Do you shower in the morning or night
I prefer night I have a much better sleep knowing am all clean for bed

I’m dirty at the end of the day, not the beginning. At the beginning I wake up in a nice clean. cotton bed, in my knickers and nightie or pjs (so very few bodily fluids make it onto the bedding). There’s nothing to wash off. Washing is different to washing off - the first is done as a default, then second is done because you are dirty and you need to remove the layer of dirt before you can resume the default wash.

by the end of the day I am sweaty from exercise - i have various gross things scattered on me - child saliva or sick, mud, cleaning products and chemicals, smeared or sweated off make up, slidy sun cream, pollution in my pores, other people smell from buses and trains and cooking smells from dinner.

im not getting in my clean bed like that. I’m also not showering more that once a day at a maximum, there is no need and we will pay for it on a population level. I didn’t even have a shower in my own home until I was 27 so I’m no stranger to a strip wash and a bath hose attachment for the hair. But I do think showers are faster and less faffy.

Firstly when I wake.
Then when I get to the pool before my early morning swim
Then after my swim
Sometimes over lunch if I go to the gym
When I get home from work
Then before bed... or twice if I have sex (before and after).

So potentially up 7 times... but at least I'm clean!

Why?!
I would shower before the swim and after and then maybe before bed
Why after work and before bed?

Leftbutcameback · 23/08/2022 22:22

I often exercise in the evening so after that, but otherwise first thing (unless I'm straight off to exercise). Sometimes if I'm WFH I do work for a bit and then get showered and dressed.

WishDragon · 23/08/2022 22:30

Even if I showered in the evening, if I had sex I would still shower in the morning. Else that’s just a bit grim, isn’t it?

I'm trying so hard not to laugh and wake the toddler asleep on me...😂

🤦‍♀️😳😂

fdkc · 23/08/2022 22:35

Always evening for me. Mornings are too hectic here as it is and already a very early start.

Sartre · 23/08/2022 22:38

Always evening because I don’t like the idea of going to bed (and potentially having sex) dirty. Generally have a quick morning one after a run or workout too.

Fairislefandango · 23/08/2022 22:46

Every day, always in the morning. I sweat at night. I don't do a job that makes me get dirty or sweaty during the day. My hair needs washing and blow-drying every morning anyway. It's very fine and tangly, so looks utterly crap and a bit greasy when I wake up <attractive >.

HintofVintagePink · 23/08/2022 22:50

7am after my run.

I like to start the day off fresh with clean hair. I fully expect to get a little rumpled when I go to bed.

Feeling terrible now. Does EVERYONE shower every day? No strip washes?😱

I have never understood the strip/sink wash thing. A 3 minute shower is much faster, efficient, pleasant and means I'm not soaking the floor or having to get my feet up into the sink!

SleepingAgent · 23/08/2022 22:59

@TokidokiBarbie fantastic typo! GrinGrinGrin

SleepingAgent · 23/08/2022 23:02

Every morning, just don't feel right putting on clean clothes and leaving the house unwashed. It helps me get moving too (I have some health issues which can mean a slow start some days).

I will sometimes have a second shower if I'm going out in the evening or been particularly warm or sweaty that day.

An occasional lazy long bath on a Sunday is lovely too.

OceanbreezeSun · 23/08/2022 23:11

In the evening. It just makes sense to me, washing the days dirt off.

It feels nice going to bed fresh and clean, then putting a fresh tshirt and knickers on.

I’ll have a cold shower in the morning if I feel I need a extra wake up, but thats rare.

Margo34 · 23/08/2022 23:15

Morning, assuming DH is home and available to be on toddler-watch/breakfast duty. If not then: evening if I've got something planned at a specific time next morning, or of no plans next day then in the morning with toddler pulling faces and licking the shower door. Basically once a day whenever there's time.

Topgub · 23/08/2022 23:17

I dont shower every day and find the idea of twice daily showers ridiculous

I mostly shower in the mornings though

Toosadtocomprehend · 23/08/2022 23:21

Morning for whole family…it gets us going for the day!!

Sparklingbrook · 23/08/2022 23:24

I shower twice daily so I feel nice and clean before work, then nice and clean after work before going to bed. I think it’s perfectly ok.

ColonelCarter · 23/08/2022 23:25

Morning if I'm dropping the kids off, going out for the day or going in to the office. Lunch time if I'm WFH and DH has done drop off.

Ramble0n · 23/08/2022 23:29

I don't think there's any need to shower twice a day. Perhaps I'm just grim though.

AnOldCynic · 23/08/2022 23:31

Nah @Ramble0n, I'm grim - I don't even shower daily 😂. Just wash pits and bits on the days I don't...

CaptainBarbosa · 23/08/2022 23:32

I know I'm going to sound grim but I shower every other day, but I wash every morning.

Yes that's right a gold old fashioned flannel and sink wash with some scented soap, towel dry and then talc, deodorant then get dressed. Every morning 😂 I can assure you I smell just fine.

DS 8 also has a flannel wash every morning, towel dry, talc and dress. He also smells just fine and fragrant. He has a midweek shower, a Friday night shower and a Sunday Dettol bath after rugby.

But I now think I know why my utilities are lower than others. Showering twice a day?! Might as well throw pound coins down the sink 😳

Yes! the twice a day showerers will be moaning about their fuel bills whist us grim stinkers will be able to use the heating for half an hour a day.

Sparklingbrook · 23/08/2022 23:35

My twice daily showers take about two minutes each so not throwing money away. Not on a water meter and I hate baths so it’s really not a problem.

Rosesandstars · 23/08/2022 21:30

Something like 40% of people do.

Not on this thread they don't.

I shower daily (mostly) and mine are low but I only have a 3-4 min shower and I'm really cautious about energy and water
Strip washing is fine though, I had to do it after an op and weirdly my bumpy upper arm skin vanished!
My dad has an old boiler so he heats the water, showers, washes up etc and switches it off. The next day it's still hot enough to strip wash and wash the dishes rather than heating it back up for another shower
