To think people should hang their heads in shame

After Freya the walrus who had taken up residence in a Norwegian fjord has been euthanised because idiot people would not heed the warnings to stop getting so close to her which put them and her in danger . People were posing for photos , feeding her and throwing things at her .

Now she's been euthanised . So they have nothing to see .

👏👏👏 slow hand clap .

It's so sad and could have been easily avoided.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 14/08/2022 16:41

Why are some people so fucking stupid. It’s incredibly frustrating.

FlibbertyGiblets · 14/08/2022 16:46

ugh people are dicks sometimes.

FadedRed · 14/08/2022 16:48

Such a shame this happened, poor Freya.

RudsyFarmer · 14/08/2022 16:50

I think all people who exploit wildlife for their own gratification should hang their heads in shame.

TooMuchGoogling · 14/08/2022 16:51

This makes me so fucking angry. That animal did nothing wrong.

35965a · 14/08/2022 16:51

Fucking idiots

hattie43 · 14/08/2022 16:52

Made me so angry when I read that .

Why didn't they just put up barriers preventing people getting close .
Disgusting thing to do

Rapidtango · 14/08/2022 16:52

Freya should have been left to get on with her life and if some dickhead ignoring warnings got too close and was killed or injured, so be it. Darwin's law in action.

There are times when I hate the human race and think mass human extinction would solve all a lot of planet earth's problems

Actually I've wondered if it really would be so bad if the human race died out .
Our selfishness and destruction doesn't leave anything to be desired

FarmerRefuted · 14/08/2022 16:55

Absolute shower of dickheads.

Why didn't they just put up barriers preventing people getting close

The article I read said people were swimming close to her, using inflatables, etc. so barriers wouldn't have made a difference and the stress was affecting her sleeping/eating/ overall welfare so moving her on wasn't a viable option either.

Hope they're all fucking proud of themselves.

it would be the best thing for the planet and the remaining species we’ve deemed suitable to survive.

Fladdermus · 14/08/2022 16:55

Shame they didn't euthanise the idiots instead.

stillvicarinatutu · 14/08/2022 17:00

I've always said the climate crisis won't destroy the planet , the planet will survive just like it always has through ice ages and floods and heat, it's the human race which will be destroyed. We will kill ourselves off . The planet will carry on regardless.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 14/08/2022 17:02

It's so upsetting and it was completely unnecessary. Why are people so attention seeking, with such a strong sense of entitlement, that they feel they can impose themselves on a wild animal? Even with the instructions not to approach, feed, interact? Were these twats never told 'No!' when they were young?

It is a different time now and social media has been utilised in the worst possible way in this instance.

It is a bit 'End of Days' at the moment and when I read things like this I can't help wondering if that would be such a bad thing. Humans are parasites and inherently wilfully destructive.

excitingusername · 14/08/2022 17:02

They could have done more to address this surely. Or just let it mix with the humans. Who were they to say how her life should've been? If someone was bitten/killed, that's on them, just like getting into a field with a bull and teasing it!

This. So much this. It’s the height of human arrogance to think that only we, and not Mother Nature, can save the planet. Earth was here long long before humans emerged and will be here long after we’ve become extinct.

Soubriquet · 14/08/2022 17:05

I guess this photo shows everything

I get people are excited about an animal that they wouldn’t normally see so close up, but why would you risk yourself, your children and the animal?!

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 14/08/2022 17:10

What the actual fuck have I just read? I hadn’t heard about Freya before but, my god, this has made me so angry. I fucking hate humans a lot of the time tbh. And I completely agree re Climate Change, been saying it for a long time (not that I don’t do what I can whilst I’m here on Earth, btw). It won’t be the planet that dies out, it’ll be humans and no great loss. Unfortunately, we’ll end up taking too many species with us.

Branleuse · 14/08/2022 17:10

i dont understand how euthanasing her was in her best interests. Surely if people have been repeatedly told to stay away, then the rest is at their own risk

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 14/08/2022 17:11

‘This species has amused itself to death’
(thank you Roger Waters)

stillvicarinatutu · 14/08/2022 17:12

I don't understand why people couldn't respectfully watch her from a distance, she was climbing into boats to sunbathe. Bless her . She could have been a beautiful tourist attraction without the need to get close , or feed her or abuse her . I don't think she should have been euthanised because of peoples stupidity.

I mean, yeah, but the term "hang their heads in shame" sounds like something from the Daily Mail or Mao's cultural revolution.

Insomniac2507 · 14/08/2022 17:22

Never underestimate people's stupidity and selfishness!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 14/08/2022 17:24

I wonder how Wally the Walrus is doing? He was 'based' in West Wales but travelled a bit. I believe a pontoon was built for him as he kept climbing onto boats?

There was quite a bit of news coverage about him last year but it's gone quiet now.
