extreme privilege and paper-signings, as well as the death of his parents in their late 90's

Don’t be ridiculous. I knew that more than likely my parents would die before me. Everybody does. Does that mean we shouldn’t get upset or angry or rage when it happens? No one, not even a King, is immune to uncontrolled emotion at times of extreme stress.

elizaregina · 13/09/2022 21:27

He's thwarted by his pen but I think most people think it's endearing! Haven't most of us had a nasty cheap biro leak on us at some point? Or into a handbag?

He looks very pale and I imagine he's struggling to sleep.
He likes routine and it's all changed and gone.
He's not a spring chicken 🐔.

Not exactly.

He was asked to sit at a table to sign yet another document after having to follow an old fashioned proclamation publicly.

Yet at the table were the last huge documents and the pens and ink placed incorrectly. He ushered them to be moved.

Yes he was frustrated. But it's amazing people think he wouldn't be.

The man is grieving his mum.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 13/09/2022 21:28

I just lost my father, closely followed by my grandmother and at no point did my grief cause me to be rude to people, nor have public outbursts.

Charles is a spoilt old man who I doubt is relishing his new position.

carefullycourageous · 13/09/2022 21:28

Just on the pen issue - I read it was his own special pen, not a leaky biro.

ChessieFL · 13/09/2022 21:28

On the BBC the other day they said he uses his own fountain pen to sign things. If that’s true then it sounds like he was just complaining about his own pen rather than it being directed against another person.

beechie12 · 13/09/2022 21:29

Parvuli everyone should be treated with respect in the workplace.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 13/09/2022 21:23

The person they are mourning was his MOTHER! That he has been out talking to anyone, let alone being called out to, kissed and all the rest of it is pretty bloody amazing, but for you it's not good enough?! Hmm

Get a grip. The balance between meeting VIP's and the general public needs to be thought out more carefully. I stood beside elderly people who had been brought from nursing homes at 6.00am this morning. Meanwhile our king is throwing tantrums over pens and meeting the great and good indoors.

Then you are not very compassionate.

@PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog

That is not necessary, you are not the world's authority on compassion!
