Hi I had surgery on my stomach 3 weeks ago tomorrow all was going well until about 5 days ago when I had a red rash go across my stomach quickly following my yellow/orange/pink sometimes with red leaking

took hours to even speak to a gp and then they gave me two different types of antibiotics which I started on Monday .

i don’t know if it’s infection only or a infected pool of fluid under the skin. The leaking has increased.

no fever, some deep stomach pain on and off , no smell, Shouldn’t it stop leaking now the antibiotics are in my system ?

OP posts:

It looks grim, yes. Is it life threatening. No. Stay home & visit a clinic or GP as soon as you can.

Ffs, medical professionals have already commented saying go and she's gone. What's the matter with you!?

watermelonlipbalm · 04/08/2022 08:15

How are you feeling IP?
You absolutely the right thing to go that looks SO uncomfortable :(

Haggisfish3 · 04/08/2022 08:15

Oooft. Poor you op. Hope you’ve been seen.

ThelmaDinkley · 04/08/2022 08:20

save the kitty are you medical? Drs and nurses have advised to seek urgent care so your advice is dangerous. As for not life threatening how do you know it’s bloody not? I think risk of sepsis is life threatening.

Embarras83 · 04/08/2022 08:25

What a bizarre thing to say @savethatkitty

please read PP who are medics to say it must be seen and also note the OP has already gone to A&E.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/08/2022 08:49

Hope you've been seen and are now more comfortable

Nuisancepenguin · 04/08/2022 08:49

Hope you’re doing ok OP. You did the right thing going to A&E, your wound looks nasty. Take care and get well soon.

Infections can potentially get very serious very quickly. Exactly how do you know it is not life threatening?

QuebecBagnet · 04/08/2022 08:50

without prompt treatment it absolutely could be life threatening.

Sepsis is very much life threatening. What a foolish thing to say!

Bollocks. It was a comment like this that put me off going to A and E with chest pain - delayed treatment for 12 hours until DH practically carried me to the car.
Heart attack, a minor one but I was told by hospital staff that waiting could have left me with long term problems. Hospital staff also said to always go and LET THEM DECIDE IF ITS URGENT.

Hope you are ok OP.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/08/2022 09:07

Glad you're being seen and hope all is well .

Beware AIBU, people, beware AIBU.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 04/08/2022 09:17

Personally I'd have rung 111. They'll look at the photo too. OP said she felt OK and had no immediate signs of sepsis. Unless it's a dire emergency that requires 999 I always call 111 first not mumsnet!!! I send people to hospital with sepsis most days from my clinic and know what to look for as it's part of my job. Seriously let the professionals decide if you need to go in not the Internet. There is huge pressure on a@e right now. MIU is another alternative, very little in the way of queues and will give you antibiotics.

KeyWorker · 04/08/2022 09:18

It looks just like my c-section scar about 19 days post surgery. I had and infection and needed IV then oral antibiotics. Go to A&E to have it checked.

Benjispruce4 · 04/08/2022 09:20

No you go and get checked. You’re not time wasting. DH had oozing like that after leg surgery. He was taken back in for IV antibiotics. Good luck.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 04/08/2022 09:31

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

That needs to be looked at in person not diagnosed over the phone.
It's a potentially life threatening infection if it develops into sepsis, so in that case she should have gone to a&e.

Haggisfish3 · 04/08/2022 09:33

Rtwt-op is in a and e now.

This. Posters like this on mn should be instantly banned. I got called pathetic and a drama queen on here one night for asking for opinions on whether I should go to a and e. I had no serious or major symptoms, wasn’t in major pain, but I just knew something had gone wrong and I felt a horrible sense of doom. I felt like I was going to die. It was the next afternoon when my oh put his foot down and demanded I go to a and e. Turned out I had a massive ovarian cyst which had ruptured, I found out I was pregnant at the same time. I had to have surgery and spent a week in hospital with a drain in my abdomen sucking all the blood out from the internal bleeding. Me and my baby would have died if I’d have listened to the dickheads on here.

Hmmm. I also think this should serve as a cautionary tale that this IS just a free Internet forum full of strangers with no idea that they are who they say they are or got any medical qualifications and their advice should never be relied upon

GnomeDePlume · 04/08/2022 09:48

I think some posters are of the opinion that a quick squirt of zoflora is all that is needed!

Thankfully there was also sensible advice which OP heeded.

Boopeedoop · 04/08/2022 09:50

Some on here would have you believe nobody should dare visit A&E without first contacting an undertaker and booking a funeral.
