To hate the big garden pool trend, and my neighbour who has one

We live in a terrace so very close proximity to each other. The neighbour next door has a big pool crammed into the backyard. She’s been practically living in the garden all week. She has the one toddler, a boy, who seems to be quite naughty.

All I hear all day through my open windows is happy screaming, angry screaming, crying, lots of splashing, “wooooo”, “one two three go!” “High five!”. Must have heard the child’s name about 100 times today. They finally went inside at about 7, but not before I heard her say they’ll come back out tomorrow. I’m cursing that pool. Before she got it they never went in the garden. They’ve lived next door 2 years and I never heard a peep from them. I don’t think the pool is even safe. It’s quite deep and she’s set up a slide going onto it. And then there’s the environmental impact of filling it up everyday.

Another seasonal po-face. Oh goody......

pointythings · 16/07/2022 23:00

Maybe the things are there now because her DC is of an age to enjoy them? Honestly, you are coming across like the Grinch here, OP.

SunflowerGardens · 16/07/2022 23:04

Log it with 101 😅

eldora · 16/07/2022 23:06

All very strange, because like I said, they never went out there! I used to see her taking him out with his bike or toy shopping trolley everyday, to the park I assume.

Not strange at all. They’ve only been there 2 years! It took us longer to get a shed!

DottyLittleRainbow · 16/07/2022 23:07

This has to be a joke thread? How can there possibly be annoyance at a child enjoying a garden - during daylight - in the summer - in a heatwave?

I live in a terrace because it’s all I can afford.
I don’t think it will stop when the weather gets colder because she’s bought the slide and a sandpit too. I don’t know how she’s getting in and out her back gate. It’s rammed with things out there now.

Buy some earplugs then or move to some far flung Scottish corner

Escapedescalope · 16/07/2022 23:08

I've just bought an 8 foot one. Just for me, an adult 😬. I'm going to sit in it, drink beer and read a book. I'll refrain from wooing.

Toucan123 · 16/07/2022 23:09

It's not "strange" that your neighbour's child is starting to play in the garden more now that they're a toddler and not a baby. Babies don't generally use the type of garden equipment you're talking about so there wouldn't have been much point in it being there two years ago would there? You're the "strange" one, complaining about a family making the most of the summer and playing in their garden UNTIL 7PM 😱

If my neighbour had a huge pool in their garden - right now I'd be making good friends with them 🤣🤣

😁 I would be doing the same

Nothappyatwork · 16/07/2022 23:12

Honestly you’ve got no idea you’re born we live in a row of houses where next-door but to one a full on rave with decks and grown men singing along and Woop Woop Ing with the occasional whistle for added fun. I mean a genuine whistle like people used to have a raves. After 10 to 15 minutes of this occurring the lady who lives next door to them comes out and quite literally turned the air blue with her language.
my kids sits on the trampoline watching the drama unfold, I love it 🤣

Hollowtree3 · 16/07/2022 23:16

Neighbours…. If you don’t like them then you have to have the cash to live far enough away from them in town, or maybe have just quite ones, or you need to move to an isolated area. It is simple and obvious.

TuftyMarmoset · 16/07/2022 23:16

YABVU. You can’t beat em so join em - I am childless and have just bought a paddling pool for myself 😎

HaveringWavering · 16/07/2022 23:20

Intrigued what this toddler is doing that you can see closely enough to be able to conclude he is “quite naughty”. Unless by “quite naughty” you mean “not completely silent at all times”?

I’m guessing you don’t have kids?

PersonaNonGarter · 16/07/2022 23:23

This is a reverse, surely?

Bringbackwinter · 16/07/2022 23:31

I had 2 sons, both very quiet.
He must be naughty, she tells him off every 2 minutes.

More likely bad parenting than a naughty toddler.

PickAChew · 16/07/2022 23:37

Do they have a bar in their garden, too?

HundredAcreW00d · 16/07/2022 23:37

She sounds like a good mum from what you've said. Takes him to the park or out with his trolley everyday, bought him a pool and a sandpit. Doesnt just leave him to it outside, actually plays with him and engages him. Also she corrects him when he misbehaves.

Did your quiet children never have a pool or a sandpit?

This is a wind up. 😬

mathanxiety · 16/07/2022 23:50

A pool has to be a certain depth for a slide to be safe.

YABVU.

Buy noise canceling headphones or move to a remote spot if you don't approve of a family enjoying their garden pool in a heatwave and the sound of perfectly normal interactions with a toddler in the water.

mathanxiety · 16/07/2022 23:52

Heavens to Betsy!!

A slide and a sandpit! For a toddler! In his own garden!

I feel an attack of the vapours coming on.

Greensleeves · 16/07/2022 23:52

Oh give me strength, another misanthropic sourpuss who flinches at the sound of a child's voice Hmm

It's summer. You live in a residential street. Other people live there, too. Some of them have children. Children play outside. You might hear them sometimes.

FFS.

Dita73 · 16/07/2022 23:56

Good luck to them

bloodyplanes · 17/07/2022 00:03

I have a family a few doors down who have one. I can tell its school finishing time just by the sudden screaming, shouting and general level of noise going up each day. They also like to have family and friends round to use it every nice weekend. This consists of at least 10 kids screaming and shouting, plus parents being loud and absolutely nowhere to park in the street because of all their visitors. I used to love to hear children playing in the nice weather, now it sets my teeth on edge.

Onceuponaheartache · 17/07/2022 00:04

Seriously get over yourself.

You'd hate living next door to me. I live in a terrace, don't use my garden much when it's cold but make the most in this weather. I have had 4 kids round all playing in the pool and on the trampoline today.

Glad my neighbours come round and join in and aren't miserable sods like you
