I'm just wondering what other people's opinions of this are and have name changed for this. An acquaintance of mine on Facebook has just posted a picture of a brand new expensive SUV declaring she has been waiting 'years for this'. As far as I know, she doesn't work, doesn't own her own home, yet her partner has a small garage. AIBU to wonder, where I'm going wrong in life? I have a full time well paid job, yet this is beyond reach. I am a homeowner so perhaps that's the difference? I'm assuming renters just know that they are never going to get accepted for a mortgage, just need to do splurge and therefore know that car finance is a lot easier to get than a mortgage?? Or are they just not sensible with money, and that's the reason they are in that situation?

Have my first ever 🍪

TigerRag · 08/07/2022 19:01

Could be a motability car?

IrisM22 · 08/07/2022 19:03

Sounds like basic jealousy.

scorpiogirly · 08/07/2022 19:08

It baffles me too when people can afford such luxuries without a job.

Harridance · 08/07/2022 19:10

Yeah it's a bit crass, not something I'd boast about in the current climate...or ever really

Walesscales · 08/07/2022 19:11

You had me until you started bashing renters. Snob much? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hope that person keeps posting photos of their SUV and you keep feeling shit about your life.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 08/07/2022 19:12

I wouldn't care tbh, don't let it bother you. You'll never know their personal circumstances and why they have been able to get their new car. It's not worth taking up headspace, focus on your life instead.

Tayegete · 08/07/2022 19:12

People spend their money in different things. I used to work with a woman who was paid the same as me and constantly moaned about not being able to buy a house like I just had. However she drove a brand new Audi TT!

Here's a ladder to help you get over yourself.

I can’t see how it’s “boasting” to post about how you’ve finally got something nice you’ve wanted for many years.

As a general rule, if you have ”friends” on Facebook for whom you don’t feel genuine joy and happiness when they post about their achievements and things which they’re proud of, you aren’t their friend and they shouldn’t be on your Facebook.

paddingtonstares · 08/07/2022 19:16

People prioritise different things. I'd love to travel but it's not happening unless I cut out every other bit of enjoyment out of my life until I can afford it. and not use gas or electric come next winter

K8Shrop · 08/07/2022 19:17

Christ, I just rolled my eyes so hard I saw my brain.

ShahRukhKhan · 08/07/2022 19:28

People are being too harsh here OP. I understand wondering how people afford stuff. And so what if you do feel a bit jealous? That's normal too.

Mojoj · 08/07/2022 19:30

Don't let the green eyed monster get you!!

InFiveMins · 08/07/2022 19:35

It's very crass and makes me feel truly embarrassed for them.

ImFuminHun · 08/07/2022 19:37

Inheritance?

Massive loan?

Saved for years? (Given what she said?)

Either way, bloody good for her.

lancsgirl85 · 08/07/2022 19:39

You're assuming wrong.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 08/07/2022 19:40

I was with you until you started having a go at renters.

I've spent over £126,000 renting over 9 years - that's why I can't afford to buy a property. I'd much rather own a home like you but despite being sensible with money it's just not possible.

It baffles me that anyone gives anything like this any head space whatsoever

lancsgirl85 · 08/07/2022 19:42

also "renters" made me 🙄

As if we are all one homogeneous group with the same life experiences and reasons for renting. 😂

SmashingEgg · 08/07/2022 19:44

I don't know which is worse, your screaming snobbery or your green eyed monster.
Whichever it is, you need to get a life.

TyrianBannister · 08/07/2022 19:54

Maybe she inherited money from her long lost aunt?

Maybe she has savings you don’t know about?

Maybe it’s a gift?

Maybe she’s up to her eyeballs in debt from buying consumer goods?

Who knows?

Anyway, good luck to her.
