What’s the most batshit belief you’ve ever known someone to hold

just met up with a long time friend (lovely, but utterly away with the fairies) who honestly believes the earth is flat as well as a whole host of other similarly crazy things. It got me thinking what’s the most batshit thing you’ve ever known anyone to think?

OP posts:

That the government (or, people commonly known as "they" - Who are "they" exactly?) are poisoning everyone through the water system and are using excessive fluoride to do this.
My my, I'm very surprised this big secret known by such a large institution hasn't managed to get out yet, must be very difficult keeping such a large secret between so many people Hmm

GeorgeCat1 · 04/08/2022 11:21

When I was pregnant, I was really anxious that it would go wrong. Too much googling probably. A friend told me it was because I'd had a trauma in a past life and I needed to forgive my past self or something. She was a scientist in the lab I worked in.

Fuzzy303 · 04/08/2022 11:24

Just remembered another one - an acupuncturist once told me that the reason I have asthma is because my mum wasn't happy when I was born

SuperCamp · 04/08/2022 11:24

I don’t think it is goady.

They are posts that like the Starmer / Tory posts relate to real people with real influence in the real world, rather than the beaver-wolf-Covid-Trump Loons and conspiracy theorists.

And shutting down discussion on opinions by claiming ‘transphobia’ has made the situation worse.

A donkey is a cross between a dog and a monkey

SuperCamp · 04/08/2022 11:25

Sorry, quote got lost. But you know what I am talking about.

AWobABobBob · 04/08/2022 11:26

Can people bore off with the political ones. Yes we get it - you're a labour/conservative supporter!

Mine is that somebody actually believed that thesaurus was pronounced fess-a-rus! He was a middle aged man...

Maireas · 04/08/2022 11:26

There's already been a cure for cancer found, but "Big Pharma" are suppressing it because they make more money from treatment.

StarCourt · 04/08/2022 11:27

@Danikm151 I wonder if that means any person who
Is older than the queen is also a lizard?

StarCourt · 04/08/2022 11:30

I know somebody who doesn't believe the Holocaust ever happened

That kier starmer would make a good PM.

God the Tory Bots are getting boring now aren't they? Any possible thread, shoehorn in a bit of Keir bashing. Almost like Tory HQ are getting a bit worried, isn't it Grin

tanstaafl · 04/08/2022 11:33

Flat earth. There’s a meme with a flat earth and a cat on top.
The message says
If the earth was flat , cats would have knocked everything off by now.

My dental hygienist from the US believed Michelle Obama was a man and the US had their first gay President. It was a joke started by Joan Rivers, had to Google why anyone would think this was real.

I’ve seen that on Facebook. Someone posted a photo where you can ‘definitely’ see Michelle’s ‘penis’. It’s absolutely not the wind/shape wear/clothes bunched up/any other explanation: it’s definitely a penis. They’d even circled it.

Unfortunately, I've come across this too much. It still shocks me.

Some people genuinely believe a Kier Starmer-led Labour government would actually be better than the current one.

Just because something is terrible doesn't mean an alternative is necessarily better.

I prefer a PM that actually posseses compassion, knows how real people live and plays the long game instead of the short 'how will it benefit me first and foremost' game. That is not Liz, Boris or Rishi and more likely to be Kier. He isn't perfect, but if you have to choose something, I know who I wouldn't choose and that is neither of the two campaigning for PM right now. Yes I would like the alternative to be better, but out of the options he is the best one.

Happy botting.

A friend once told teenage me not to wear tampons on aeroplanes as they pop out at high altitude.

No, I did t believe her.

Maireas · 04/08/2022 11:37

I've also met someone that believes in homeopathy. Otherwise quite rational.

Ilkleymoor · 04/08/2022 11:37

Why do people believe the earth is flat? What is the benefit of this belief? How is believing it's a sphere holding the rest of us back? This makes no sense to me.

Putting a fillet of fish in the toaster in a toaster bag sounds a good idea to me!

Apparently some people cook foil wrapped fish in the dishwasher.

The other stuff, not so much.

It makes the toaster, and everything you toast in it subsequently, smell and taste of fish. If you're keen on sardiney crumpets and fishy hot cross buns, crack on!

Wishihadanalgorithm · 04/08/2022 11:38

A primary teacher I knew thought that a moose was a mythical creature.

That asylum seekers bring in foot and mouth disease on their shoes.

I worked with someone who believed this. Please tell me that your one has the initials MM and there aren't more of them with this belief...

Yes looks very desperate. The quality of their posts are immature and snarky and have no substance to them too. Not very convincing to floating voters like me. Makes Tory voters look really thick.

CruCru · 04/08/2022 11:41

My son used to think that bears were imaginary (in fairness he was very small and had never seen one as there aren’t any at London Zoo).

When I had a massage, the therapist said she could tell I was a good person as the angels had told her so and she'd asked them to look after me 😳

applesandpears33 · 04/08/2022 11:42

That someone can change sex. It isn't transphobic to disagree with this, it is a scientific fact.

That if we all put in enough time and effort we can do and become anything we want. No amount of training will ever make me into a ballerina.
