Naice house bingo!

GrahameSylvia · 26/08/2022 17:01

House hunting at the moment and have noticed just how incredibly similarly all the naice houses are decorated. Especially in the posher bits of London, Manchester, York, Oxford etc.

Thought I’d invent a little game of house bingo to see how widespread this style really is and whose house is the dreamiest? Post your score / thoughts….

1 point for:
Exposed wood floors
Shaker kitchen
Patterned tiles on bathroom floor
Cacti
Bi fold doors
Kitchen island
Berber rug

2 points for:
Herringbone parquet floors
Petrol / navy blue kitchen cupboards
Brass / copper handles
Roll top bath
Fiddle leaf fig
Velvet sofas
Rattan
Pale / plaster pink walls

3 points for:
Crittall doors / windows
Botanical illustration prints
Double fridge freezer
Inbuilt wine rack
Pizza oven / big green egg barbecue
Tasteful arrangement of dried flowers and grasses in earthenware / terracotta jug - 5 bonus points if the jug is one you made yourself at pottery class

Posting in AIBU for traffic but also because I realise this is a bit of a dickish / unreasonable thing for me to post, especially when I too have drunk the cool aid and inherently think this stuff is lovely even though I can see a clever mix of Instagram algorithms and Rightmove has made me think that

Alas my score is 0 as we have just bought a renovation job. However our last house was a high scorer.

Current house is a beautiful thatch, so once “done” will be very naice although no room for bifolds or an island!

DorritLittle · 26/08/2022 20:45

What are all these Instagram accounts? I am useless at home decor.

UniBallEye · 26/08/2022 20:49

We have velvet sofas, farrow & ball calamine (pale pink) walls, a pantry & a pizza oven!!

I thought we'd score higher!!

AlexandriasWindmill · 26/08/2022 20:51

8 points in this house.
10 points in our old house.
We're slowly sliding down the naice-ness scale. 😀

AlexandriasWindmill · 26/08/2022 20:51

Odd that should have said ten points in our old house.

riotlady · 26/08/2022 20:56

I’m on 0, probably -100 for all the artex 😂I do enjoy admiring the type of house you describe though!

PlumPudd · 26/08/2022 20:57

Blossomtoes · 26/08/2022 19:50

Ours is bloody gorgeous but we only score ten. How many points for beams and an inglenook?

I’m afraid that for beams and an inglenook you get “nice points” not “naice points”. Bad luck @Blossomtoes

Rocketpants50 · 26/08/2022 20:57

6 point ( if you include the mostly dead cactus) though might get bonus points for terracotta jug ( has a broken handle - points deducted or added points for more rustic?). Have just put a tiled floor in bathroom it was either that or the crap tiles DH wanted! Might add a few off your list though in coming months to increase my point score.

Notlosinganyweight · 26/08/2022 20:02

I don't have any of those things because i live in a shit hole.

Can we have a shit hole bingo for the remaining 80% of us who don't have the above?

You can include things like:

-Greasy finger marks on walls and upholstery

-curtain rail falling down

-laundry dumped on bed with no time to put it away.

-Tupperware falling out of cupboard upon opening door

-Ring around the bath

-Lovely ombre effect on carpet whereby the perimeter is beige, but the central part the carpet is a lovely light browny grey colour.

-unintended patina effects

I also have four of these @Notlosinganyweight, so I can join in both bingos

Touga · 26/08/2022 21:06

Only 5 points to me....awww 😔
Herringbone floor
A couple of botanical prints

I don't live in a naice area, but all the neighbours think I have the naicest house though. Those 5 points are paying off! Off to the Range tomorrow for some dried flower arrangements and terracotta pots to really boost my naiceness

Skelligsfeathers · 26/08/2022 21:08

Please can you put up some right move links as examples? It all sounds lovely

GoAround · 26/08/2022 21:13

Haha I have almost all of those, except the shaker kitchen. I’m such a cliche 🤣

cimena · 26/08/2022 21:14

Can I add piles of firewood logs, often stacked to entirely fill the fireplace ergo entirely ornamental? That seems to be a very real Thing lately.

And shutters

Otherwise you’ve nailed it OP

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/08/2022 21:19

Out of your list the only thing we have is cacti. We obviously live in a shithole 🤣

Foxglovers · 26/08/2022 21:20

Haha
18 - I’m a basic bitch

Noseylittlemoo · 26/08/2022 21:23

I would add a guitar!
Every other house on RM seems to have a guitar (sometimes more than one ) hung up or artfully displayed somewhere!

YouLookinSusBro · 26/08/2022 21:25

I don't have any of those things...and don't actually know what some of them are 😂

All sounds very faffy, although wouldn't say no to the wine rack or pizza oven!

Cheeselog · 26/08/2022 21:28

You need to add 1 point for the Dishoom cookbook which I have noticed in so many photos, of all the things.

Oldrockingchair · 26/08/2022 21:30

It depends where you live too (or where you look on Rightmove) I was looking at houses for sale in Berkhamsted in Herts recently and all the houses there looked like this, but if you look somewhere less expensive & southeast there is a lot more variety. they are all very samey! I think bi-fold doors are a bit 2008 though. I also hate the large open plan kitchen/dining rooms on the back of Victorian houses. South-west London full of houses with them and they all look identical. And really boring.

PlumPudd · 26/08/2022 21:40

Skelligsfeathers · 26/08/2022 21:08

@Skelligsfeathers

This house is very “naice”. Doesn’t tick all the boxes, no posh barbecue, kitchen not blue though it does get ten extra bonus points for the five (FIVE) cream coloured le creuset’s in the kitchen.

A very naice house

MotherOfPuffling · 26/08/2022 21:41

Hah! I have many of these, and also of those in @Notlosinganyweight ’s bingo! My house is tiny though, which probably wipes out any ‘naice’ points 😊

CrystalCoco · 26/08/2022 21:42

I ONLY got 9 points!!! (and 6 of them came from double fridge-freezer and inbuilt wine rack - which I assume my wine fridge is)

But I can assure you - I live in a very naice house in a very naice area - just not London or the other areas you mention

Blankscreen · 26/08/2022 21:45

I think the really naice houses have a

large double or zoned wine fridge.

A mirrored/decorative bar area

Quooker tap

An additional trough sink in the massive island for filling with ice and serving drinks in.

Speaker system wired in

Expensive smoked mirror splashback.

HeyMicky · 26/08/2022 21:47

Lol velvet sofas are minus 50 points

Maramo · 26/08/2022 21:47

I'm house hunting as well and the things that stand out to me are not enough walls and too many bathrooms.
I loathe open plan, would have to build walls to make some houses liveable - think of the draughts! Also there are only two of us and I want a big house but I don't want more bathrooms than people😅
