Neighbour obsessed with what time I get up

Mississipi71 · 07/08/2022 10:30

I overheard my neighbour talking about what time I get up in the day. I have no blinds in my bedroom, just curtains, so she can presume see what time I wake up. I even heard her saying "it is 11.30 am now, what time did she get up 11.15?" I don't go into deep sleeps (side effects of anxiety meds) so I never really feel I have had a full night's sleep. I am early retired, with no kids so what time I get up is down to me. I just read in bed, dont play music or watch tv, until I finally drift off. She also has no idea whether I have reasons for sleeping patterns and I don't need to justify anything to her. Anybody else have CF neighbours like this?

Don’t give it another thought, she obviously has a very boring life.

Gingermoth · 07/08/2022 10:33

In the summer my south-facing curtains don't get opened. Only to air the rooms etc. She would hate me!

Yes, that is what I thought.

Yep, some people just don't have enough to do ... forget about her

😀ooh you would be having sex 24/7. Perhaps I should start making loud, groaning noises during the night 😅

Ignore her. None of her business.

EmmaH2022 · 07/08/2022 10:36

When I was working shifts, a lady who seemed to want to be friends said to me "I can't work out your routine, I never know when you are coming home".

I was quite freaked out.

Same here. I hate hot bedrooms and keep the curtains in my room closed.

CornishTiger · 07/08/2022 10:37

Ignore her but keep your curtains drawn. Freak her out a bit.

Gosh, that IS freaky. Maybe our lives are more saucy!

Just imagine how devoid of a life of her own she must be if watching to see when you open your curtains is a form of entertainment.
When I lived in the UK I had a neighbour like that. I used to get up at 5:45 ish to take my ddog to the woods for a good run with his pals before I went to work. In the winter it would obviously still be dark when I left so I kept the curtains closed. My neighbour took it upon himself to inform DH that I only got up at 8:15 in the winter & that he never saw me walk Ddog .
DH told him to mind his own business, not everyone else's.

StressfulBedtimes · 07/08/2022 10:41

Well she doesn’t seem ‘obsessed’ she’s made one comment
But yes, just ignore her 🤷🏻‍♀️

pinkyredrose · 07/08/2022 10:42

Christ what a nosy bitch. Who is she saying this to, other neighbours?

Mississipi71 · 07/08/2022 10:43

Yes, another neighbour was doing some work for her and she was talking about me. I think he was embarrassed because sound carries with the type of complex I live in.

@StressfulBedtimes it wasnt just one comment; she has alluded to it several times. Once when she talked about best times to water plants. She said you can forget mornings, as you are never up. I took that comment with a pinch of salt. Bit different when you find out they are a gossip.

This would be me. I would leave them closed all day just for badness. I know someone who opens their blinds early in case the neighbours talk about them. Her particular neighbours probably don't give a shiny shit. Different if someone lives alone and no one calls with them then maybe there could be a genuine concern but sounds like your neighbours are just nosy. I'm retired as well and sometimes lie in until 9.30 especially if I have been awake during the night.
Also have no interest what time my neighbours get up at unless I noticed something out of the ordinary and would have a genuine concern

ThePollutedShadesOfPemberley · 07/08/2022 10:54

I would be tempted to smuggle a friend in to make sex noises or haunted house noises when it is obvious you are out. That'll mess with her big time.

PenelopeGarseeya · 07/08/2022 10:55

@Mississipi71 make those groans in the day time to REALLY freak her out 🤣🤣

xJoyfulCalmWisdomx · 07/08/2022 10:56

Does she admit how observant she is?
I'd be embarrassed for her.
I also sit in my drinking coffee, watching netflix, listening to audibles.
Thoughts of this being monitored would annoy me.

TommySaid · 07/08/2022 10:59

I would hate this!!

As PPs said keep your curtains closed all day just to piss her off.

I honestly can’t believe the cheek of it!

If I heard her I'd open my curtains and give her a giant mooney. That'd teach her for looking in.

W00p · 07/08/2022 11:08

Seriously though you need some nets or Venetian blinds or something, what a terrible invasion of privacy.

WaitingForWinter1 · 07/08/2022 11:09

She's a CF. One of my neighbours said she'd seen the back of someone sitting on my settee, but she couldn't work out who it was. I told her it was a lodger (lie)

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 07/08/2022 11:11

I've never quite got my head around how getting up early is considered to be a necessary virtue, and anybody who doesn't is seriously lacking in moral fibre. You'd have to a bit thick to go with that view wouldn't you? Grin
That's aside from the weird obsession she has about your sleep routine, which is quite frankly, really odd.
