I'm clearly in the minority after scrolling through my Facebook feed today. Every single post on there is a photo of a child posing in their school uniform. Why? Please someone explain, I must be missing something.

Surprise, surprise people are posting pictures of their kids on social media !

That's exactly what it's for. If you don't want to keep up with what people are doing don't go on social media .....

Why document on social media though? That's what I don't understand. I take photos of my children, they are kept and we look back on them often, especially a year on, 2 years on etc. I share these photos with my family and close friends, why share with hundreds of people?

Why not? And it may not be hundreds of people if they only have a few friends.

brookstar · 06/09/2022 21:12

Why document on social media though?

Why not. It doesn't hurt anyone.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/09/2022 21:13

It's a lovely time stamp of the children of friends and family. A memento. I love the sweep of early September smiles in front of their front doors. It's cheery.

Maybe you are just a bit of a misery?

Because I’m enormously fond of friends who I see at most once a year and it’s lovely to see all their DC getting ready for the new school year…but I wouldn’t spam them directly with photos…with social media I’m giving them the choice to engage (or not!).

ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat · 06/09/2022 21:13

I don't have "hundreds" of people on SM and my settings are private. We live a long way from most friends and family and they like seeing them. That's it really, not complicated.

I dont have hundreds of people, I have close friends and family and that's it. You are being unreasonable and a bit of a misery. People don't have to post what you want on their personal social media. If you don't like it, delete them.

allinatizzy · 06/09/2022 21:09

Seems pretty obvious why they do it. Did you really not understand why?

Yes! Well I think I do know the real reason why ...to get lots of likes

Because people rarely live in the same area as their entire family these days. Mine are spread from Canada to Australia and everywhere in between.

Social media makes it easy to share pics of dd with everyone e rather than wasting time I don't have spare sending individual. Essages to every person who will want to see it.

You do you and let others do them and stop being so bloody judgemental.

5zeds · 06/09/2022 21:14

I share these photos with my family and close friends, why share with hundreds of people? well I have my friends and family on fb NOT hundreds of people. Why do you “friend” people you’re not friends with?

Who says they are sharing with hundreds of people?
I don't have hundreds of people on Facebook. Just you know....friends and family.

Mexicansky · 06/09/2022 21:14

Why share anything on social media??

Maladicta · 06/09/2022 21:14

Because I live a long way from my family and it's an easy thing to do, plus my kids enjoy looking back at how they've changed over the years. As another poster said, if you don't like it, don't look. There are probably plenty of other things you could justifiably get more aerated about these days...

Abraxan · 06/09/2022 21:14

What do you use your social media for, blueskyeve?

ShanghaiDiva · 06/09/2022 21:15

I like them. We lived overseas for 25 years and I like seeing children I knew as toddlers starting sixth form.

But family and close friends is my Facebook there’s not hundreds in my family either? So unless you send pictures via carrier pigeon I’m not sure how you sending it via WhatsApp or a.n.other and me putting it on Facebook is any different?

Qnicey · 06/09/2022 21:15

Oh I LOVE them.
All those oversized blazers. Nervous grins. Children I haven't seen for a year getting taller and more grown up. Proud parents marking the passage of time as their babies grow up.

It's sweet and it makes me smile.

Erm, that's the whole point of social media!

YABU and a bit weird. And I say that as someone who didn't put their kids school photos on FB.

A580Hojas · 06/09/2022 21:16

Yabu to loathe them. What a crazy extreme reaction. It's hardly offensive!

blueskyeve · 06/09/2022 21:16

brookstar · 06/09/2022 21:11

What a ridiculous overreaction, just scroll past or avoid Facebook for a couple of days 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don't often go n Facebook, just happened to log on tonight. I was overwhelmed by the constant photos.

But yes, it does appear I am BU here. Don't know why it bothers me so much?

These photos are literally the only reason I'm on facebook. I love watching the children of friends, dear and distant, grow over the years. Given they're only once a year, I find them touching, endearing, and heartwarming. I don't want to know then ins and outs of anyone's life. Once a year is plenty, especially when they're looking their tip top best.

Because that’s where I choose to share it. It’s my SM and you can scroll past. It shows me memories each year and it’s easy online digital storage too in case of lost phones etc.

I personally love seeing back to school pics. It beats the judgey crap others post and it’s lovely to see these occasions which are special to the parents and children.

I think you should edit who you follow on SM tbh as the issue is yours.

DobbyHasASock · 06/09/2022 21:17

Just be careful what you share.
Named child, open profile, in uniform, by their front door or street sign is not good internet safety.

Abraxan · 06/09/2022 21:17

I only have family and friends, people I actually know and like, on my social media. I have regular culls to remove people I no longer really know, etc.

Dd is too old for school now but I enjoy seeing the photographs of my family and friend's children smiling, looking forward to the return of school.
