just met up with a long time friend (lovely, but utterly away with the fairies) who honestly believes the earth is flat as well as a whole host of other similarly crazy things. It got me thinking what’s the most batshit thing you’ve ever known anyone to think?

That kier starmer would make a good PM.

Omnipotent, benevolent being in a world where children get cancer.

That people can change their sex.

Going by current social media, a proportion of people in the UK think that a child can come back from the dead.

Some people genuinely believe a Kier Starmer-led Labour government would actually be better than the current one.

Just because something is terrible doesn't mean an alternative is necessarily better.

I’ve met a flat-earther too, although I didn’t have the chance to hear her reasoning. She’s a qualified primary school teacher, apparently, although not teaching at the moment.

My NDN is a flat-earther. He likes to hold forth about it, very loudly, in the garden when he's drunk after one of their interminable parties. DH and I take our tea out there and snigger at him from behind the fence <childish>

There was a girl on my PGCE course who thought wolves were mythical creatures. Blew her mind that they were real. She also asked, without a trace of irony, what happened to the stars in the daytime. We told her God collects them up and puts them in a little box.

My husbands friend seriously believed duck billed platypus were not native to Australia. They were Canadian as it was the offspring of a beaver and a duck and beavers come from Canada. We thought he was having a laugh, he was deadly serious and could not be told better.

A Christian friend of mine doesn't believe that dinosaurs existed.
He thinks they were made up, as they are not in the Bible.

Such an emotional subject and not a situation I'd wish on anyone but ultimately I agree with this.

There are people who believe that Trump was put into power because he had some knowledge that would bring down celebrity/powerful people who were in an enormous pedophile ring and on a certain date a dead president would be resurrected, pledge his allegiance to Trump and then Trump would reveal all and be president forever.

I saw it on YouTube ages ago and went down a rabbit hole reading about it but it was ages ago so the details are hazy - I forget which dead president and on what date this is supposed to be happening, but some people were going to meet where the dead president would appear so they could support him and Donald Trump while Trump brings down the enormous pedophile ring.
