Naice house bingo!

GrahameSylvia · 26/08/2022 17:01

House hunting at the moment and have noticed just how incredibly similarly all the naice houses are decorated. Especially in the posher bits of London, Manchester, York, Oxford etc.

Thought I’d invent a little game of house bingo to see how widespread this style really is and whose house is the dreamiest? Post your score / thoughts….

1 point for:
Exposed wood floors
Shaker kitchen
Patterned tiles on bathroom floor
Cacti
Bi fold doors
Kitchen island
Berber rug

2 points for:
Herringbone parquet floors
Petrol / navy blue kitchen cupboards
Brass / copper handles
Roll top bath
Fiddle leaf fig
Velvet sofas
Rattan
Pale / plaster pink walls

3 points for:
Crittall doors / windows
Botanical illustration prints
Double fridge freezer
Inbuilt wine rack
Pizza oven / big green egg barbecue
Tasteful arrangement of dried flowers and grasses in earthenware / terracotta jug - 5 bonus points if the jug is one you made yourself at pottery class

Posting in AIBU for traffic but also because I realise this is a bit of a dickish / unreasonable thing for me to post, especially when I too have drunk the cool aid and inherently think this stuff is lovely even though I can see a clever mix of Instagram algorithms and Rightmove has made me think that

@Skelligsfeathers

This house is very “naice”. Doesn’t tick all the boxes, no posh barbecue, kitchen not blue though it does get ten extra bonus points for the five (FIVE) cream coloured le creuset’s in the kitchen.

A very naice house

That'll do naicely. But it needs a much much bigger garden to be fully acceptable.

I was surprised that Le Creuset didn't feature on bingo list.

Oh my goodness, now I’ve got more points! Do I get a bonus for my Ercol and Parker Knoll being inherited from my parents?

catwomando · 27/08/2022 12:04

I score 12, but then I do live in a wanky part of London so will definitely have been contaminated. 😬

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 27/08/2022 12:20

I got 3 for fridge freezer! It's only two people in our house too and I keep thinking we don't actually need one that size, but both of us like the space for more booze for my husband so meh it stays. 😂Maybe if we eventually move to a bigger house, he can have a drinks fridge in the utility room, we will be so posh then!

Liana89 · 27/08/2022 12:25

I got 25 points with the special bonus of dried flowers in jugs made by myself in a pottery class🙈 Your list made me chuckle, very observant! We're so predictable 😂

AgnestaVipers · 27/08/2022 12:26

I class my front porch as a boot room. Doesn't everybody?

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 27/08/2022 12:31

Fiddle-leaf figs are absolute bastards to keep alive so I have a grudging respect / envy of anyone who manages to keep one of the really big Instagram specimens going.

littlepeas · 27/08/2022 09:10

I get 7 but am wondering whether I deserve bonus points for a pale pink shaker kitchen 😂.

@littlepeas yes five and half naice points for the pale pink shaker kitchen, rising to six and a half if the paint is from Farrow and Ball or Little Greene

UniBallEye · 27/08/2022 17:22

I really like the house in the link shared!!
We have a very similar colour scheme

kavalkada · 27/08/2022 17:58

I scored two points, for shaker kitchen and exposed wood floors. Still, I love my home, despite not being posh.

I LOVE the sound of your fresco. Sounds like my kind of thing. I painted my archways next to the chimney breast with murals. Not the same obviously but I love a bit of large art Grin

Thank you. I tend to get bored in the winter months so it’s out with the paintbrush. This spring it was false masonry in the hall. I blame a mother who let me paint one wall in my bedroom with whatever I wanted, and the BF who gave me the Jocasta Innés book on paint finishes. It’s easier than being an artist but still a bit artistic. (Maslow)

I have none of these but I would love a kitchen island, pizza oven, wine rack and bi fold doors.

I don't have botanical prints but I do have fresh flowers in a glass vase and fake plants dotted around.

No pink walls but grey walls with light pink accessories.

I love the look of exposed wood floors but I prefer carpet for cosiness. Sadly I have battered laminate and leather sofas which are the opposite of cosy but with 2 small hooligans and a cat it's practically over cosiness for now.

If money was no object I would have a big kitchen with white cabinets, sky lights, exposed wood floor with some fake greenery, island, table, sofa and bi fold doors. Wine fridge and rack, maybe a gin fridge too... big double oven at eye level...

Big lounge following a similar colour scheme with some baby blue and pink thrown in, exposed wood floor with a big rug, fabric sofas and bi fold doors leading onto the garden but there must be a door between the kitchen and lounge.

Separately I would have a small snug with dark purple and bright pink as a throwback to my teenage years because you can't remove all of the alternative out of me.

Alas it's all very unlikely but my house is designed to my taste and not what is fashionable.

rosegoldwatcher · 27/08/2022 18:59

Nil points for me!

We DO need to update - but I'm not sure how many of the ubiquitous desirable features listed would make it into our home.

I do have a pang for a kitchen island though!

PlumPudd · 26/08/2022 20:59

I also have four of these @Notlosinganyweight, so I can join in both bingos

Sadly I got more points in this list.
Wish I had quite a few things in the first (I only have the cacti).
Don't get why people think it's mocking, I would love some of these things if I could afford them.

UniBallEye · 28/08/2022 12:22

Where do we stand on Belfast sinks (huge double with integrated draining board) & butchers blocks?
Plus or minus points ?
