To hate the big garden pool trend, and my neighbour who has one

We live in a terrace so very close proximity to each other. The neighbour next door has a big pool crammed into the backyard. She’s been practically living in the garden all week. She has the one toddler, a boy, who seems to be quite naughty.

All I hear all day through my open windows is happy screaming, angry screaming, crying, lots of splashing, “wooooo”, “one two three go!” “High five!”. Must have heard the child’s name about 100 times today. They finally went inside at about 7, but not before I heard her say they’ll come back out tomorrow. I’m cursing that pool. Before she got it they never went in the garden. They’ve lived next door 2 years and I never heard a peep from them. I don’t think the pool is even safe. It’s quite deep and she’s set up a slide going onto it. And then there’s the environmental impact of filling it up everyday.

Why are they refilling it every day?

fighoney · 16/07/2022 22:19

It'll probably be raining in a few weeks

pointythings · 16/07/2022 22:19

With a pool like that you would normally have a filter installation, so no refilling it every day.

Given how hot it has been and will be again YABU to resent them being in the pool all day. Unless you're jealous.

sunglassesonthetable · 16/07/2022 22:21

Don't worry it'll be raining soon.

WinterMusings · 16/07/2022 22:21

Of course they're not filling it up everyday.

it's an above ground pool in the garden, how in gods name is it 'to deep' for a slide? The kid will only go down it if they want to.

You could ASK them to keep the shouting down, but if they want a pool it's their right to have one.

Classica · 16/07/2022 22:25

You haven't heard a peep out of them in two years so I'd just grin and bear it. You sound irritated that they're finally using their garden!

Living in a terraced house means accepting that sometimes there'll be noise.

Hope the 'naughty' boy has a delightful day in the pool tomorrow.

custardbear · 16/07/2022 22:26

Let them enjoy the nice weather and chill

Bringbackwinter · 16/07/2022 22:26

I don’t know if they have a filter I’ve haven’t paid that much attention. I just assumed they were refilled every day.

Oh bore off. A toddler having fun in his own pool in his own garden. It’ll be raining again before we know it.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 16/07/2022 22:29

Why would it need refilling every day? Just pop a cover over it and it's fine for ages, especially if you use filters or chlorine tablets.

JaniceBattersby · 16/07/2022 22:30

How dare they have a paddle in their own back garden

MissBattleaxe · 16/07/2022 22:30

He's young, there's a heatwave, I'm afraid it's just part of life, even if it annoys you.

GCHeretic · 16/07/2022 22:30

Bringbackwinter · 16/07/2022 22:26

I don’t know if they have a filter I’ve haven’t paid that much attention. I just assumed they were refilled every day.

What a strange thing to assume.

If you aren’t happy with neighbours enjoying the good weather have you thought of spending the summer away somewhere else?

itsgettingweird · 16/07/2022 22:32

If my neighbour had a huge pool in their garden - right now I'd be making good friends with them 🤣🤣

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 16/07/2022 22:32

Had the dreaded letter from SE Water today... DONT use hosepipes. Ok it's not a hosepipe ban but still...

If you're in SEWater region... you should not be using water unnecessarily.
So please don't fill up your chavvy sex ponds!
( teeheehee and ducks)

Thedogscollar · 16/07/2022 22:33

Such miserable people on here. A toddler having fun in his garden.
You haven't heard a peep out of them in two years and now you have your moaning about it. Get a life.

RagingWoke · 16/07/2022 22:33

They're probably not filling every day. I'm assuming one of the intex or similar pools that have been reduced recently?

You can't really be annoyed if you haven't heard anything for 2 years and they're going in so early. Noise, life noise like kids playing, until 9/10pm is reasonable in general and something you accept living near other people. If you want complete silence a terrace house isn't the place to live.

Londonderry34 · 16/07/2022 22:34

You need to move to splendid isolation. I love hearing children having fun and making noise..........let them live!!

FunDragon · 16/07/2022 22:35

Are we talking about a large paddling pool?

FunDragon · 16/07/2022 22:44

I think you need have a read of some of the threads about bad neighbours on here OP.

People drinking and smoking weed in their gardens, having hot tub parties with loud music until 4am, barking dogs for hours on end, revving motorbike engines at 5am…

You’re complaining because your neighbours, who haven’t disturbed you once in two whole years, have dared to make noise in their garden during daylight hours for the past week.

Seriou · 16/07/2022 22:45

Passive-aggressive loud music is your friend here.

Or just let them enjoy their garden, I think you’ve had it all your own way tbh.

Bringbackwinter · 16/07/2022 22:46

I live in a terrace because it’s all I can afford.
I don’t think it will stop when the weather gets colder because she’s bought the slide and a sandpit too. I don’t know how she’s getting in and out her back gate. It’s rammed with things out there now.
All very strange, because like I said, they never went out there! I used to see her taking him out with his bike or toy shopping trolley everyday, to the park I assume.

Me too! I’d be knocking with Prosecco and a sun hat.

PurpleMarie · 16/07/2022 22:49

You’re quite the grump.

Chickychoccyegg · 16/07/2022 22:52

Well obviously she's not going to keep the pool up when the weathers rubbish again, a slide and sandpit are completely acceptable toys to have in a children's back garden, you're being very unreasonable.
