Do you say thank you…

When someone has cooked you a meal?

Parents staying with us and we went to get fresh fish from the fish market then to the shop. We made a salad, bread etc with it, made a big bbq.
Afterwards we cleaned up and no one said thank you for the meal.
Just thinking about it, would you say thank you?
It’s just my natural instinct to say ‘That was lovely, thank you’ or something along those lines…
Are my parents quite rude?

Yeah they're rude.

abovedecknotbelow · 23/07/2022 16:15

They're really rude

ShirleyPhallus · 23/07/2022 16:15

Yes I always say thank you if someone’s cooked my dinner. especially if you’re at someone else’s house.

I also do it in my own home, But then you never say thank you to someone loading the dishwasher or taking out the bins do you, which are both household chores

HerRoyalHappiness · 23/07/2022 16:15

Yeah that's rude to not thank you. I'd always thank someone for feeding me. My mums my carer and as part of that she preps and cooks meals for me and my kids. I always thank her

hesttreat · 23/07/2022 16:16

Yep always

Aswad · 23/07/2022 16:17

Do you thank them for bringing you into this world?

JudithandHolofernesHead · 23/07/2022 16:18

My parents always say thank you after having dinner at our house.

I wouldn't stress over it. Maybe it was an oversight. If they do it again, then mention it.

Blossomtoes · 23/07/2022 16:18

Always. My bloke’s the cook n this house and I thank him for every meal he cooks.

whereamu · 23/07/2022 16:18

Yes always multiple times!
When I am served, after I've eaten and when I leave I say it again!
My teenager thanks me after every meal too.
We are a grateful family!
I would find that really rude.

Justlovedogs · 23/07/2022 16:18

Yep, always. Whether it's me or DH that cooks, we always show appreciation.

Ontomatopea · 23/07/2022 16:19

Always say thank you. If you especially enjoyed something say so.

Kanaloa · 23/07/2022 16:19

I don’t know if I would wait till everything was cleared away then say ‘thank you for the meal’ as I think it would be a bit awkward. I would probably say ‘this is lovely, thanks’ as it was given to me. Did they thank you when you served them? Or just take the food?

Coastalcreeksider · 23/07/2022 16:20

My dad always said thank you after a meal. Even if it was something I didn't think was that great, he'd always say "thank you, Coastal that was lovely".

Takes minimum effort to say but makes it all worthwhile to the cook - me!😄

Chasingclouds100 · 23/07/2022 16:20

I always say thank you - that was lovely! or along those lines even if I didn’t particularly like the meal

EthicalNonMahogany · 23/07/2022 16:20

@Aswad you don't have to thank parents for bringing you into the world. You didn't ask to be born and it was their duty to care for you and teach you what to do as an adult. Thanking them for taking care of you as a child is good - but not to the extent that they are then absolved from thanking you for any kind action you do, forever.

In my house everyone thanks everyone foe everything always.

Planetearthisscrewed · 23/07/2022 16:22

Always say thank you and also thank my kids for emptying the dishwasher or doing the bins. I cannot imagine not thanking someone profusely for cooking me a meal as it happens so infrequently

roarfeckingroarr · 23/07/2022 16:25

Always

Topseyt123 · 23/07/2022 16:25

I would always say thank you. They are very rude.

Discovereads · 23/07/2022 16:25

No not for one meal of many while staying with relatives. No thanks needed or wanted. Also a bit cringy and redundant. In the course of a 3 day stay that’s having to say “ooooh thank you that was a lovely piece of toast/fish/whatever” nine blinking times.

Yes if going to a dinner party/special event type meal at someone else’s house.

Discovereads · 23/07/2022 16:27

In my house everyone thanks everyone foe everything always.

Are you quite serious? I🤯I

SunnyDayToday1 · 23/07/2022 16:27

Yes always say thank you! My husband even says thank you for eating the meal after he cooks it LOL

KittyMcKitty · 23/07/2022 16:28

Of course you say thank you! I do the majority of the cooking in the house and my children (17 and 19) and husband always say thank you for supper - similarly if someone else cooks we thank them. Basically we always thank whoever has cooked the meal. Why would you not?

TheChosenTwo · 23/07/2022 16:28

I always say thank you as does everyone in my house whoever is cooking. We usually say thank you to dh as he is the main cook and then someone will pipe up “oh and I made the salad” and then we all thank that person, I sometimes say that I brought the condiments out and everyone thanks me too 😂 it’s a bit of a joke and silly towards the end but appreciation and gratitude are extremely important to us.

Blossomtoes · 23/07/2022 16:28
