I used to buy them
All the time I hardly even see them
In the shop anymore do you still buy them

Vogue, Psychologies, Psychology Now, occasionally Women & Health or similar.

IDontDrinkTea · 16/08/2022 06:56

My 3yo daughter loves a magazine! Especially the CBeebies or peppa pig magazines that come with some plastic tat toy on the front. I try and avoid buying them though as they’re always £5+ which i think is a lot

FuzzyPuffling · 16/08/2022 06:58

DH buys me a subscription to Gardeners' World, which I love. I then pass it on to my newly garden-enthusiastic daughter. And I use the calendar.

FloydWasACat · 16/08/2022 07:00

I used to work for a huge magazine publishing company, it is defunct now. But no, I don't buy magazines either anymore. Well, I used to get them free and part of my job was to read and catalogue articles, I have no inclination to buy them anymore.

Yerroblemom1923 · 16/08/2022 07:01

I used to love them in my teens and 20s and would buy Heat religiously. Loved Mizz, My Girl, Smash Hits, Look-in, J17 and even as a kid my Grandad would buy me My Little Pony or Care Bears comics.
Bought a couple of mags for a long journey recently and was seriously unimpressed. Didn't know or care about half the "celebrities" in there.
I know older members of my family eg mum, aunts etc read the older ones like Woman's Weekly but they don't do the internet.
I think they'll die out soon.

Toomanybooks22 · 16/08/2022 07:05

I do near to Christmas. I like all the Christmas versions of magazines like Good Food, delicious, and usually there's good housekeeping or another Christmas themed one as well.

No but purely because they are ridiculously expensive. I buy a puzzle magazine for holidays though. But I refuse to pay more than £3 for one. I got one at a car boot sale this year on holiday for 20p. And it came with a pen! Kept me busy all week!

Yes, those pens can be quite tricky to get working sometimes. 😂

Livebythecoast · 16/08/2022 07:16

I was only thinking about this the other day actually. I was having lunch in the staff room and found some old 'Take a Break's. My Mum and I used to love them and laugh at some of the 'Top Tips' together! She's no longer here now 😢 but it brought back some nice memories. I haven't bought a magazine since my DD was little (18 now) when she would beg me for CBeebies or something with the crap 'free' toy or whatever - happy days!!

MinnieMountain · 16/08/2022 07:22

I subscribe to the paper version of The Week. At the height of the pandemic the publishers included the digital version for free. Didn’t like it.

DS gets Beano. He’s got a massive pile of them and loves rereading them.

FourChimneys · 16/08/2022 07:23

I get a couple of niche magazines on subscription as does DH.

I've never bought a magazine like Elle but occasionally I buy a vegan cookery one.

SaintHelena · 16/08/2022 07:28

Our Tesco and WHSmith have tons still so someone is buying them.

soupmaker · 16/08/2022 07:28

I bought magazines in my 20's and early 30s before I started having kids and had no time! Bought Marie Claire, Elle and every now and again Vogue and Vanity Fair when travelling. I bought Grazia for a few years when it launched. Every now and again buy Runners World. I used to buy a daily paper too, haven't done that for years either.

UserError012345 · 16/08/2022 07:39

No

Kenwouldmixitup · 16/08/2022 07:44

No. Not good value for money. Paying for advertising. Buy a book.

theDudesmummy · 16/08/2022 07:46

I get the Economist and the New Scientist, could have both just in digital form but I love just having the actual magazine. My DS gets National Geographic Kids, which he loves too.

DillonPanthersTexas · 16/08/2022 07:48

I subscribe to Private Eye and Spores, Moulds and Fungi Monthly.

Pottedpalm · 16/08/2022 07:48

I was a magazine fan for decades… Bunty and Judy, then Petticoat and on to Elle and Good Housekeeping. More recently lots of home design stuff when we were renovating an old property. I have kept these and love a browse, but don’t buy any more. 25 Beautiful Homes is good for an hour with a pot of tea and biscuits.
i was pondering the magazine issue recently as my son got engaged and I wanted to buy a bridal magazine for my DIL to
be. Went to large supermarket with an aisle of magazines… not a single one aimed at brides.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/08/2022 07:51

Only Good Housekeeping at Christmas , I used to buy loads of Christmas magazines but they really weren't wrth the money .
I bought a double pack to take on holiday , I think GH and Red , and just reminded myself what a waste they are ,

Yazoop · 16/08/2022 07:51

I have an online sub to The Economist - prefer having the actual magazine but online is so much cheaper and I’m more likely to have a read when I’m on the go. Occasionally buy Private Eye and the odd interiors magazine. But, in general, don’t read papers and magazines like I used to - most of my news is online and for things like decor, you get so much content on the likes of Instagram and Pinterest now.

I do think fondly to my teen and tween days where magazines were a big part of my life - loved music mags - Smash Hits, Q and so on! And football ones (bit of a tomboy) like FourFourTwo!

Pootle40 · 16/08/2022 07:53

No, subscribe to Readly. Cost is about the price of one magazine and can read anything I like!

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 16/08/2022 07:58

I have a subscription to a niche music magazine (hobby) and would buy the Good Food Christmas editions - but the Waitrose food magazine is a good sub! My mum sends me her old Spectators.

My children get the Week Junior and the Pokémon magazine, but that’s it. Would very rarely buy a glossy - maybe Vogue or suchlike if I’m travelling.

mondaytosunday · 16/08/2022 08:05

Yes - they are all right there where they normally are!
I don't tend to buy off the shelf though (except Christmas magazines) but I subscribe to four interior design mags. They all have online versions but I like to have the actual mag and have a file of tearsheets. .

StopFeckingFaffing · 16/08/2022 08:08

I used to buy a lot in my teens, twenties and thirties

I'm now 47 and can't remember the last time I bought a magazine. It just wouldn't cross my mind to anymore.

SirenSays · 16/08/2022 08:10

I used to buy all the glossy fashion mags, they're just full of adverts now. I still buy a writing magazine occasionally.

PollyRockets · 16/08/2022 08:10

I used to buy 5-6 a week when younger

Haven't purchased one for over 8 years now, maybe longer

Wonder what madness is in take a break these days Grin
