Center Parcs closing for funeral

ViscountessBridgerton · 13/09/2022 12:43

Had the email to say Monday arrival delayed until Tuesday, can't get in until 4pm. 30% refund offered. From social media, it looks like people on a 7 night break are actually expected to leave at 10am on the Monday and not come back until Tuesday! People on a weekend break aren't being compensated for having to leave by 10am on the Monday.

AIBU to think wtf?!?!

Sorry but these rules are getting ridiculous. Can understand places having limited services during the funeral, but places closing for the entire day, like on Christmas day, is just ridiculous.
I made another thread saying that BBC has suspended all comedy programs for 2 weeks.
It's just all a bit totalitarian. People should be able to choose if they mourn, not have all this forced onto them. And i am saddened by the Queen's passing.

kateandme · 13/09/2022 14:10

They will be sorting how to backtrack now.no way will this go ahead after the outcry.

‘Centre Parcs’ are actually people you know. ‘They’ are made up of staff.
‘They’ will be in mourning/watching the state funeral.

So get over it. They totally made the right call. Finding staff is harder than finding guests.

As are the staff at hotels, airlines, airports, various other private and public companies, plus and more importantly the likes of the fire services, NHS, Police, power workers, those involved in broadcasting, etc etc ......

Maybe everybody in the UK should just knock off for the day, but of course that would mean no lights, no running water, no police, no TV...and stuff all internet once the servers start going down.....

TinaYouFatLard · 13/09/2022 14:12

Bloody hysterical lunacy.

kateandme · 13/09/2022 14:12

I no this is shot for EVERYONE but there is also a very big reason disabled families chose and in situ /stay put/take equipment/everything on site lodge site.and they will NOT be able logistically to leave and come back for a day.

EmmaH2022 · 13/09/2022 14:13

This is the kind of business decision that stuns me. It's not just one person's madness, there's a whole chain of senior mgmt who thought this was a good idea. Unless, in this twisted world, it's a publicity stunt?!

notenoughtogoround · 13/09/2022 14:13

We are due to go on Friday and have been offered no acknowledgement (never mind compensation) for the fact that we now cannot access any of the facilities on Monday. It’s a massive cock up and I can’t even imagine what it must be like to be staying Friday to Friday or working in their call centre and/or comms team today.

Anonymouseposter · 13/09/2022 14:13

It’s ridiculous to expect people who are there for 7 days to leave the site. Where are they supposed to go?

I think they will try to blame a "misunderstanding" among juniors.

Are we sure it’s true if they are already there?

Yes definitely. If you are due to be there Friday to Friday you have to leave at 10am Monday and aren’t allowed back into the accommodation until 4pm Tuesday.
imagine trying to get accommodation on a bank holiday Monday at this sort of notice

Roselilly36 · 13/09/2022 14:16

Strange decision, why not just close the activities, restaurants, etc whilst the funeral is on, giving staff the opportunity to watch, perhaps in one of the huge sports bars onsite and then go back to work, it’s hospitality at the end of the day, an industry that works, over Xmas, Easter, bank hols, 365 days of the year.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/09/2022 14:16

They should stay open at least for the Fri-Fri people, even if it’s with facilities closed. What on Earth are they expected to do at this short notice? People - mostly with babies and toddlers I expect in term time - will have been looking forward to this, booked time off work etc. And it’s hardly easy to decamp toddlers for one night and come back.

If I were arriving or leaving on Monday I might suck it up and be glad of the discount, but if this is in the middle of a break that’s daft.

Shit the bed!

DingleyDel · 13/09/2022 14:18

I reckon this is a decision based on practicality. A large % of their cleaners are parents with school aged kids. All schools and nursery’s are closed at short notice so they know half their cleaners won’t turn up and there’s no way a skeleton staff can clean the number of lodges for checkin at 4 pm. I’m very surprised though. Also it’s ridiculous to make guests on 7 night stay leave? That can’t be right can it? Surely they will want to stay in their lodges and watch the funeral?

No discount if you are leaving on Monday. Imagine their twitter account is getting a hammering!

WavePlant · 13/09/2022 14:19

Fucking bonkers.
i understand close the pool/food outlets on Monday, don’t ask people to bloody leave for 24hours when they stay there over Christmas. How is making people sit travelling in a car at 11am on Monday showing respect for a funeral?

FettleOfKish · 13/09/2022 14:19

I can sort of see their reasoning in pushing arrivals back to the next day, and in asking departures to leave early, but to actually ask people staying for a week to leave?!?! I work in travel and have heard some ridiculous stuff in my time but that takes all of the biscuits and the cake.

Close the outlets, close the pool, cancel activities and skip housekeeping for a day, but surely you allow people to stay in their lodges!!

I'm almost certain that the offer of enhanced pay for the day would bring out enough of a skeleton staff who aren't interested in the funeral to keep the place ticking over in terms of security / emergencies etc while everyone else is off.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 13/09/2022 14:20

I'm sure this was just what HM The Queen wanted to be remembered for.

Crying kids, ruined holidays, people out of pocket is just a perfect tribute isn't it.

WhatIsThisMad · 13/09/2022 14:20

I think it's ridiculous. I doubt the queen would have wanted this. The world has gone mad.

BradPittsLeftTit · 13/09/2022 14:20

Quite surprised it's not trending on twitter and media haven't quite picked it up yet

Being cynical I wonder if it's to do with having to pay employees bank holiday rates and it being too late to charge guests the usually extortionate bank holiday prices?

CapMarvel · 13/09/2022 14:21

There will be a u-turn on this faster than you can say "oh look, the tories have done another u-turn".

If I was going I would just refuse to leave. Fucking ridiculous. There would be plenty of staff happy to work the day in exchange for double time or something, if they can stay open Christmas day they can stay open for a funeral that a sizeable number of people do not give a shiny fuck about.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/09/2022 14:21

I didn’t know that! That’s daft as many people make the most of leaving day.

This in spades.
The one time you want the daily Mail to pick up a sad face story.
where the fuck do they expect people to go and sleep in their cars for a day?

Inklingpot · 13/09/2022 14:22

I’m amazed that, in a cost of living crisis, anyone can afford to stay at Center Parcs for seven days.
