Fish head for dinner

Myleftbigtoe · 04/09/2022 19:34

Saw this for sale in Morrisons yesterday. Still can't decide if serving up my family fish heads is gross or knowing that we should be eating more sustainably this is a great way of reducing food waste.

YABU - sustainable and a very cheap, good quality form of protein. Lots of lovely fish head recipes online.
YANBU - the eyes, salmon tongue... brains🤢

No idea, but very intrigued (Envy) to know from anyone what fish brains are like.

Meraas · 04/09/2022 19:36

Apparently we’ll all be eating insects for protein in years to come, so a bit of fish head soup is good practice, I say.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 04/09/2022 19:36

For making fish stock?

Subbaxeo · 04/09/2022 19:37

For a cat?

Helenloveslee4eva · 04/09/2022 19:37

I think it’s for stock or dogs / cats

ExtraOnion · 04/09/2022 19:37

It will be used for stock - better than it being thrown away

DenholmElliot1 · 04/09/2022 19:37

I'd say that was for making home made fish stock too

AmbushedByCake1 · 04/09/2022 19:39

For making fish head soup 🍜

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 04/09/2022 19:40

I was going to say for soup, but stock makes sense. Besides, some people are more adventurous with their cooking than others.

mountainsunsets · 04/09/2022 19:40

For stock or for raw-feeding dogs and cats.

Hillsidehigh · 04/09/2022 19:40

Cat

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 04/09/2022 19:40

Yep, it’ll be for stock.

TheFlis12345 · 04/09/2022 19:41

Morrisons are brilliant at reducing food waste like this, they are the only supermarket I am aware of that sell beef and lamb bones, our dog loves them! It also saves them money on not having to pay for meat waste removal so their prices always seem to be lower.

picklemewalnuts · 04/09/2022 19:41

Fish head curry. Very popular

Crotonifolia · 04/09/2022 19:41

I don't eat fish, but I suppose if you do eat it, using the whole fish is of course better than just the prime bits. Presumably v good for the basis of a soup.

QuestionableMouse · 04/09/2022 19:41

I buy them for my cat!

I'll also add the flavour that'll bring to a fish curry is out of this world. It elevates the dish to a next level.

Numerous forms of this are very popular in the fish eating Bengali cuisine in India and Bangladesh. Nothing gross about it.

Natsku · 04/09/2022 19:43

Make fish head soup with it, that's what I used to do with the head (and bones) when I'd get a fish filleted at the fish counter, I'd ask to keep them instead of them throwing them away.

The cheeks are the best part of the fish. And some people are a fan of the brains.

StopGo · 04/09/2022 19:43

Work means I'm occasionally in Aldershot which has a thriving Nepalese community. They queue up for fish heads and turn them into amazing meals.

Hotandbothereds · 04/09/2022 19:44

If they sold them in my supermarket I’d pick them up for the dog, or for stock - much better than simply being thrown away.

LittleMG · 04/09/2022 19:45

That is truly disgusting. I mean who could eat that? But you are right we have become way to wasteful in our society. If you eat meat maybe you need to be more open? I wouldn’t eat that in a million years but I don’t eat meat.

This is what I thought too.

TwoMonthsOff · 04/09/2022 19:47

If I had a pet otter I’d buy it 🦦
