I sold a shoe cabinet in face book market place. Very reduced. She picked it up yesterday and looked at it carefully and then decided to buy. I have her a further £5 off as she kept saying there’s a scratch.

my husband and her husband loaded it in the car and this morning I get a message from her saying can she have the other shelves as they are missing! I was confused as it was obviously there. There’s 4 shelves and she opened it infront of us and I saw too. I replied back that’s it’s impossible 3 of the 4 shelves have dissapeared. She keeps messaging me. Where do I stand? Husband not home and I’m home alone with my little kids. Say if she turns up?

Do you have a local Buy Nothing group? I've just given away a huge amount of stuff, picked up from our front yard, no interaction required. Might be easier and save you some time.

VerifiedBot2351 · 23/08/2022 17:44

Is there a chance that the shelves have become dislodged in the journey and are actually at the bottom of the unit? IKEA Billy bookcase shelves do that.

ChangeNane1 · 23/08/2022 19:46

She didn’t turn up. My anxiety was just hitting the roof today. I’m so annoyed I let her get to me and spoil the last week in my home.

Thank you so much everyone, you have no idea how much you all helped me. Apologies for all the typos I made in earlier posts, I was just panicking so was quickly typing into phone.

Block her!
for your safety have nothing to do with her. This is a scam, don’t be afraid or intimidated,

ChangeNane1 · 23/08/2022 12:59

It’s really making me uncomfortable. For the sake of £30 why would someone do this? She was there with the loading stage how could we secretly take out 3 shelves! Plus why would we want to have 3 shelves without a cabinet.

Because she’s a CF and people like her will argue over the smallest amount of money and hope you give in. Bought as seen, block and ignore her

gamerchick · 24/08/2022 18:09

Keep her blocked. If she posts online people will only say what's been said on this thread. She isn't going to turn up.

GrasssInPocket · 24/08/2022 18:13

My money's on the shelves being on the floor of the unit. You can't fix stupid...I once sold a high bed to a couple and handed them the assembly instructions as there were quite a lot of parts, including the exact number of different-sized dowels to connect the pieces. Man waved them away, "don't need those, I do this kind of thing all the time at work". A couple of hours later there's a phone call with them claiming to be missing four small dowels but inexplicably had four larger ones left over that didn't fit the holes ... 🙄😂

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 24/08/2022 18:29

she messaged me last week asking if she could have for half the price asked

She's a scammer and a CF.

Sorry she stressed you out so much. Moving is stressful anyway.

Hope your move goes well and enjoy your new home!

cherish123 · 24/08/2022 18:41

Tell her this again. It's up to her to make sure she takes all the parts. If she's still claiming the shelves aren't there, ask her to return it and give her the money back. I'd clock it up as experience and bin it. You have not lost any money. Personally, I don't sell to strangers. Just give it to charities in future.

Jobear2797 · 24/08/2022 18:44

Legally as she picked it up you don’t have to do a thing, found this out to my cost when I arranged for a delivery company to pick up a brand new mattress for me, it was supposed to be a specific one I needed for my back, seller confirmed on numerous messages that it was but when it was delivered and we unwrapped it it wasn’t the correct one, spoke to PayPal who said as I had arranged collection it then from the moment it was collected I had officially accepted the goods, even though it wasn’t as described there was not a damn thing I could do about it.

This lady is actually worse off as she collected it and paid cash, so legally she accepted the cabinet the moment she gave you the money, sold as seen, her problem.

To be honest it does sound like she’s trying to pull a fast one and sadly these days there are plenty like her that will try to complain about anything they can to get a freebie, you’d already given her a £5 reduction, she’s chancing her arm, block her and forget about it. If she turns up, which I very much doubt as you know the shelves where all in there, so know she is pulling a fast one, call the police.

I suspect you’ll find your cabinet for sale for £100 on eBay within a week, all shelves intact!!!!!

SavBbunny · 24/08/2022 18:52

I am sorry op. I had a mobility scooter for sale, cost £3000. I asked for a donation to charity, you have no idea the nutters it attacked. My father had passed. It was bizzare. If she bothers you ring the police. Enjoy your new home.

Missingpop · 24/08/2022 19:04

My daughter sells a lot of her work via Facebook & she has one golden rule sold as seen she makes sure people are happy with their purchase before they leave.
If she comes back don’t open the door, ignore her she got a fiver knocked off of it & is now trying to get more money back by pulling a fast one it’s a classic trick, but please don’t let this bullying woman trick you.
There are a lot of decent people out there who appreciate a bargain but sadly there are also some evil so & so’s who have no moral compass.
I hope your nerves settle down x

threatmatrix · 24/08/2022 19:10

Just block her.

Broadhillbaby · 24/08/2022 19:27

Ignore her, or tell her sold as seen, she took it, end of.

Doris86 · 24/08/2022 19:32

I’m not surprised. If you advertised a £3000 item for ‘donations’ you’ll be inundated with people trying to get it for £50 or £100 so they can re sell for a big profit.

If you advertised at its true value, you would mostly have got serious buyers with far less hassle. You could then still donate the proceeds to charity if you so wished.

lemmein · 24/08/2022 19:34

I sell on Etsy and you wouldn't believe the amount of customers that pretend their parcel hasn't turned up - or half of it is missing, etc. Luckily i sell baby clothes so I have a quick look on their FB page then send them a screenshot of their baby wearing the outfit they claim never arrived 🙄

The amount of time I spend on these chancers is unreal - there's far too many thick people in the world!

Orangello · 24/08/2022 19:42

I had that - buyer inspected the item, was happy with it, but then started harassing me over some little cosmetic fault that neither of us noticed, but apparently was suddenly so bad the items was of no use to her. You literally had to zoom in to see anything even if pointed out. Gave her a fiver and she went away, so guess the item wasn't that unusable after all. Scammer.

Thats really nasty of them

Summerofsyn · 24/08/2022 19:46

Not the first time I’ve heard something like this regarding f/b market place.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 24/08/2022 19:55

My ds sold a big fish tank set up. Across the top was a repaired crack.. Was there when ds bought it second hand himself. No issues at all. The man saw it set up. With water and fish!
Ds emptied it and cleaned it out.
Man took it away.
Rang next day saying it had a crack and he wanted ds to go collect it and have his money back (£150 for over £800 of kit)
Stressed ds to bits and he ended up blocking him.

Jackster11 · 24/08/2022 20:08

sold as seen, her property as soon as it left your house, say no more

Dibbydoos · 24/08/2022 20:28

Don't answer the door to her. Tell her to do one! I can't stand properly like this....

Twillow · 24/08/2022 20:36

I'd be tempted to say bring it back then.
But on the updates she sounds batty/annoying/weird and was probably going to push for you to give her her money back without actually returning the item.

Shade17 · 24/08/2022 21:49

My daughter sells a lot of her work via Facebook & she has one golden rule sold as seen she makes sure people are happy with their purchase before they leave.

Sold as seen doesn’t apply to business sellers though. She cannot absolve herself of her responsibilities under CRA 2015.

Marotte · 24/08/2022 22:09

It’s really making me uncomfortable. For the sake of £30 why would someone do this? Because she's trying to scam you, or nuts, (or both).
