I used to buy them
All the time I hardly even see them
In the shop anymore do you still buy them

Pyewhacket · 16/08/2022 02:03

Yes, all the time. My husband and daughters too.

Dita73 · 16/08/2022 02:04

No never. I use to buy the usual ones,Heat,Hello and OK,etc but not for years now. I wasn’t sure Heat was still going but then I saw it in the supermarket last week. David Beckham was still on the bloody cover!

cantley · 16/08/2022 02:06

I have a subscription to one which is quarterly which I really like.
Otherwise never.

Nat6999 · 16/08/2022 02:26

No I use Readly, it is tidier, I don't have piles of magazines like I used to. I'm the same for books I read everything on Kobo, the only time I buy books are Girls Gone By ones of reprints of Chalet School books or fill ins that I collect. I'm a bit of a hoarder & I'm trying to cut down on physical things I buy.

dutysuite · 16/08/2022 02:45

No I haven’t done for years and I haven’t bought a newspaper in years either; I read the news online

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 16/08/2022 03:01

Yes, I still like buying magazines, I've always loved them.
As a teen it was Just 17, TV Hits, Blue Jeans, Patches, then as a young adult stuff like That's Life etc.
Gone off the latter and never buy anymore though as they seem obsessed with child abuse stories.
Now it's the magazine's I always used to think was for "older" people that more speak to me, like Prima which I buy monthly 😁 or occasionally House and Style

FangsForTheMemory · 16/08/2022 03:04

No, for the price of two glossies you can buy a book and have a proper read.

glamourousindierockandroll · 16/08/2022 03:05

I don't. I used to enjoy the big chunky fashion magazines like Vogue and Elle but I looked at one the other week and it was half the size, and felt like cheap quality paper - like the free promotional flyers that fall out of them. I stopped getting them because I didn't have the time to read them any more, and they were also very expensive for the amount of actual articles compared to adverts in them.

I never used to miss Heat and before that would always buy Sugar, Bliss, J-17, Smash Hits etc

I like reading interior design magazines now but i get them electronically through my local library.

This. They are so expensive especially when most of the content is just rehashed online stories and features.

Kitkatcatflap · 16/08/2022 03:07

I live abroad. I have a subscription to Tatler and House & Garden. Love them and squeal with delight when they arrive

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 16/08/2022 03:09

See, I do a lot of reading via my phone but I still like to physically feel magazines and books too, even if it doesn't happen as much as it used to

Chouetted · 16/08/2022 04:12

I subscribe to niche interest ones that come through my letter box - but I'm still prone to a Puzzler now and then

WanderingFruitWonderer · 16/08/2022 04:33

Come to think of it, no. But I hadn't consciously thought about it till now! I used to buy Natural Health magazine, or vegan mags when travelling. I haven't for ages. I guess smartphones have replaced them? Also, yes so expensive, and all that paper, in terms of the environment. I miss them in some ways though - maybe I'll treat myself next time I'm on a long train/ferry journey! I don't fly anymore due to the climate crisis.

onlythreenow · 16/08/2022 04:46

Plenty of magazines in the shops where I am, and yes I buy a monthly magazine and then pass it to a friend.

Longdistance · 16/08/2022 05:28

I haven’t bought a magazine in years. I used to like to get one at the airport, but they’re full of adverts.
Years ago I used to have a subscription to Glamour, but stopped that due to the amount of adverts.

TrufflesForBreakfast · 16/08/2022 05:37

I have a free subscription to Country Living courtesy of my bank, so I'll flick through that. Plus the Waitrose magazines when they arrive. And the local parish magazine Grin

But I won't go out and actually buy one these days. All my information is gleaned from the internet. Magazines are just glorified adverts these days as is Instagram, admittedly.

Sally99 · 16/08/2022 06:19

Never buy but enjoy the ones at the hairdresser- best but about going!

Ifailed · 16/08/2022 06:39

I have a subscription to Private Eye, a lot of the content is not available on-line.

leccybill · 16/08/2022 06:44

Only once a year at the airport.
Used to buy Take A Break Pets for DD 12 but they stopped it.

Vampirethriller · 16/08/2022 06:47

I do, but not the fancy glossy ones, I like Take a Break and Chat.

oopsfellover · 16/08/2022 06:50

I used to buy mags all the time - all the teen ones then ‘graduated’ to subscriptions to various glossies. Apart from the occasional Private Eye I don’t buy any now, or even browse them in the shops. I can’t think of anyone I know who does actually, Writing this has made me nostalgic for free flip flops.

AutumnIsHere21 · 16/08/2022 06:52

I bought one in a train station the other day - my first in years - and it was SIX QUID!

NancyJoan · 16/08/2022 06:53

I have Grazia and Vanity Fair on subscription. Grazia is a bit daft, but I do enjoy it. Vanity Fair is a brilliant magazine; so much to read, really well researched and written long-read features.

Antarcticant · 16/08/2022 06:56

We have Private Eye delivered.

Strawberrypudding · 16/08/2022 06:56

No but purely because they are ridiculously expensive. I buy a puzzle magazine for holidays though. But I refuse to pay more than £3 for one. I got one at a car boot sale this year on holiday for 20p. And it came with a pen! Kept me busy all week!
