Hi I had surgery on my stomach 3 weeks ago tomorrow all was going well until about 5 days ago when I had a red rash go across my stomach quickly following my yellow/orange/pink sometimes with red leaking

took hours to even speak to a gp and then they gave me two different types of antibiotics which I started on Monday .

i don’t know if it’s infection only or a infected pool of fluid under the skin. The leaking has increased.

no fever, some deep stomach pain on and off , no smell, Shouldn’t it stop leaking now the antibiotics are in my system ?

Go on, OP. Enough people have said you aren't wasting time and definitely should be going!
I'm not medically trained in any way, but the yellow parts look the same as a much smaller, not at all serious infected wound I had (and was still prescribed antibiotics). That definitely needs assessed and treated at hospital to stop it getting worse.

Im going to go when my husband is home . It won’t be until 1am but I figure less busy than tomorrow morning

I can’t tell you how relieved I am to hear this!

mcdog · 03/08/2022 22:04

GPs dismissing infections that are so obvious, what is that about???

I'm glad you are going to go OP, but I wouldn't bank on it being quieter...ever at the moment :(

RunningChaos · 03/08/2022 22:07

Can anyone else take you/ look after your kids? I presume that's why you're waiting on DH. Or can DH get home sooner? I don't mean to worry you, but if you were my patient (have worked in surgical for many years) I would want you seen asap. With a wound like that you can change presentation very quickly. Sepsis doesn't wait for anyone.

lunar1 · 03/08/2022 22:08

Definitely worth a hospital visit.

whatfreshheck · 03/08/2022 22:09

If not A&E then out of hours GP or emergency appointment with GP.

sleepyhoglet · 03/08/2022 22:09

If it were me I couldn't be faffed with a and E. Get a nurse/GP appointment same day tomorrow. That's the best pathway

Ontomatopea · 03/08/2022 22:10

Go

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 03/08/2022 22:10

I had that when I had stomach surgery - the stitches burst and all this pus was flowing out. Don't wait til it gets to that stage - go to A&E.

I'm sure you'll be fine and they'll just clean and dress it, but you may need IV antibiotics to clear it up. Are the community nursing team coming in to change and clean the dressings daily? You can self refer to the team if you need to.

CaptainSensiblesRedBeret · 03/08/2022 22:11

Another nurse. The wound looks like it’s dehiscing as well as infected. Definitely needs attention

Babyroobs · 03/08/2022 22:15

I would go to A&E asap. You don't want the wound breaking down. It looks very infected .

Babyroobs · 03/08/2022 22:16

I should add ex Nurse with 30 years experience.

DeathMetalMum · 03/08/2022 22:17

Glad you have decided to go. Generally with antibiotics you expect to see improvements within 48 hours. However the wound looks/sounds like it needs assessing quite urgently and re-dressing.

Ikeameatballs · 03/08/2022 22:18

Please go to A+E. That wound looks infected and as if there is dehiscence.

PeanutButterFalcon · 03/08/2022 22:19

What’s the round bit with the black edge in the second photo? Is it open?

glad you are going to get it checked - the sooner the better

longtompot · 03/08/2022 22:19

I had something similar after an ankle op. I went to the gp who told me to go straight to a&e, she phoned ahead. I had an infection on the metalwork which I had to have removed and had a week of iv antibiotics.

Voerendaal · 03/08/2022 22:21

ICU nurse with 35 years experience- you absolutely must go. The wound is infected and the scar is breaking down. IV antibiotics are required.

Beepbeepenergy · 03/08/2022 22:28

How’s everything going at hospital OP… x

Thinkingblonde · 03/08/2022 22:31

Yes, A&E, It’s infected, my daughter had fusion surgery on her ankle, one of the stitches wouldn’t heal, it. It actually wasn’t as bad as yours but it had yellow pus, leaking fluid. She sent a photo of it to the hospital, as it was during lockdown, her consultant phoned her to say a prescription of antibiotics was waiting for her at the chemist. She had to send photos of the wound everyday to let him see how it was healing.

Hapoydayz · 03/08/2022 22:31

Hope you are at A&E. sounds like the GP has failed you.

Bubblesandsqueak1 · 03/08/2022 22:34

It looks infected for a start antibiotics take longer to work on a wound can you get a emergency appointment with your local nurse if not pop to a walk in centre tomorrow

uncomfortablydumb53 · 03/08/2022 22:35

Pp have said what I was going to but another voice saying you must go even at 1am when DH is home
After 3 weeks it should look dry and healing
Looks like it's breaking down

justforthisnow · 03/08/2022 22:37

Brighton5555 · 03/08/2022 21:58

Im going to go when my husband is home . It won’t be until 1am but I figure less busy than tomorrow morning

Can't you go now? Taxi? 2.5 hrs away is a long time.

raisinghell · 03/08/2022 22:37

It's really easy to read Op's posts people - she's already said she's going!
Good luck Op.

closingloop · 03/08/2022 22:40

Phone 111 and they might give you an Urgent Care or OOH GP appointment time to save a long wait at a+e - that's how it works here anyway.
