To feel angry at Tory voters?

Dottodo · 02/08/2022 00:52

DF has always voted Tory. He’s very anti immigration and we will never see each other’s POV.
DHs friends are all Tory voters and hate being with them as they are all racist, xenophobic & misogynistic.
Other Tory voters I know through work or extended family members are also xenophobic and casually racist.
I’ve spoken to friends about this and they agree that the Tory voters they personally know are also racist and xenophobic.
Why is this?
Me and DH lived abroad and as we've lived as ‘foreigners’, we don’t share their views.

They are the reason this country is in a mess, much less immigration.

They think they are a cut above the rest. They live in their protective bubbles, shaming anyone who happens to be different to them.

They really are an embarrassment to humanity.

Shaming anybody who happens to be different to them..

How ironic on a thread entitled to be angry at Tory Voters 🤔

I think this is a great approach if you want to lose. Don’t broadcast anything but rely on people finding statements on your website or twitter

I don't think Labour have much choice about doing things this way given the Tories' penchant for stealing co-opting Labour policy and claiming it was all their idea.

Mississipi71 · 06/08/2022 11:03

The Tories are stealing Labour's ideas now.... keep them coming 😅

Ha yes Labour haven’t once mentioned windfall tax was their idea first and no one else has either.

Of course they get media attention but Labour are woeful at realising their own issues with communicating, esp this opposition

Blair was better than Cons back then so it can be done - they really need to stop blaming the media though and think about why.

Anyway this only matters if you want Labour to win, it doesn’t bother me if they stick to websites and Twitter feeds

@MarshaBradyo It's largely irrelevant what he says now- there isn't an imminent election and the press is mainly right wing. Come election time then legally he gets a fair crack at the whip - at least on TV - where would you suggest he gets the message across apart from Guardian, mirror , maybe the Times etc? Because the Nail, sun express sure as hell won't cover him fairly and TV dominated it seems by Tory's . Legally the opposition is meant to get as much time- I'm not seeing that apart from maybe channel 4 and hey ho what a suprise the gvt want to sell it off .

MarshaBradyo · 06/08/2022 11:14

Crikey the media are more for click bait these days so something like partygate will dominate. Or Sunak’s wife’s wealth. It’s not actually helping those people - Johnson out and Sunak damaged from it.

They have different problems - which cancel each other out a bit

The media can hammer Cons in the polls if they go for it

Starmer is holding back on many things for GE so I would hope he clarifies then

Theres one I hope he’ll u turn on but sounds he won’t

Crikeyalmighty · 06/08/2022 11:18

I think many people forget well over half the population do not support the Tory's, and it's only by virtue of our antiquated voting system they are in and the fact that in elections there is a split on centre and centre left voting and there hasn't been a split on the right to any such degree. - certainly not in the last couple of elections since the Tory's turned into ukip

Crikeyalmighty · 06/08/2022 11:22

@MarshaBradyo I agree totally about clickbait though!! Although I do agree about the partygate issue and Sunaks wife being highlighted- both took the piss massively and the gvt should be setting an example - I would have said exactly the same if labour were in power

AndreaC74 · 06/08/2022 11:23

The media is shocking tbh, the situation with US China relations is extremely worrying... papers (and to some extent TV Radio) obsessed with Sunak/Truss.

If people think Ukraine has led to a cost of living crisis, it will be a gentle breeze compared to the hurricane an invasion of Taiwan will bring us all.

Even with domestic inflation & energy costs, how Truss stands and what she wears is considered more important.

AndreaC74 · 06/08/2022 11:34

Blair was better than Cons back then so it can be done - they really need to stop blaming the media though and think about why

Blair had Murdoch on side, made a huge difference to his message, anyone who thinks this purely down to Labour and their "message" is naïve.

Labour are still saying they want a windfall tax but its only on Sky or Ch4 that you'll hear it voiced.

All the main papers are Tory and whilst readership is down, everyone sees the headlines each time they queue to play the lottery, which is why, say the Express will have a headline that is total bollox but then a much more reasonable explanation on page 2.

The media can hammer Cons in the polls if they go for it

That isn't going to happen, the ownership/control of the media ensures this.

MarshaBradyo · 06/08/2022 11:41

It has happened - look at Johnson and Sunak - the media can get rid of people or damage leadership

also it’s not just the media it’s what we click on and talk about on SM

They react to figures so if we really are interested in Taiwan click on that rather than Truss’s outfit or Sunak’s wife

I don’t really do print / online press. Radio can still be v good

AndreaC74 · 06/08/2022 11:49

Sure the media often turns on a specific Tory, what they don't do is turn on the Tory party.

What do you think i do? read the Mail?

Of course i know that there are many good sources of news but our printed Tory media isn't one of them.

MarshaBradyo · 06/08/2022 11:56

I’ll leave the accusation that everyone reads the Mail to Labour supporters

It doesn’t matter if it’s an individual - of course not - partygate tanked the polls and it affects the whole party

Going for one person is just more readable and people relate emotionally to a story aimed at Johnson or Sunak etc

Two words - windfall tax.

Boybandfacedfannyfart · 06/08/2022 13:58

Tbf, Blair probably blew the labour party’s chances of getting Murdoch on side again when he played hide the sausage with Wendy.
