I sold a shoe cabinet in face book market place. Very reduced. She picked it up yesterday and looked at it carefully and then decided to buy. I have her a further £5 off as she kept saying there’s a scratch.

my husband and her husband loaded it in the car and this morning I get a message from her saying can she have the other shelves as they are missing! I was confused as it was obviously there. There’s 4 shelves and she opened it infront of us and I saw too. I replied back that’s it’s impossible 3 of the 4 shelves have dissapeared. She keeps messaging me. Where do I stand? Husband not home and I’m home alone with my little kids. Say if she turns up?

Block her. She’s trying to scam you into giving it her for free. Honestly tell her to fuck off and block. If she turns up ignore the door. If she doesn’t go away call the police.

TimeForTeaAndG · 23/08/2022 12:50

Block her. If she turns up, don't answer the door. If she won't leave, phone the police.

TeenDivided · 23/08/2022 12:50

I would assume one of the husbands removed the loose shelves and either put them at the bottom or separately in the car.

TeenDivided · 23/08/2022 12:51

Though do double check they aren't leaning against a wall or the staircase in your house.

ChangeNane1 · 23/08/2022 12:52

No it’s a small show cabinet. She inspected it and our husband literally picked up and put in car. Nothing fell out as I went out aswell as her purse was in car.

When she was huffing and puffing about the scratch I told her she does t have to take it! I said it in a nice way btw I said “we’ll have a good look and decide if u want it”,

Sold as seen. But don't engage with her at all. Ignore.

I gave up selling through fb marketplace. Every single one was trying it on. Complaining etc. I didn't like that they knew where I lived.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 23/08/2022 12:56

It was sold as seen, she saw it, wanted it and your husband and hers put it in their car.

I'd ignore and block

Legally where do I stand?

She inspected it before taking it away. She doesn't have a leg to stand on, just block and ignore.

ChangeNane1 · 23/08/2022 12:59

It’s really making me uncomfortable. For the sake of £30 why would someone do this? She was there with the loading stage how could we secretly take out 3 shelves! Plus why would we want to have 3 shelves without a cabinet.

Goods are classed as sold as seen. Did she pay cash not Paypal or anything? If cash, the deal is done. If Paypal be wary in case she tries to open a dispute.

LiftyLift · 23/08/2022 13:01

What an absolute chancer. Block her and don’t engage. She likely does this all the time and will move on once she realises you’re not having it.

GlitterB0mb · 23/08/2022 13:01

Block and ignore. She's trying it on.

LimboLass · 23/08/2022 13:01

Legally where do I stand?

Did you sign a contract with her? She has paid for a £5 item off facebook. The chance of her taking you to small claims let anone winning is the square root of nil.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 23/08/2022 13:02

Are there perhaps more supports for shelves than actual shelves (so that you have more flexibility with shelf spacing) meaning that she thinks you must have extra shelves lying around still?

In any case, I'd just block her and ignore. Caveat emptor.

TeenDivided · 23/08/2022 13:03

You would normally move loose shelves for transit safety. Double check with your DH and between where it was and your front door.

ChangeNane1 · 23/08/2022 13:04

No she’s saying there was only 1 shelf! It’s a four shelf shoe cabinet. There were 4 shelves when she opened it to look at.

it wasnt five pounds, OP gave her 5 pounds off for a scratch. It was £30

RB68 · 23/08/2022 13:08

yeah reply sold as seen - tell her to check the car in case anything got left in there. Its second hand and cheap what does she expect - ridiculous

Dougieowner · 23/08/2022 13:09

Just block and ignore.

I did a lot of selling on FB last year when we were getting ready to move and the cheek of some people astounded me.
In the end I got so fed up that if anyone started the old "not what I was expecting" (it was), "how about dropping the price to cover my fuel" etc etc then they were told it was no-longer available and shut the door.

She had time to notice a scratch but didn't see that shelves were missing.......... Yeh, ok!!!!!!!
Don't let her guilt you in giving money back as she will be laughing at you.

ChangeNane1 · 23/08/2022 13:10

@Dougieowner yes we are moving too. Exactly she had the eye to see a tiny little scratch yet 3 shelves missing she missed! Lol

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 23/08/2022 13:11

Not your fault she can't count /has shelf seeing blindness.
Any bother at your door you ring the police. You most certainly do not refund.
