Naice house bingo!

GrahameSylvia · 26/08/2022 17:01

House hunting at the moment and have noticed just how incredibly similarly all the naice houses are decorated. Especially in the posher bits of London, Manchester, York, Oxford etc.

Thought I’d invent a little game of house bingo to see how widespread this style really is and whose house is the dreamiest? Post your score / thoughts….

1 point for:
Exposed wood floors
Shaker kitchen
Patterned tiles on bathroom floor
Cacti
Bi fold doors
Kitchen island
Berber rug

2 points for:
Herringbone parquet floors
Petrol / navy blue kitchen cupboards
Brass / copper handles
Roll top bath
Fiddle leaf fig
Velvet sofas
Rattan
Pale / plaster pink walls

3 points for:
Crittall doors / windows
Botanical illustration prints
Double fridge freezer
Inbuilt wine rack
Pizza oven / big green egg barbecue
Tasteful arrangement of dried flowers and grasses in earthenware / terracotta jug - 5 bonus points if the jug is one you made yourself at pottery class

Posting in AIBU for traffic but also because I realise this is a bit of a dickish / unreasonable thing for me to post, especially when I too have drunk the cool aid and inherently think this stuff is lovely even though I can see a clever mix of Instagram algorithms and Rightmove has made me think that

Unfinished ...but nothing else. Haven't even heard of some of these things 🤣🤔

CactusBlossom · 26/08/2022 17:41

Can't abide shaker kitchens and rattan furniture!

Chocolatelabradorsarethebest · 26/08/2022 17:42

I agree, it’s another ‘let’s mock the middle class (a Mumsnet obsession) or those with naicer (that term makes my teeth itch) things’ thread. There seem to be more and more on here recently.

Would it be appropriate to have a ‘I’m looking at cheap houses at the moment and why are all poor peoples house the same. Points for:

net curtains
flying ducks on the wall
an old sofa in the garden
a car with no wheels up on bricks in the drive

(I’m basing this on Daisy and Onslows house having just watched an episode of Keeping Up Appearances!)

pinkyredrose · 26/08/2022 17:44

Only 2 points here. Hopefully I'm still a worthwhile member of society!

Novum · 26/08/2022 17:45

Add points for:

Stone floor tiles in kitchen and hallway
Underfloor heating
Rainfall shower
En suite
Wood-burning stove
Pantry

Sadly even with that expansion, we only have one of the items on the list.

ElBandito · 26/08/2022 17:46

I thought I didn't have any points, then I realised I was sitting on a rattan sofa 😅

Brogues · 26/08/2022 17:47

Ooh I’m getting a couple more points with the expanded list (and also have flying ducks on the wall @Chocolatelabradorsarethebest in the form of Mulberry wallpaper natch).

I get one point for a bi fold door. It's on the bathroom to save space Grin and was here when we moved in.
My home isn't naice. It's much more interesting than that.
I call my style "faded grandeur" a modern twist on the Renaissance and Victorian styles.
Yes I'm weird. And I don't care either. My very modern mum hates it all. 😂

I love this

Bunce1 · 26/08/2022 17:50

Bunting in kids' rooms.

Two points if it’s bunting AND a mini tepee

I think wooden floors / hard floors have just kinda replaced carpet as standard though? It’s not naice so much as average.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 26/08/2022 17:51

Well, I get bingo then.

I am the most basic of all basic Instagram bitches 🤣

NotMeNoNo · 26/08/2022 17:51

Ha! No points.
To be fair we haven't done anything here since moving in 5 years ago.
I've made over two houses and I'm over it unless its going to look like a good George Clarke episode.

HappyHappyHermit · 26/08/2022 17:52

Ah we score two, we have a shaker kitchen (not blue though!) and a roll too bath. We are definitely not posh, but we have plenty of room in the garden for ducks which was always my dream so I'm happy!

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2022 17:52

My wine goes in the cupboard or fridge
I do own a tiny little fridge just for alcohol, so I guess I can have a point for this ?
Or too tacky ? ( it also has beers in it )

ShowOfHands · 26/08/2022 17:52

I score 20.

I'm working class and live in a 3 bed semi.

missbunnyrabbit · 26/08/2022 17:52

I live on Rightmove and can confirm all that! New builds are often decorated in this way. It's the fashion 😅

I’m pleased about the dried flowers and the diy jugs, cos I’ve got rather too many of them ; some of the dried things are sprayed purple , silver and blue….is that extra points or a deduction?

i don’t have botanical prints but I have got an arch made out of Marianne North colouring book flowers in the kitchen ( it was boring when we moved in so….) I know this is outing but who cares.

I've also got a Pompeian frescoed dining room, much admired by the ambulance men who came to tend to MIL recently,. I expect a buyer would paint over that.

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen

Your fresco sounds amazing.

Please post some close ups like they have in books about Pompeii?

HavfrueDenizKisi · 26/08/2022 17:55

I also score 20. Boom 💥

It’s gentle affectionate mockery though @Chocolatelabradorsarethebest. I score fairly highly on this list and if I could afford crittall doors and herringbone floors I’d most likely get them in a flash.

As the child of people who ascended to the middle classes by the skin of their teeth I know there’s nothing wrong with wanting a nicer life for yourself.

You basing your idea of what a “cheap house” looks like on Keeping Up Appearances is also a bit mocking no? Suggests that you have not been in a real life cheap house.

howdidigethere · 26/08/2022 17:59

I used to have crittall windows (they weren't nice) and now have a parquet floor which has seen better days. Am I going downhill fast?

You win @Allthegoodnamesarechosen!

Surtsey · 26/08/2022 17:26

I scored a whole 2 points. One point for the shaker kitchen, and the other for the cactus, which isn't all that naice, it has googly eyes and a red pompom nose stuck to it, poor thing (it's not mine btw, it belongs to dd).

@Surtsey i think it all depends on whether the cactus’ googly eyes are “ironic” or not.

If yes - 15 bonus naice points for you, congratulations

If no - nul points, down to the bottom of the naice league tables

FrenchFancie · 26/08/2022 18:09

0 points for me although we just moved into a horribly dated rental house (pastas green bathroom suite anyone?).

i am angling for a pizza oven for my birthday though…..

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 26/08/2022 18:20

Don't have any of those things

MoodyTwo · 26/08/2022 19:35

Oh no! I only have 1 point, I thought I had a naice house 😂
