I'm just wondering what other people's opinions of this are and have name changed for this. An acquaintance of mine on Facebook has just posted a picture of a brand new expensive SUV declaring she has been waiting 'years for this'. As far as I know, she doesn't work, doesn't own her own home, yet her partner has a small garage. AIBU to wonder, where I'm going wrong in life? I have a full time well paid job, yet this is beyond reach. I am a homeowner so perhaps that's the difference? I'm assuming renters just know that they are never going to get accepted for a mortgage, just need to do splurge and therefore know that car finance is a lot easier to get than a mortgage?? Or are they just not sensible with money, and that's the reason they are in that situation?

That's right, OP. Renters are in said predicament because they splurge money on SUVs. Why don't you ask her. Or mind your own business...

Ohitsspicy, do you need a large suv if you live in a city centre?

Yes, I’m disabled so a large SUV fits my needs perfectly.

Never understand attitudes like this .
None of your business how she afforded it.
Should people stop posting about their lives just because someone somewhere might be jealous/feel annoyed whatever?!
You realise that's what FB is for, right? Sharing updates, interacting with people?!
Step away from it if it makes you feel bad.
You don't sound like much of a friend either.

Good luck to her, if she's happy , what's the big deal? It may be a gift, on HP/PCP or through saving, who cares?

There’s been a glut of these threads on MN lately. ‘But whyyyy? Howwwww? Someone else has got something I want; why haven’t I got that?!?’

A lot of people would be a lot happier if they concentrated on their own lives rather than worrying about what other people have got and how they can afford it. How do you all know so much about other people’s finances anyway?

Absolutely.

I don't know about you other renters but I spend all my money on 70 inch televisions, weekly Cuprinol spray tans, 6 inch nail extensions and holidays with the girls in Shagamuff drinking porn-star martinis and Prosecco. Who wants a boring mortgage anyway?

😂

I can’t see how it’s “boasting” to post about how you’ve finally got something nice you’ve wanted for many years.

As a general rule, if you have ”friends” on Facebook for whom you don’t feel genuine joy and happiness when they post about their achievements and things which they’re proud of, you aren’t their friend and they shouldn’t be on your Facebook.

Well said

OP you are getting a hard time here.

My job as an accountant has taught me well that outside appearances very rarely tally up to reality. The most well off people often live in a modest house owned outright with a modest car but have significant savings etc, whereas the ones that boast of holidays/flash cars etc often have massive mortgages, massive car loans or lease their cars and have large items on credit.

Obviously not in every case but often outside appearances are just that.

I agree with this. A friend of mine looks like she has everything. Brand new cars always in holiday but they have remortgaged several times now and are In lots of debt. What you see isn't always real. Modest houses and cars are usually the people that are better off not In loads of debt Good luck to her though she's obviously please with her new car however she got it !

Here's a ladder to help you get over yourself.

😂😂👏

Frazzledmummy123 · 09/07/2022 23:06

Yes because renters have so much more disposable income than homeowners, often paying a good sum more in rent a month than people do in mortgage payments🙄. Just because someone rents doesn't mean they can't buy something expensive, or should be scrutinised why they buy that and not a house.

Vikinga · 09/07/2022 23:08

Why do you care? I'm not a car person but some people are.

pedropony76 · 09/07/2022 23:09
