Naice house bingo!

GrahameSylvia · 26/08/2022 17:01

House hunting at the moment and have noticed just how incredibly similarly all the naice houses are decorated. Especially in the posher bits of London, Manchester, York, Oxford etc.

Thought I’d invent a little game of house bingo to see how widespread this style really is and whose house is the dreamiest? Post your score / thoughts….

1 point for:
Exposed wood floors
Shaker kitchen
Patterned tiles on bathroom floor
Cacti
Bi fold doors
Kitchen island
Berber rug

2 points for:
Herringbone parquet floors
Petrol / navy blue kitchen cupboards
Brass / copper handles
Roll top bath
Fiddle leaf fig
Velvet sofas
Rattan
Pale / plaster pink walls

3 points for:
Crittall doors / windows
Botanical illustration prints
Double fridge freezer
Inbuilt wine rack
Pizza oven / big green egg barbecue
Tasteful arrangement of dried flowers and grasses in earthenware / terracotta jug - 5 bonus points if the jug is one you made yourself at pottery class

Posting in AIBU for traffic but also because I realise this is a bit of a dickish / unreasonable thing for me to post, especially when I too have drunk the cool aid and inherently think this stuff is lovely even though I can see a clever mix of Instagram algorithms and Rightmove has made me think that

OP posts:

2 points

One of them is for the shaker style kitchen which I had too look up on google to know what it was.

Think I already knew our house is never going to get classed as naice by anyone.

Rwealere · 26/08/2022 19:46

Can’t believe I managed to score 1 thanks to the added list. I never knew there was a name for those doors had to search the name Crittal I actually like those door, but wouldn’t suit the look I like.

Bonheurdupasse · 26/08/2022 19:48

Can anyone suggest some naice home Instagram accounts?
I'm on themodernhouse non stop and I think I'm running out...

I agree, it’s another ‘let’s mock the middle class (a Mumsnet obsession) or those with naicer (that term makes my teeth itch) things’ thread. There seem to be more and more on here recently.

Would it be appropriate to have a ‘I’m looking at cheap houses at the moment and why are all poor peoples house the same. Points for:

net curtains
flying ducks on the wall
an old sofa in the garden
a car with no wheels up on bricks in the drive

(I’m basing this on Daisy and Onslows house having just watched an episode of Keeping Up Appearances!)

I've got flying ducks! I bought them at an auction house for £40, and also got the rarer flying seagulls in my bedroom for £75.

No broken car and minging sofa tho.

Blossomtoes · 26/08/2022 19:50

Ours is bloody gorgeous but we only score ten. How many points for beams and an inglenook?

A580Hojas · 26/08/2022 19:50

You've missed a biggie - all the cool kids in London now have black bathroom taps, showers, handles. Yep, black! LOL.

LoveKingGary · 26/08/2022 19:51

I thought 'fiddle leaf fig' was a typo or your autocorrect going awry, but no - it's a plant 😳

ChineAndWheeseParty · 26/08/2022 19:53

You forgot paneling

AgnestaVipers · 26/08/2022 19:53

We have a wine rack in our basement, so I think that counts as an actual wine cellar - worth 14 points. So, 22 in total.

StridTheKiller · 26/08/2022 19:56

It's called fashion OP. My house is lush but has none of thosevthings you mention, neither do most of my 'naice' housed friends.

SBAM · 26/08/2022 19:57

Is a double fridge freezer the American type?

if so I get 6 points - big fridge freezer (only type that would fit the existing gap in the previous owners fitted kitchen) and some framed prints of plants in the bathroom.

I think my house is nice, but definitely could be nicer.

AussiUnHomme · 26/08/2022 19:59

I've got horses and acres, how many points for that?

Notlosinganyweight · 26/08/2022 20:02

I don't have any of those things because i live in a shit hole.

Can we have a shit hole bingo for the remaining 80% of us who don't have the above?

You can include things like:

-Greasy finger marks on walls and upholstery

-curtain rail falling down

-laundry dumped on bed with no time to put it away.

-Tupperware falling out of cupboard upon opening door

-Ring around the bath

-Lovely ombre effect on carpet whereby the perimeter is beige, but the central part the carpet is a lovely light browny grey colour.

-unintended patina effects

PriamFarrl · 26/08/2022 17:03

I don’t have any of those things.

Ditto. Guess our houses are shite 🙄

I would like a double fridge freezer though but no room for one unfortunately

Or our houses aren’t predictable and dull.

Angelinflipflops · 26/08/2022 20:14

The word naice is a bit wanky

There I've scored 5 now. Would have been 6 but I just cleaned the bath before putting the kids in it else they'd have come out dirtier than they went in

OhmygodDont · 26/08/2022 20:15

Oh we have Cactuses and a rattan garden sofa and a pantry go me.

people have flying ducks? My grandmother used to have frogs on the bathroom walls. I like mine just tiled.

Blinkingheckythump · 26/08/2022 20:16

PriamFarrl · 26/08/2022 20:12

Or our houses aren’t predictable and dull.

Tbf mines pretty much all beige still from when it was built, so I'm afraid mine is a bit dull and predictable. Cba decorating though as we're going to move when we can afford to to something bigger. Maybe I'll get the naice points then

dementedma · 26/08/2022 20:24

O points here. Dont know what some of those things are. But then we live in an upstairs flat in a former mining village so not "naice" at all.
The plus is that the mortgage is under 300 quid a month

billy1966 · 26/08/2022 20:32

The blue kitchen is a real thing in the past year.
I know of 4 kitchens that have been painted, formerly solid wood kitchens that been updated and black worktops also replaced.
They look great but the colour is strong.
I would be afraid I would go off it because by the 4th kitchen, I was a bit meh.

Freeasabird76 · 26/08/2022 20:35

Zero points 😂

Blossomtoes · 26/08/2022 20:36

I love blue. Just love it. There’s no way I’ll ever go off our blue kitchen.

RampantIvy · 26/08/2022 20:39

I have none of those things.
We got rid of our Shaker kitchen this year because it was 25 years old and showing its age, and I got fed up with having to clean the gresay, dusty ledges in the doors all the time. All my cupboards are now completely flush and easy to clean.
