To loathe back to school photos on social media?

I'm clearly in the minority after scrolling through my Facebook feed today. Every single post on there is a photo of a child posing in their school uniform. Why? Please someone explain, I must be missing something.

Don’t look. You do you and let others do as they please.

FionnulaTheCooler · 06/09/2022 21:04

Because people like to mark the passing of time and another milestone passed for their children? What a weird and harmless thing to get upset about.

SalesMum · 06/09/2022 21:04

Because the parents want to document a new chapter in their kids lives

it’s quite normal
but if you don’t like it scroll past, unfollow or unfriend

SavoirFlair · 06/09/2022 21:04

How on Earth do you expect this to change? Is this just one of those “I hate a thing at a time when a thing is a thing “ posts that you expect lots of “ah yeah me too” chiming in?

LondonWolf · 06/09/2022 21:05

One thing that MN has taught me is that there will always be someone judging you unkindly or resentfully, no matter how innocuous your behaviour is. It's useful to know this really so you're never surprised by unexpected snark.

YABU.

MichelleScarn · 06/09/2022 21:05

Why 'loathe' it, rather strong reaction!

IMustMakeAmends · 06/09/2022 21:06

I like them! I'm not really one for social media but I do like the back to school ones.

They make me smile, their little cherubic faces all scrubbed, hair combed and clothes pressed for the first day of term. Full of promise and potential.

Swannning · 06/09/2022 21:06

YABU, mine are beyond the back to school pics now [sob] but I love seeing all the cute faces.

I've also been really cheered up to see my own photos coming up on my memories

Completely agree. Don't be daft OP. So many other things in the world much much worthy of your loathing.

tillytoodles1 · 06/09/2022 21:08

And just like that....

Haudyourwheesht · 06/09/2022 21:08

I really don't understand why someone (who uses social media) would become so incensed about something so innocuous.

Legoninjago1 · 06/09/2022 21:08

KitsyWitsy · 06/09/2022 21:09

I like seeing the children in my family and my friend’s kids personally.

scrivette · 06/09/2022 21:09

I like seeing them looking so smart and knowing that they won't look like that in a couple of days!

allinatizzy · 06/09/2022 21:09

Seems pretty obvious why they do it. Did you really not understand why?

35965a · 06/09/2022 21:10

I like seeing them.

TrumpIsAnIdiot · 06/09/2022 21:10

YABU

Carry on scrolling if you don't like it.
Parents like to take pictures of proud moments and little ones starting back at school is such a moment.

Why document on social media though? That's what I don't understand. I take photos of my children, they are kept and we look back on them often, especially a year on, 2 years on etc. I share these photos with my family and close friends, why share with hundreds of people?

I love it!

onemouseplace · 06/09/2022 21:11

I’m a miserable old cynical curmudgeon about most things, but I really enjoy the back to school photos.

brookstar · 06/09/2022 21:11

What a ridiculous overreaction, just scroll past or avoid Facebook for a couple of days 🤷🏼‍♀️

Same. Normally most of the kid posts on FB make me scroll by. But I get a proper lump in my throat at first day at school photos. Reminds me of my own kids standing up so straight and proud in their school uniforms three decades ago.

sniffle

SugarNspices · 06/09/2022 21:11

Misery guts

ShaneTwane · 06/09/2022 21:12

Whats funny is i do believe many on mn don't understand what social media is ir how it works particularly Facebook where its expected to have family and friends on it.

Fyi its a platform where you share parts of your life with family and friends in the form of photos and comments/statuses.
These life events come in many forms such as first day at school photos, wedding photos, anniversary posts and most hated of all on mn.... pregnancy and birth announcements.

Honestly the amount of posts on here daily of people ranting and moaning about people sharing stuff on Facebook genuinely makes me question why on earth these posters have facebook at all and what they think its for .

YoSofi · 06/09/2022 21:12

What do you think social media should be used for?
