..to hate this heat?

I don't know how I'm going to manage another week of this. It's too much. I'm stuck indoors on the cool side of my house and the temperature inside is still 30C. Anyone else hate the heat?

Tooooo hot for me (perimenopause also not helping)

But people with windows open during day - shut them! Only open late evening when temp is right down. Leave open for as long as poss then shut by 9am. Have all curtains closed all day til temp goes down. Makes a massive difference.

I've tried everything and personally a through draft seems to be the best thing to keep the house cooler. We open the back door and front window and it creates a little air current in all rooms.

GraceandMolly · 10/07/2022 18:50

I love it! Our house is a bit too warm, but I still love the heat and I love not wearing a jumper and just enjoy sunshine and paddling pool with kids.

MargotMoon · 10/07/2022 18:50

@Roussette Cheers! *clinks glass of rosé

ALongHardWinter · 10/07/2022 18:53

Can't stand it. I can't get my head around the fact that quite a lot of people get excited about temperatures of 30 degrees plus. For me,22 degrees is perfect.

hurtyb · 10/07/2022 18:54

I don't mind hear but I hate heat in London, it's stifling

We do this with the curtains and it really does help keep cool but doesn’t stop me moaning that we’re living in some sort of weird gloom!! I actually hate the heat but love the light.

CoffeeWithCheese · 10/07/2022 19:03

I've never been good in heat, despite this house being on the cooler front in summers - it's fucking awful. We have portable A/C units in the bedrooms which makes it a bit more bearable in terms of sleeping.

Mulhollandmagoo · 10/07/2022 19:03

Yeah, we've hidden inside with a fan and ice pops all day, yesterday was lovely, still warm but not unbearable.

We are a winter family 🤣 I love a really bright really cold day!

TheLostNights · 10/07/2022 19:03

No real relief from this until a week Wednesday where it's showing as mid twenties which is still too hot but nothing like this pure hell we have right now.

@Loics it's horrendous! I have 3 fans on me at work and I'm still sweating buckets. Hate having to figure out what to wear! I can't just wear floaty dresses etc because chub rub is terrible so I have to wear cycling shorts underneath 😩

I do work in a school which is one saving Grace so I do finish in a few weeks but omg this last couple of weeks I am going to get actual heat stroke :(

@legaltigger ypu need chub rub shorts. They are in the shape wear section at M&S and are fantastic - light material, so not sweaty.

Every summer it's been getting hotter and hotter , last year was the same too. Last decade or so
Apart from 76 , the summers of my youth were mostly rain and cooler temperatures !
Everyone went abroad !

I am in the south though , so that makes a difference too :(

This is weird, I 44 and summers as a kid were great here. Remember 1990 boiling and going to outdoor swimming pool everyday and getting a tan every year , same as other summers. Last year was pretty basic sunmer bar a couple of weeks. 1988 when my family came from abroad and we were roasting walling around windsor lol. Honestly, I don't like it as much as I used to though.

stuntbubbles · 10/07/2022 19:05

I wilt in the heat and always have. Non-stop headaches and nausea in this type of weather. My garden is just a brown crisp. 15 weeks pregnant in the mix isn’t helping. Going to sleep downstairs on the sofa tonight as it’s cooler 🥵

tigger1001 · 10/07/2022 19:06

I really struggle in the heat.

Our house is currently 26 degrees which is about 8 degrees warmer than we have it in the winter. Just so uncomfortable and it drains my energy.

daffy22 · 10/07/2022 19:07

Does anyone else swell up in this heat? - hands and feet especially. My feet are so painful with it.
I didn't used to suffer from it but have done ever since I had preeclampsia 5 years ago Confused

CoffeeWithCheese · 10/07/2022 19:08

The kids have been at Scout camp all weekend doing water activities in the forest so they've avoided the worst of it all so far thankfully (and come back impressively un-burnt), and their school is a bloody old Victorian chunk of a building so it stays fairly cool inside.

VinegarRinse · 10/07/2022 19:09

You lot need to move out of your modern houses into damp old stone houses like mine

My mil lives in a very old stone house in Cornwall. We're going down there next week. I'm taking cardigans and jumpers. Regardless of the temperature outside, it's always fucking freezing indoors!! And in the winter, those thick old stones absorb and eat up and dissipate any heat from the fire or radiators. And if the fire flames get too high, she chucks water on it so the chimney doesn't set on fire! I've often been on the verge of grabbing the bloody water jug out of her hands and screaming "You're killing the warm! Just get the chimney swept"

Of course, I don't. But there's still time.

legaltigger · 10/07/2022 19:12

@meatyryvita they sound great but I don't think they do maternity ones! I found some others but they were about £8-10 a pair and I can't afford that for wearing every day! 😩

Threeboysandadog · 10/07/2022 19:16

My dsd has a plug in air con thing and normally I would decamp over there for the day with wine ice cream. Unfortunately I have Covid so am stuck here and finding it pretty hot and miserable. At least I get to keep the 🍨

Johnnysgirl · 10/07/2022 19:16

Also hate how you can’t complain because YOU MUST BE HAPPY AF IF THE SUN IS OUT EVERY SINGLE DAY 🤬
Yes, that infuriates me almost as much as the bloody heat. Being made to feel like a Moaning Myrtle who'll be to blame when the weather finally (make it soon!) fucks off.

Agreed. A brisk walk and you're all warmed up.

Roussette · 10/07/2022 18:33

A figure of speech as I'm sure you realised

Basically I was being polite. Instead of saying...can't we have a few days of heat in a whiley year without people whinging sounded rather rude so I went for the polite version

Why open a thread that clearly says someone hates the heat?

We all moan about stuff. 🤷🏻‍♀️

lollipoprainbow · 10/07/2022 19:22

Just had a glorious afternoon at my dd's friends birthday pool party, now we are home at our tiny hot flat with no garden ☹️

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2022 19:22

Why open a thread that clearly says someone hates the heat?

Because OP is asking AIBU, and people are replying yes or no.

WisteriaLodge · 10/07/2022 19:26

The forecast for next Sunday is saying it's going to hit 42C down South...the humidity will be horrific, I'm hoping it's wrong...
