Hi I had surgery on my stomach 3 weeks ago tomorrow all was going well until about 5 days ago when I had a red rash go across my stomach quickly following my yellow/orange/pink sometimes with red leaking

took hours to even speak to a gp and then they gave me two different types of antibiotics which I started on Monday .

i don’t know if it’s infection only or a infected pool of fluid under the skin. The leaking has increased.

no fever, some deep stomach pain on and off , no smell, Shouldn’t it stop leaking now the antibiotics are in my system ?

Did they swab it ?

DesMoulinsRouge · 03/08/2022 21:14

I would say yes. My mum had similar recently and they told her she was right to go.

Greydogs123 · 03/08/2022 21:14

That doesn’t look right at all. I would go to minor injuries if you have one nearby or insist on seeing a dr tomorrow.

QuestionableMouse · 03/08/2022 21:15

I think that needs proper cleaning and maybe some different antibiotics. I'd go.

Paul72 · 03/08/2022 21:16

I'd go to A&E and let a doctor or nurse look at it. If it is all OK you will be reasured and it it needs some treatment they will do what is needed.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 03/08/2022 21:16

Gosh that looks very sore I think a&e would be a good shout.

Brighton5555 · 03/08/2022 21:17

I didn’t see a doctor in person, I did a E consult which they tried to leave me another day before reviewing it so on Monday I spoke to a doctor over the phone who prescribed antibiotics but I don’t know if I’m over worrying or just need to be patient

as soon as I lift the gauze ( as I am cleaning and dressing it twice daily ) it’s running out of me ….

Get to A&E, this needs to be assessed in person by a professional.

KEG05 · 03/08/2022 21:21

That needs seen op. It needs Swabbed and properly dressed. Maybe even a dose or two of iv antibiotics.

neverbeenskiing · 03/08/2022 21:21

Go to A&E.

Leggingslife · 03/08/2022 21:22

Yes go

Beseen22 · 03/08/2022 21:22

Yep OOH GP or A&E.

Afterfire · 03/08/2022 21:23

Defo trip to A and E. Needs new dressing and cleaning and potentially some Iv antibiotics.

DrAddisonForbesMontgomery · 03/08/2022 21:23

Another one saying go to A & E. Hope you are OK Flowers

justforthisnow · 03/08/2022 21:24

If thats what it looks like after 2x daily cleaning and change of dressing, then you definitely need to see a doctor. I second the IV antibiotics suggestion. Hope you feel better soon x

Gaveitall · 03/08/2022 21:25

Go to A&E. Now!
If it takes hold, you could end up with sepsis.
The incision looks infected. A clean incision does not look like that.
Take a book to A&E & anything to help u keep comfy.
It could be a long wait.
I hope it gets cleared up soon for you.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 03/08/2022 21:33

Took my mum to A and E with something like that. They admitted her and gave her Iv antibiotics.

Brighton5555 · 03/08/2022 21:34

Yes I’ve been cleaning it twice a day and changing sterile gauze on top aswell as padding it . I haven’t been moving around much and it’s flooding the gauze . When we lift the dressing off it immediately pools liquid to the top and starts running down .. like orange / yellow colour and I’ve seen pink / blood twice on the dressings .

i thought if I have no temp or fevers or chills then it can’t be that serious . Tomorrow will be day 3 of antibiotics

the ones prescribed are

Doxycycline 100mg x 1 daily
Metronidazole 400mg x 3 daily

one week course

the Gp did see photos also . Just feel a bit put off turning up at A and E as don’t want to time waste

OP posts:
Wearpantsffs · 03/08/2022 21:36

Right, so you’ve asked for advice and now you have it. If I thought you were wasting time I’d tell you. Now go, or stop asking (said with love!!) x

InChocolateWeTrust · 03/08/2022 21:37

I'd go, it's not worth the risk of a serious infection/sepsis.
