Center Parcs closing for funeral

Had the email to say Monday arrival delayed until Tuesday, can't get in until 4pm. 30% refund offered. From social media, it looks like people on a 7 night break are actually expected to leave at 10am on the Monday and not come back until Tuesday! People on a weekend break aren't being compensated for having to leave by 10am on the Monday.

AIBU to think wtf?!?!

@BooneyBeautiful yesterday CP had told people who were on a longer (eg Fri-Fri break) that they would have to leave the site Monday 10am and not return until Tuesday - having to find their own accommodation Monday night.
Due to the media shitstorm this unleashed, they have now back tracked and are "allowing" Hmm those residents to stay on site for their break.

PearlyShamps · 14/09/2022 20:50

I wonder if they reached out to staff to see who (if any) wanted to volunteer to work that day? I would imagine that working public/Bank Holiday would involve double pay, or thereabouts. I'd be surprised if they couldn't manage to scrape together at least a skeleton staff to facilitate the usual Monday jobs (mainly check in/out; cleaning the lodges). Granted, cleaning every lodge is a mammoth task - but asking people to leave early/arrive late should be enough. Other facilities could remain closed for the majority of the day.
I think a lot of their staff would have happily worked it at overtime rates.

Apparently they’ve been told they have to stay in their lodges though - no walking about site.

I would tell them to get lost.

@PersonaNonGarter ’mourning’. Really?

we mourn for our family and people we are close to.

CP should close facilities for a few hours, let staff watch the funeral and ‘mourn’ if they want to but not turf people out of accommodation- ridiculous!

or how about CP ask their staff if anyone is willing to work and pay OT as it’s a bank holiday

PersonaNonGarter · 14/09/2022 21:25

I don’t think it is up to you @Conky1975 to decide who is allowed to feel sad for what. And to tell them it is ridiculous for doing so.

By this stage in the week it must surely be obvious even to you that the period of mourning is important to an awful lot of people. Yep, even without your permission.

This seems apt

Apologies, my DD told me that CP only do changeovers on a Monday and, silly me, I took her word for it rather than check myself. They do have Friday to Friday breaks.

Apologies, I haven't RTWT.
900 units of accomodation on the bigger Parcs, around 400 house keeping staff every Monday and Friday changeover just to turn the lodges around ready. Most of whom are contracted 9:30-2:30 on Monday and Friday only, with schools now closed (and no summer holiday clubs etc in place) it would be impossible to get the lodges ready on Monday. I'm not saying this hasn't been appallingly handled, but logistically it's a nightmare.

Housebytheseanc · 15/09/2022 05:27

The thing I don’t understand about this cleaning staff business is that if it’s true they are employed only on Mondays and Fridays, surely it’s going to be a logistical nightmare asking them to work a Tuesday - I would imagine a fair few might have other jobs/ other commitments or childcare issues on the day they don’t usually work….

to me just seems like Center Parcs thought they were doing the right thing by completely closing their doors, told staff about it and now can’t go back on their word to staff.

User642986540 · 15/09/2022 06:13

Are CP paying their staff that they have given the day off to, or just treating it like 0 hours contract and they just don't work that day

User56473 · 15/09/2022 07:18

It’s an extra day of paid leave. And if you work 9n Monday you get an extra day in lieu.

Is this referring to another post?

For many people it is neither a day of paid leave, nor a day off in lieu.

For many business who have already paid for an extra BH this year, choosing to pay their staff is crippling.

All staff are receiving an extra day of holiday, either to use Monday or on another day if they chose to work Monday

Sorry I meant that CP are giving staff a days paid leave or another day off in lieu. Clearly they can afford it as a very large business.

Housebytheseanc · 14/09/2022 16:59

@kateandme have I read your post right that you’re aware of someone being able to arrive on Monday to start their break early?

im due to arrive Monday but even after calling today they are still saying absolutely not and not looking like they will back down on this one so would be interested to hear if they’ve bent the rules for anyone else.

Yes but the child is severely disabled so transport and equipment already booked in.they are also very well known and go every time. So yes,it’s an extreme circumstance. But I don’t want them painted in a really shit light when they have been so kind to them.
