Unhappy with new Roman Blinds - thoughts..?

I had new roman blinds fitted today in my kitchen. I've had them previously in my last house and have always loved the look of them. After the fitters left I rolled them down. To me they don't look right (ie no visible pleating/folds you usually get with romans even when they are down)
It looks like a giant sheet hanging over my window, or as my husband put it "like a projector screen' 😟. I've attached a pic, but just wanted thoughts/advice. Would you be happy?
I'll probably call them tomorrow, but wondering if I'm being unreasonable and you think they look OK??? Ps sorry about the pile of dishes 🤣

From the thumbnail I thought it was a huge piece of hessian tacked onto the wall. Awful!

BruceAndNosh · 29/08/2022 23:37

A standard Roman blind does not have pleats when it is down.
There may be crease marks from the folds but when down it is usually a flat panel of fabric

Penguintears · 29/08/2022 23:38

Well, you have chosen a very plain design and very plain/sackcloth colour. What did you think it would look like? (Not being mean, just wondering what you expected when you ordered this style?)

Penguintears · 29/08/2022 23:39

PS love your pendant lights!

BruceAndNosh · 29/08/2022 23:39

I understand why you're unhappy as it's a big block of plain fabric but that's what you chose. Large roman blinds look best with a patterned fabric

Agree. My roman blinds ate flat once down and only have the ‘creases’ when pulled up. All the ones I have seen have been the same.

Septemberslooming · 29/08/2022 23:39

I'm sure they look much better when they're pulled up, do you have to let them down so far when they're closed.I think the colour's quite attractive and you have a really stylish kitchen, I'm not sure how else a fully unfolded blind could look

I wanted a sack cloth/hessian colour. The colour is not in question, I'm asking if there should be pleats/folds when down. Having flowers all over it wouldn't make a difference would it really, but thanks for your help 🤣

Roman blinds don’t usually have folds when they’re fully down.

inchoff · 29/08/2022 23:41

I don’t mind it - it looks fine but the space could look better. The colour is very parcel packaging, maybe a slightly different tone would fit better. I think it could look a bit more tailored to the space if they were fitted inside the window.

I thought it would look more pleated like this

Nope they do not have folds when rolled down. That’s the design. Like the attached pictures.

EthicalNonMahogany · 29/08/2022 23:44

Yeah it's pleated when it's up, flat when it's down! I think you have gone for one big single one when perhaps several smaller might have been better. There's no problem with the blind itself it's a lovely job.

inchoff · 29/08/2022 23:44

I think the pleats you want are for certain designs/materials, not all Roman blinds will look like that. Some will just be plain fabric

EthicalNonMahogany · 29/08/2022 23:44

Don't call them - they've done nothing wrong!

NCHammer2022 · 29/08/2022 23:46

Well presumably it will be folded when it’s up? Like the pictures?

DenholmElliot1 · 29/08/2022 23:47

I always thought Roman Blinds were designed NOT to be pulled all the way down, ie, for decoration only. otherwise they don't look very nice, which is what you're obviously saying.

figmaofmyimagination · 29/08/2022 23:49

You do sometimes get Roman blinds with horizontal seams between sections, like some of these:

BruceAndNosh · 29/08/2022 23:50

A hobbled roman blind retains visible pleats when down but they are very bulky when pulled up

Whatup · 29/08/2022 23:50

Im in the middle of a kitchen remodel and im jealous. Its endless like im never going to have a nice house again! Thats a very nice kitchen i love everything about it just pair the blinds with some chic rustic accessories. Rough linen napkins and cement candle holders. Dont forget some decorative rocks;)

LittleBearPad · 29/08/2022 23:51

But that’s what Roman blinds look like when they are down?
Confused

Whatup · 29/08/2022 23:53

Maybe have it half way up and put some privacy frosting on the bottom of the window?

figmaofmyimagination · 29/08/2022 23:53

Ah Bruce is right- its a hobbled roman blind that retains its pleats even when down. I knew there was a name for it!

BruceAndNosh · 29/08/2022 23:53

BTW your kitchen is gorgeous!

ivykaty44 · 29/08/2022 23:54

I had Roman blinds in a bedroom and this is what they looked like down. I didn’t care for the effect so had them made into curtains - mine were a salmon colour and plain.

your blinds look correct, it’s how they are
