Naice house bingo!

GrahameSylvia · 26/08/2022 17:01

House hunting at the moment and have noticed just how incredibly similarly all the naice houses are decorated. Especially in the posher bits of London, Manchester, York, Oxford etc.

Thought I’d invent a little game of house bingo to see how widespread this style really is and whose house is the dreamiest? Post your score / thoughts….

1 point for:
Exposed wood floors
Shaker kitchen
Patterned tiles on bathroom floor
Cacti
Bi fold doors
Kitchen island
Berber rug

2 points for:
Herringbone parquet floors
Petrol / navy blue kitchen cupboards
Brass / copper handles
Roll top bath
Fiddle leaf fig
Velvet sofas
Rattan
Pale / plaster pink walls

3 points for:
Crittall doors / windows
Botanical illustration prints
Double fridge freezer
Inbuilt wine rack
Pizza oven / big green egg barbecue
Tasteful arrangement of dried flowers and grasses in earthenware / terracotta jug - 5 bonus points if the jug is one you made yourself at pottery class

Posting in AIBU for traffic but also because I realise this is a bit of a dickish / unreasonable thing for me to post, especially when I too have drunk the cool aid and inherently think this stuff is lovely even though I can see a clever mix of Instagram algorithms and Rightmove has made me think that

I don’t even have a posh house at all and I ticked 80% of those boxes 🤦‍♀️

PriamFarrl · 26/08/2022 17:03

I don’t have any of those things.

Hotandbothereds · 26/08/2022 17:04

PriamFarrl · 26/08/2022 17:03

I don’t have any of those things.

Maybe you don’t have a ‘naice’ house then, sos.

(joke)

Bluedabadeeba · 26/08/2022 17:06

To be honest, not really sure what most of those words mean! 🤔

10HailMarys · 26/08/2022 17:06

PriamFarrl · 26/08/2022 17:03

I don’t have any of those things.

Are you expecting a medal?

PickAChew · 26/08/2022 17:09

We have a plaster pink wall but that is because we haven't painted it, yet 🤣

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 26/08/2022 17:11

I’m pleased about the dried flowers and the diy jugs, cos I’ve got rather too many of them ; some of the dried things are sprayed purple , silver and blue….is that extra points or a deduction?

i don’t have botanical prints but I have got an arch made out of Marianne North colouring book flowers in the kitchen ( it was boring when we moved in so….) I know this is outing but who cares.

I've also got a Pompeian frescoed dining room, much admired by the ambulance men who came to tend to MIL recently,. I expect a buyer would paint over that.

I love Instagram home accounts.

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2022 17:21

Haven't got any of those things.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 26/08/2022 17:22

Bunting in kids' rooms.

Bunce1 · 26/08/2022 17:22

Yes I have some of these things! Some came with the house (thank you previous owner) and some we have added in.

I hope my house also has enough interesting bits and bobs and some old furniture to make it look stylish/eclectic rather than instagrammy. Yikes.

KohlaParasaurus · 26/08/2022 17:26

I am absolved of naiceness. I have some cacti but only because the daughter they belong to is in an "away" phase of the boomerang cycle, and a not very useful kitchen island in a kitchen that isn't big enough for an island.

Golfwithfriends · 26/08/2022 17:26

I only scored 2! Guess ours isn't very naice then 😂

Surtsey · 26/08/2022 17:26

I scored a whole 2 points. One point for the shaker kitchen, and the other for the cactus, which isn't all that naice, it has googly eyes and a red pompom nose stuck to it, poor thing (it's not mine btw, it belongs to dd).

10HailMarys · 26/08/2022 17:06

Are you expecting a medal?

Ooh, yes please! I'm not that poster, but I don't have any of those things either. Always happy to receive a medal.

2reefsin30knots · 26/08/2022 17:30

Oh, I've got ALL the 1 pointers but no 2 or 3 pointers. I think that must mean we are mediocre at naice!

TBF we live in a tied house so nothing structural or paint-wise is our choice, so I have no skin in the game. 😅

FuzzyPuffling · 26/08/2022 17:31

I think this is a all a bit snarky.

Have what you want/like in your house, but there's no need to score it.

MinnieMouseclubhouse · 26/08/2022 17:31

We have made some efforts towards "naice", but the house remains generally tatty.

I recognise most of this stuff, especially the crittall and herringbone parquet (neither of which we be can be afford). No shaker kitchens round here though, it's all modern handless.

KylieCharlene · 26/08/2022 17:34

I expected no less

KohlaParasaurus · 26/08/2022 17:35

10HailMarys · 26/08/2022 17:06

Are you expecting a medal?

I'm also not this poster, but a recreational running habit means that I'm well sorted for medals, thanks😉Do you get points off for having race medals hanging from all the cupboard door handles and curtain tieback holders and newel posts?

MistyGreenAndBlue · 26/08/2022 17:36

I get one point for a bi fold door. It's on the bathroom to save space Grin and was here when we moved in.

My home isn't naice. It's much more interesting than that.

I call my style "faded grandeur" a modern twist on the Renaissance and Victorian styles.

Yes I'm weird. And I don't care either. My very modern mum hates it all. 😂

Brogues · 26/08/2022 17:36

Hardly any points from your list but I think my house is v naice.

shiningstar2 · 26/08/2022 17:39

I have a small inbuilt wine rack in a kitchen which has seen better days

I don't have any points either...I await my medal.

I LOVE the sound of your fresco. Sounds like my kind of thing. I painted my archways next to the chimney breast with murals. Not the same obviously but I love a bit of large art Grin
