To loathe back to school photos on social media?

I'm clearly in the minority after scrolling through my Facebook feed today. Every single post on there is a photo of a child posing in their school uniform. Why? Please someone explain, I must be missing something.

why share with hundreds of people?

Only 23 people can see my profile/images.

MomwasCasual · 06/09/2022 21:19

Of all the things I don't particularly like seeing on my social media feeds, Back to School pics are NOT one of them.

The people I have on my SM who share back to school pics, are the people I love, and the people I like very much.

Why on earth would I be irritated by seeing their kids progress pics? And if they get a lot of 'likes', well lovely! That means other people love them too.

I actually think that if something like this get on your tits, that says a world about you as a person.

What do you use your social media for, blueskyeve?

Mainly local Facebook groups

OP posts:
Darbs76 · 06/09/2022 21:19

Because I like to see them in my memories in future and I use FB to store photos. Don’t bother using social media if you dislike this kind of thing as that’s what it’s there for

Just be careful what you share.
Named child, open profile, in uniform, by their front door or street sign is not good internet safety.

I think many people are incredibly naive in some of the posts they display of their children and don't realise how many of these images will be used.

WorkCleanRepeat · 06/09/2022 21:20

I'd imagine it's to share with family members, and because it's nice when the memories pop up a few years later.

I love seeing them, but I know plenty of people that hate it. Usually the same people that hate holiday pictures.

I do agree with this.

YABU, and I am someone who has never posted a pic of my kids - but people can do as they like and this is pretty innocuous.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 06/09/2022 21:22

If you don't like it, scroll on. I have family abroad and we use Facebook to share events like this. People can share whatever they like. I'd just hope their Facebooks are locked down.

I do 100% agree with this - I think some people are pretty reckless with how much info they share on open profiles.

bodie1890 · 06/09/2022 21:23

Isn't the whole point of facebook to share your photos/ life events with friends and family?

Abraxan · 06/09/2022 21:23

So you don't post anything yourself on social media?

mumofthemonsters808 · 06/09/2022 21:24

You’ve got to be interested in the people you are friends with, I like seeing my actual friends kids in their uniform as I know these children. Linda who I sat next to in primary school many years ago whose kids I do not know from Adam I just scroll past.If I’m in a good mood I’ll just click like without even looking properly.

I don’t do it personally, I take pictures but I’m not comfortable with them floating about to all and sundry.

Underroad · 06/09/2022 21:25

I am usually very grumpy (I get especially irate about “and just like that…” posts on FB/Instagram), but I unashamedly love back to school photos. I really really like seeing all my friends children standing by their front doors in their school uniform every September. It honestly makes me feel happy.

FelicityFidget · 06/09/2022 21:25

It's nice to see the children of my friends who I don't see often or who live in different parts of the country.

You sound like a fucking joy sponge.

I think social media may not be for you tbh!

GrasssInPocket · 06/09/2022 21:29

blueskyeve · 06/09/2022 21:11

Why document on social media though? That's what I don't understand. I take photos of my children, they are kept and we look back on them often, especially a year on, 2 years on etc. I share these photos with my family and close friends, why share with hundreds of people?

Errm - maybe because lots of us have our family and close friends on social media, and that may be the only way they'll find out unless we make a point of e-mailing them all individually? Just scroll past if you don't like it!

brookstar · 06/09/2022 21:30

The whole point of social media is to share aspects of your life.
If everyone just posted nothing like you OP then there would be no social media!

Goldbar · 06/09/2022 21:32

It's better than those Christmas photos of kids posing next to a mountain of Christmas gifts.

Topgub · 06/09/2022 21:33

You don't appear to understand what Facebook is about.

Has someone said its a peadophile risk yet?

🙄

blueskyeve · 06/09/2022 21:35

Ok, ok. I'm clearly being unreasonable. I don't really know why it bothers me, it I just does. Sorry if I've offended some of you. I'm going to start looking at it the way lots of you do, as a happy moment for the poster.

Most of the photos are of children I don't know that well (kids of people I used to work with, went to school with etc.) but one photo did make me smile, my cousins little one. Think I might need to unfriend a few people (I've got about 400 friends) and just have family and closer friends on there.

Seriously though, why do you think this bothers me so much?

OP posts:
Fizbosshoes · 06/09/2022 21:36

I was looking at all the back to school photos on fb today (I posted one of DS - with his permission, DD didn't want me to share a pic) and I was thinking I bet MN disapproves of back to school pics !!
Social media is a platform for sharing things with others. It's all optional.(in terms of sharing or viewing)
I'm not sure what is deemed acceptable to share as I've seen people complain about
-baby scans

  • baby pics
-holiday pics
  • uni graduations
-achievements
  • children
-children's achievements
  • back to school pics

...what are the acceptable things to share? (possibly pets?) My fb feed would be virtually empty apart from a few friends who share batshit conspiracy theories - I'd rather see their back to school pics!
