Hi I had surgery on my stomach 3 weeks ago tomorrow all was going well until about 5 days ago when I had a red rash go across my stomach quickly following my yellow/orange/pink sometimes with red leaking

took hours to even speak to a gp and then they gave me two different types of antibiotics which I started on Monday .

i don’t know if it’s infection only or a infected pool of fluid under the skin. The leaking has increased.

no fever, some deep stomach pain on and off , no smell, Shouldn’t it stop leaking now the antibiotics are in my system ?

A&E nurse here.
Go to A&E

The person who knows said to go so you must go to A&E

NrlySp · 03/08/2022 21:42

A&E is a service. As is minor injuries. You pay for their service through your taxes and are entitled to use it. You’ve had an operation and you are not healing as expected. Go and get some medical help. If this was your child/relative I’m sure you would already be there.

tigerbread20 · 03/08/2022 21:43

Another nurse. A & E for you, now please!

Roady1 · 03/08/2022 21:46

Yes go. I had a bad infection that days of antibiotics from the GP wouldn't shift. I too didn't want to waste A&Es time so held off going but did in the end. By the time I got there I felt drunk is the only way to describe it and was immediately admitted on the ward for IV antibiotics. You're not wasting their time.

Dessicator · 03/08/2022 21:46

Definately get it looked at. The wound seems to be breaking down

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 03/08/2022 21:49

Of course you need to go and get it sorted.

And in future-anyone reading this who has surgery of any kind-if your wound starts to look dodgy/oozing, please call your surgeons secretary/hospital you were operated at-do not go to your GP and get antibiotics without your surgeon knowing about it. Follow your post op instructions. DH is an orthopaedic surgeon and goes mad at GP’s providing antibiotics to his post op patients without his knowledge-they can mask really deep infection which could have a massive impact on the results of your surgery.

AlternativelyWired · 03/08/2022 21:50

Another (former) nurse saying go. That's manky as (proper medical term🤣) and I'd say IV antibiotics are needed. Hope it's healing soon it looks very soreFlowers

Brighton5555 · 03/08/2022 21:50

Thisnis now. This was last cleaned and all changed at 5.30. This is the second day of red / blood/ pinkish with the yellow

absolutely this

starfishmummy · 03/08/2022 21:51

Stop posting and get it seen.

Teder · 03/08/2022 21:52

Absolutely. Go go go.
I went to A&E for similar. They swabbed it, cleaned and dressed the wound, gave a dose of IV antibiotics and sent me home with much stronger antibiotics and painkillers. It did the trick and I didn’t even have to be admitted.

Ohdofuckofdear · 03/08/2022 21:52

As soon as I saw the pictures I said(out loud)OMG yes go to the hospital now!

I am the sort of person that would try and patch my head half hanging of with a plaster rather than go to the hospital, but you you seriously need to go and get that seen to now, that looks infected bless you!

Relaxing2 · 03/08/2022 21:52

Go get seen and keep us updated op

ScarlettnotOHara · 03/08/2022 21:52

Yes, AE !!

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 03/08/2022 21:52

Are you on your way to A&E yet OP?

Roady1 · 03/08/2022 21:53

Stop taking pictures and go.

Okaaaay · 03/08/2022 21:53

Please go to A&E - post surgery wound infections are common, poorly picked up by GPs (especially over the phone) and dangerous. That wound and leakage isn’t right at all after three weeks. Go first thing in the morning.

theclangersarecoming · 03/08/2022 21:54

Yes OMG off to A&E with you. Looks infected & could be cellulitis or potential sepsis so don’t hang about.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 03/08/2022 21:55

Just go get yourself looked at woman!! Honestly it terrifies me how people take such risks with their health!! If you take a turn for the worse you will be more of a drain on the NHS than a preventative trip to a&e.

justasking111 · 03/08/2022 21:55

That's nasty, hope you're on your way to hospital now @Brighton5555

Jibberstanley · 03/08/2022 21:56

You really do need to get medically trained eyes on that.

Infections in wounds can escalate quickly and that one is definitely at the needs looking at in person stage.

The absence of fever or other feelings of being unwell does not mean it isn’t infected.

I’ve been to out of hours for wounds in a less bad state than that. Sometimes it shouldn’t wait till morning.

If you do choose to stay home, keep yourself well rested, and drink plenty of water. Fighting infection at that level is exhausting. And then in the morning ask for an urgent appointment with practice nursing team for a wound assessment and swab.

Xpologog · 03/08/2022 21:57

As the A&E nurse says upthread, go to A&E.
( They are more likely to swab it, I think, and you’d get a specific antibiotic rather than a broad spectrum one.)

I had similar after my hysterectomy. Was getting the staples removed at the surgery and the nurse took one look and sent me straight to gynae at the hospital. So please go.

i found it’s better to use sanitary towels over the wound.

it took about 6 weeks of antibiotics to clear up. I started having baths with salt and lavender essential oil and that really helped.

best wishes
