Center Parcs closing for funeral

ViscountessBridgerton · 13/09/2022 12:43

Had the email to say Monday arrival delayed until Tuesday, can't get in until 4pm. 30% refund offered. From social media, it looks like people on a 7 night break are actually expected to leave at 10am on the Monday and not come back until Tuesday! People on a weekend break aren't being compensated for having to leave by 10am on the Monday.

AIBU to think wtf?!?!

Fucking bonkers.
i understand close the pool/food outlets on Monday, don’t ask people to bloody leave for 24hours when they stay there over Christmas. How is making people sit travelling in a car at 11am on Monday showing respect for a funeral?

I've never been to CP but what would people do for food if all outlets closed all day?

also, facilities closing means partial refund surely?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/09/2022 14:22

They should just offer more money to get a sufficient skeleton staff in on the Monday. Let a business take the hit for once.

I’d happily work on Monday if someone offered me extra money to do it!

WagathaChristieMystery · 13/09/2022 14:22

Agree @BradPittsLeftTit!! This is one thread I’m hoping the media/Daily Mail actually pick up on!

@ViscountessBridgerton do you have a specific source for this, or just your email? (Which I think is proof enough!) What do you think about posting a screenshot of the bit in the email that says guests have to leave next Monday?

WavePlant · 13/09/2022 14:22

BradPittsLeftTit · 13/09/2022 14:20

Quite surprised it's not trending on twitter and media haven't quite picked it up yet

Being cynical I wonder if it's to do with having to pay employees bank holiday rates and it being too late to charge guests the usually extortionate bank holiday prices?

I’m going to keep bumping this post until it does I think!
Just crazy. It’s not as if everyone lives 20mins away.

NoMichaelNo · 13/09/2022 14:23

We are there now, due to leave on Friday and there’s already people here who aren’t meant to be leaving until next Tuesday.

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2022 14:23

That is tough on people who travelled to get there

HilarityEnsues · 13/09/2022 14:24

I don't understand the argument that the staff (on min wage or whatever they pay) deserve to watch the funeral- if people are on holiday away from home, they will have to find alternative accommodation for one night which is also staffed with people who want to watch the funeral. It's just pushing the problem onto other hotels and other staff! I'm sure there would be plenty of staff who would be happy to work most of the day, with an eye on the telly at the given time if given more money; my dd would love to get double pay rather than have a day off for starters!

Shit the bed!

Well, quite!

People who are there Friday to Friday should remain in situe.

They are paying tennents over the term of the contract they paid and currently in the cabin so cannot be evicted without legal approval, They can not forcably evict people themselves and squatters rights also stand.

Center Parcs do not want to pay staff so no one is going to be there doing rounds all day harrasing them trying to bully them off site as that defeats the point and the police certainly arent going to come and illegally evict people who are doing nothing wrong.

They should still be able to claim the refund as compensation for the closed activities too as that is part of the package.

Its much wise to refuse to leave that to take the risk of checking out/leaving the site and not being able to find accomodation elsewhere locally (which will now be a premium and fully booked) for the night.

Unfortunately for friday-monday guest who are losing a day of activities and monday onwards guests who cant check in I think theres no other option but to sue for the partial refund/compensation they are refusing to give.

I can forsee their PR manager quitting lol.

Finding staff is harder than finding guests.

Said no hospitality business ever. Get real.

antelopevalley · 13/09/2022 14:26

I would clean or staff the restaurant at my local centreparcs if they pay double. I have a paid day of work so that would be triple time, a nice earner.

justasking111 · 13/09/2022 14:26

I'd be cancelling the whole holiday the family go twice a year. We'd rebook perhaps. It's a long drive from here so we can't just go home

tenbob · 13/09/2022 14:27

@EmmaH2022

Its self catering accommodation with a central area with some themed restaurants for the days and nights you can’t be arsed to cook

so if the restaurants closed, people would just have to eat in their lodge instead of having a Bella Italia/TGI Fridays/Los Iguanas type meal out

antelopevalley · 13/09/2022 14:27

GreenWheat · 13/09/2022 14:26

Finding staff is hard when you do not pay enough and have zero-hour contracts. Make your job attractive and people will come.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 13/09/2022 14:29

Inklingpot · 13/09/2022 14:22

I’m amazed that, in a cost of living crisis, anyone can afford to stay at Center Parcs for seven days.

Oh this old shite.

You’re amazed that people have either saved up and booked this months in advanced BEFORE or they aren’t that much affected by the cost of living increase?

Whats you’re deal… but simple and amazed by the mundane or are you just being a bitter bellend?

Whydidimarryhim · 13/09/2022 14:29

Hopefully they will have the brains to re think this decision - to those agreeing they should close would you want your hospital to close for the day!!! It’s a service industry - everyone needs to get on twitter if you’ve booked that week. How moronic.

ViscountessBridgerton · 13/09/2022 14:29

@WagathaChristieMystery my email only has info about arrangements for those due to arrive on Monday but lots of people posting on Facebook etc

Spidey66 · 13/09/2022 14:29

That's mad! Fair enough closing activities etc while the funeral is on but closing the accommodation? You could either stay in the accommodation and watch the funeral, avoid it by watching Netflix, or walk round the grounds.

We're going on holiday to the Lakes Friday (self catering accommodation.) Ok we're expecting a lot of stuff to close on Monday during the funeral (or some shops all day) but we can go for a walk or drive around the scenery if we're not going to watch the funeral. I have little interest in it but understand its important to others.

Ive never been myself but like all holiday sites Im pretty sure its self catering (but also offers resteraunts, bars, takeaways on site) which means chalets/vans all have kitchens and fridges etc... for people to store and cook their own food.

Suedomin · 13/09/2022 14:30

That is ridiculous if people are already there and have to break into their holiday to leave. They don't close on other Bank Holidays.
Enforced mourning is just nonsense.

sponsabillaries · 13/09/2022 14:30

emmathedilemma · 13/09/2022 12:52

Don't you normally have to check out by 10am on Monday if you're there for the weekend? Or can you stay and use the site facilities so long as you're out of your accommodation?
Either way, it's blooming ridiculous. This country needs to get a grip on reality.

Under normal circumstances you have to vacate your lodge by 10am but you can stay on site to use the pool etc until midnight.

Stickmansmum · 13/09/2022 14:31

PersonaNonGarter · 13/09/2022 13:00

‘Centre Parcs’ are actually people you know. ‘They’ are made up of staff.
‘They’ will be in mourning/watching the state funeral.

So get over it. They totally made the right call. Finding staff is harder than finding guests.

Shocking brain wash. Can’t believe how personally people are taking the death of basically a celebrity. She was a great woman in a ridiculous institution. None of you knew her personally. None of you have any impact on your lives from her passing. It’s totally bizarre.

Decafflatteplease · 13/09/2022 14:32

They did a similar sort of thing in lockdown, if you were there for a week when it was the shorter breaks changeover day all current guests had to stay in lodges for something like 12-2pm, all the rest of the park shut eg shops playarea restaurant. I think there was a £20 voucher or something

DingleyDel · 13/09/2022 14:32

Does the ‘palace’ apply pressure on businesses to close or something? A friend of mine who runs a local festival said that when the queen goes all events would be cancelled, as in that would be standard protocol. I was at RHS Wisley when they turfed us all out on the passing of Prince Philip and they mangers there said it was on ‘order of the palace’ but I have no idea how true that is or if they were just passing the buck. Obviously CP in neither an RHS garden or a public event, I just can not fathom the decision to turf week long guests out!
